Thanks smalljaw67. I spoke with a person on here over the phone who explain that to me (I am not sure if they want to be mentioned). I have a person that is working on my Cad drawing as we speak now. I want to try my bait during the spawn here in Va, which is due to start in about 3 weeks time. Then I will make my last tweaks before semi-mass producing. I want to make sure it's as versatile as it can be. Then I will work on my marketing plan. 1st create a web-page. Then I'm going to visiting and pitching my bait at all club tournaments bear me ( There is a bunch here, at different levels. I will speak to tackle shops and hand deliver them. I will also try to meet some heavily sponsored elite pro's when they are in town. Final step will be( God willing) setting up at local fishing flea markets, Big Expo in Richmond and finally Icast in 2014. LOOKS LIKE IM GOING TO BE BUSY FOR AWHILE! I once again want to thank everyone so much. A lot of people are giving me a lot to think about. I truely, from the bottom of my heart appreciate every bit of advice. This website is amazing and I would have never guessed that so many people would offer their valuable time to try to help me (a person you don't know). Just take a piece of 3/4 pressure treated plywood cut 3 15 inch squares put them in a row and hinge them together be creative and mount a toilet seat. When not in use it will fold semi flat. When in use make the u shape out of it sit the toilet seat on top and handle your business. Never done it just a idea! Jay-

You can use them to nose hook a fluke or drop shots or even boob tube rigs. Jay-

I have fished bull shoals before and it was amazing. Believe it or not swim jigs(jig with swimbait trailer), tubes (jig and tubes in natural colors) and if you find some discolored water bright chatterbaits were amazing. I am not sure where you normally fish but for me the fish where a lot deeper than I am use to here in Va. Focus on points start far back and work your way up close. keepers can be caught on skakyheads and drop shots under boat docks. The more boats the better. Let me know how you do... Jay-

Cadman, Thanks again for all your tips and advice! I am just gathering everyone’s tips and eventually will (once I have enough information) have to make my own decision on the path I take. I am just waiting to see if someone on here has done this and sold and idea. I want to get a rough idea on what to expect in case I get a offer for this bait/baits. I have no clue right now what someone might sell their creations for. It would be in any companies best interest to give me as little as I would take for a idea. So let’s say I created the first chatterbait, how much could that be worth? Just trying to get a low end number for a okay regular bait and a high end for a game changer bait. I also want to thank everyone that has given me there opinions. It's not every day that you come across people willing to offer advise especially living so close to a big city like DC. Jay-

The A-Rig is kind of a different deal all together. The umbrella rig for stripers was created before the one for LM bass so in theory it was kind of a modification. I have some baits that have or do, and are fished in a way like no other baits on the market. I have spent days looking for anything similar to no avail. So, It will be obvious if someone copies it. The chatterbait is a great example though there are a million and one of those. I hope to sell one of my designs/baits to a company and then with the money generated from that possible creating my own line of baits. Basically I am trying to turn a dream of doing what I love (anything fishing) into a reality. Thanks again for your help. Jay-

I was wondering like dollar amount hitting it big is a relative term. So I was wondering if I sell the bait to a company is 10k hitting it big or is 1million hitting it big. Just trying to get a idea on how much these types of creations can go for. Jay-

Cadman that is some good advice I thought that getting a patent would be the first step. I have only told 2 or 3 people I trust about this bait. I guess my next step would be the patent office. When i was about 14 years old I seen a bass fisherman and was amazed by the amount of tackle he had. That man explain that different times and conditions the fish prefer different gear. I said wow it must have cost you 5000 dollars for all that stuff how did you do it. He laughed and said every time your parents take you to wal-mart pick up something anything no matter how little and as time goes on you will see how fast your collection of tackle will grow. Well I have not been able to stop taking his advice it’s been almost 20 years now and I still can’t go into a store that sells fishing stuff without picking up something. Grrrr what a mean ole fisherman Jay-

It would cost a good amount of money to make hundreds of baits. I would rather sell a couple baits first to a company. Then when I collect from that it should make me enough money to get started making other baits to sell myself. I would probably have to get a patient so that a bigger company don't copy my bait and sell it as their own without consent.

That is a very interesting theory WRB. I agree with some of it. I have caught bigger bass on slack protected water in the river. I also have seen the Bass in a reservoir really turn on when some current was present. It seems like fish in the river are very quick to strike where lake and reservoir fish are a little more finicky. Reservoir/lake fish though finicky seem to fight harder in my opinion than river fish, unless your river fish is caught in heavy current. Has anyone else notice this to be true?

I have been thinking about this for some time now! I have some baits that I have made that are awesome. Some of them are 2 or 3 plastic baits fused together to form a new bait. Others are hard baits carved out of wood that are like nothing yet created. Others are modification to existing baits. My question is how do I go about selling these baits to big name companies? I don't have the funds to produce them and sell them myself. How much could I expect to sell the bait for? Do I need to get a patent before selling the idea? I'm scared to post my ideas because I don't want someone stealing my idea before I can sell it. Has anyone gone through the process and sold any baits to any companies? ANY FEED BACK WOULD BE HELPFUL. JAY-

Flukes they work awesome like a bait fish feeding in the bottom. You can also rip it of the bottom and swim it back with a pumping motion. Best rig ever! But ahh don't want the other guys in my club to figure this one out Jay

The best way I found to fishing it is on a shaky head. I target cover with it and once I clear the cover i drop it dead to the bottom. After I kill it I pump it several times back to the boat, but only little pumps maybe like 6 inch pumps. I have caught fish on every part of that retrieve. When it comes by the cover sometimes they hit it when I kill it sometimes they hit it and when I pump it back to the boat they hit it. I make my own flukes and can control how soft or hard I want it and let me tell you I have caughten some hogs with this technique.
