  1. My definition is anything over 3 on my regular lake. I talked to a guy that I consider to be way better than me and he's only caught two over 4lbs in 20 years on the lake. It's all relative.
  2. Every year is different, but here in KY the fall bite usually holds up through mid to late November for LM.
  3. Yes...I'm guilty. Or was I should say. It was becoming paralysis by analysis. I keep it pretty simple now. Lately I keep a jig rod out and another fancy jig with two willow blades (otherwise known as a spinnerbait) out.....that's it. My numbers and size have gone up so I'm going with it. The approach I use with these two lures use varies from slow rolling deep structure to pitching to shallow stumps/laydowns depending on time of day/weather. Cutting down my options has made it more fun and that's why I fish.
  4. 1/2 oz Arky...black\blue with matching Uncle Josh Pork
  5. Between work, kids, sports, etc. I fish when I can. My preference is early morning but last the weekend I was fishing a main point mid afternoon that was getting hammered by waves from rec boats and jet skis. Add in some wind gusts of 20mph and you can imagine my pain. I couldn't really fish plastics so I slow rolled a heavy spinnerbait and caught my biggest of the year and another one broke me off. Point being...you might have to adjust but anytime on the water can be good.
  6. Jig, then spinnerbait.
  7. 1/2 oz arky jig with Uncle Josh #11. Thread a 1 inch piece of worm (I use my old discarded ones) up on the hook shank first.. then slide on your #11. This keeps your pork from sliding up onto your hook point and adds some color and buoyancy.
  8. Mccoy is the only copolymer I use now. Way better than Yozuri Hybrid. I use the CBF but I'm sure the green is just as good.
  9. There is a lot of mention of structure on this site and it's usually generic in nature...nothing specific. The definition of structure is any change in bottom contour, so that basically includes everything except flats. But we know bass move up on flats to feed and sometimes relate to cover on those flats and that's where I often catch the bigger fish. Flats close to deeper water. Of course, in the lake that I fish, most people (including me) consider anything over 3 lbs to be big. A lot of good discussion here. Let's keep it going.
  10. The best advice I've seen on this site in a long time.
  11. I'm convinced that if a Bass can be caught it can be done with a jig and/or spinnerbait. So why do I have worms, diving cranks, lipless cranks, spoons, etc? I guess I like to support the lure companies.
  12. Accent makes a good one.
  13. Only need one. 1/2 oz arky style ..black/blue with a net bait baby paca (color of your choice)
  14. I like this answer. The only thing I'd add is sometimes the best "retrieve" is to let it fall next to vertical cover (standing timber/bridge pilings, etc.)
  15. Long sleeve Field & Stream Smart cool SPF 50 shirt. Wide hat and cargo pants. I put SPF 50 lotion on the back of my hands. I literally stay cooler with this stuff than shorts and t-shirts in the hot sun.
  16. Sunday I was pitching to standing timber in 15-20 feet. Wednesday, I fished a smaller, shallower lake and wore them out by bringing a spinner bait back through the weeds on the bank. Like said above...every day is different.
  17. So what I'm hearing is that I haven't found the magical tree loaded with 3 lbers....
  18. Interesting, I've known of fish caught the next day, but I figured they would take the day off after getting yanked around and pulled out of the water.
  19. Sunday I was out and found a decent pattern flipping standing timber. On one tree, I caught one around 3.5, which is actually really good for me on this lake. I continued on, working the outer edge of the trees catching smaller fish. About an hour later, I doubled back to the same tree and pitched to the exact same spot. I hung into the twin of the 3.5 from before. It got off at the boat. Now I'm wondering. ..was it the same fish? Will they bite that soon...it was an hour tops..
  20. Got it...thanks again everybody.
  21. There is a Cabelas about 10 mins from my work. I'm there.. what size/brand swim jig do you use? All I have are 1/2 Oz black/blue skirted arkies..lol. The one I found in it was probably 3/16 Oz white head.
