Potomac River Snakehead Fishing
I hooked one that I swear was over 20lbs, hooked not landed. In my experience when they slowly go back down that means they didn't see you and can be caught. Usually when I see them sink straight back down, almost tail first they will surface again in the same spot about 15 minutes later. A black and blue jig worked like a shakyhead or buzzing a rattle trap near the bottom will get you hooked up. Jay

Northern Virginia (Nova) Fishing Discussion/reports
High tide going out is by far the best time to target them. It pushes them up in the vegetation that at other tides is not accessible. Jay

They like slow or fast top water early. Then a chatterbait in water shallow water 2 feet or less or rattle trap in water 3 feet or deeper. Look for water a little more protected from tides and vegetation on land that extends into water at least 6" deep. Smaller creeks that feed into pohick are also ideal.. Jay

Drop Shotting Dirty Water
Ike said it would work on one of his videos. Maybe keeping the bait closer to the weight would work well. As the weight bumps the bottom it will attract the bass to the bait. Jay

Northern Virginia (Nova) Fishing Discussion/reports
S freud, If you go down route one towards stafford from woodbridge between Quantico and 610 on the left there is a mom and pop grocery/ tackle shop. Never been in it but I know they sell some stuff. The tourney this past Sunday was very very tough! Especially since I had a bad cold and thought about not even entering. We would have weighed 13 something but was going to win with that so I didn't even weight. Wasnt feeling well enough to stick around. Most of our fish came off plastic creature baits and tubes on isolated cover along bluff walls. 2 fish came off of a C-Rigs on channel ledges near turtle. Did manage to catch a 3 or 4 pound catfish on a C-Rig. Thought I had bubba, lol. Oh well we still have 2 or 3 tourneys left before the classic. Jay-

Made My First Two Batches Of Plastics - Pics Inside
I have several that I sealed with finger nail polish. It works very well I just have to touch them up every once in awhile. I make two part molds and some of the baits I have poured looked store bought, its just like Kevin said the more you do the better you will get. Keep up the good work buddy! Jay

Hello!!! New To Nova!
Welcome, if you are more of a lake fisherman you should try Occoquan Reservoir, and Burke lake. Lake Anna too if you dont mind driving a hour+ away. If you are interested you can check out the tournaments that are conducted bi-monthly on the Occoquan Reservoir (fountainhead park). Jay

Potomac River Snakehead Fishing
I like what you added to this thread. The blue & white spinner is very interesting. I have notice how ever something with a tight vibration like a rattle trap or chatterbait gets them to come from a few yards away. That said I have not tried a blue and white chattrbait and will definitely have to give that a try. The snakeheads here can be extremely moody at times also. Its almost hit or miss with their aggression. I have seen them may of times swim away from a bait no matter how slow of a presentation. Other times I have had them crush a frog or chatterbait with ill intentions and even fly a few feet out of water. There is still tons to learn about these fish but two things are certain 1) They are fun to catch. 2) "They taste grrrrreat" (Tony the Tiger)! Jay-

Any Advice For Fishing The Occoquan Reservoir This Weekend?
Well as I was surfing the BR pages I notice a BR big fish tournament. I was thinking we could start a Occoquan Reservoir version of this. It's simple.. Each week or every two we post our biggest fish caught on the Reservoir. You have to take a picture with your fish on a tape measure or some other measuring device ie. golden ruler, yard stick ect. Nothing to win nothing to lose, all for the fun of a challenge. What do you say? Everyone in? :respect-059: Jay-

Biggest Fish On Spinning Gear
Nice carp. I snagged one on a ultralite Shakespeare rod with 6 lbs test. It was like 10 lbs and snagged near the tail. Took me over 20 minutes to land it. Good times. Jay

Snakehead Roundup
Birds of prey are going to be a big problem for the spread of the northern Snakehead. The Biologist here at Fort Belvoir has told me of 3 incidents where Snakeheads have fallen from the sky. The Northern Snakehead is a strong fish and the ospreys that grab them cannot hang on to them, they wiggle out of there talons. There are a lot of places where snakeheads are not yet introduced to but could get to with the help of a osprey like the Occoquan Res. If a Snakehead gets picked up below the d**n and dropped at the top of the dam into the resevoir, waterways all the way into central Va are going to be effected. These fish are out of control and although I like catching them, I also like having the opportunity to be able to catch other types of fish. I agree with some of the people that say they will eventually take over a whole waterway given enough time. Jay

Deepest Caught Bass
38 Feet with a Jig, I popped it up pretty hard when I felt it hit the bottom. Worked very well. I have also caught some pretty deep on a spoon in 40+ fow but, I was pumping it back to the boat so I am not sure how deep my bait was when I was catching fish. Jay
