Thanks for the suggestions and budget is $150-200 for a rod. Sounds like I need to go longer to 7 ft but not too many believers in a braid to leader setup. If that's the case then Mono or Floro for shad raps?

The silver and black shad rap number 7-9 is a huge confidence bait for me in several different lakes that I fish. I am looking to find the best setup for this lure and other light weight cranks. I've been going with a Berkely Series One 6'6 medium rod and Shimiano stradic 3000 with 8-10lb floro or Pline cxx hybrid line. I'm looking for recommendations for a better setup. I read that some use braid to floro and it helped with casting distance.

I've switched back to almost all copolymer, P-Line Cxx 8lb moss green to be exact. Floro is useful in some areas, but it's quirky and inconsistent.

Lake Norman is a ritzy lake for Wells Fargo bankers and Nascar owners. Gigantic houses and lots of pleasure boaters who don't always respect fisherman. Saying that, it's a big lake with lots of coves. I've caught spots and largemouths 2-3lbs and some good numbers days, but it can be a tough lake. Finesse fishing of dropshot, senkos, and shakeyheads seemed to be more productive than moving baits.

This is a good analogy. So my brand new Fuego 7:3:1 is not ideal for crankbaits, which is kind of disappointing but I fish enough other presentations to still use it plenty.

Why can't you fish a crankbait on 7:3:1 reel and just slow down your retrieve? I suppose deep divers might be the exception.

I have no intentions of making my own tungsten, only trying to save money on a purchase.

How did it fail?

I really like this line so far, and have spooled it on several rods. I use it for cranking, finesse, jerkbaits, spinnerbaits, basically everything except topwater in which I use braid. I'm wondering if I should look to other lines or if I should just keep using this. Seems to work pretty good so far.

Is this Pline Fluorocarbon coated line the same thing as actual fluorocarbon? What is the best use for this line?
