  1. There are few sports in this world that will still call it a go under these conditions. We should all be so proud! LOL That being said I sure can't wait for the next tournament. It should feel a little more like a spring tournament should, warm, a nice cool breeze, and some nice prespawn bass! Best wishes to all and tightlines always, J-
  2. WoW I guess you can relate. Not sure how many people can truly relate. There are a lot of fair weather fishermen but few truly diehard fishermen. I think it's great to push your limits and comfort zone once in awhile. It helps ya truly appreciate life and what you have. J
  3. Sorry should be titled "Diehard fishermen". Wow yesterday was the toughest, coldest, longest, wettest, and just flat out most miserable tournament ever. I saw the weather the night before and boy was the weather man off. It started off 40-50 degrees with a little drizzle. I grabbed my deer hunting pants and jacket and my boots and I felt okay at first. The temp fell fast, the drizzle turned into heavy rain, then sleet, then ice, and then snow, then all of the above mixed. The winds started off mild then picked up significantly and hit gust up to 40 mph. I knew my club had some dedicated fisherman but didn't realize how dedicated. Would you believe 50+ people showed up. Water temp started about 44-46 degrees and ended up about 42-44 degrees. At about noon I discovered my waterproof hunting gear was not 100% waterproof. I was drenched all the way through. If it wasn't for a little pocket we found somewhat out of the wind I don't think I would have made it. The whole time my partner and I keep reciting Ike's famous line " never give-up, never give-up". My partner and I caught only two fish for 7lbs. I am not sure if I have ever been so proud of such a small sack in my life. It took everything in us to stay out there and keep fishing. The truth is our hands were so cold we probably didn't feel some of those light cold water bites. I think just about half the people caught fish and weighed-in. I am pretty sure no one caught a limit. In my honest opinion if you stayed out and completed the tournament you are a winner in my book and a true diehard fisherman. What is the worst tourney you have been a part of, and how does it compare? Sorry for typos hard to proof read on my phone. J-
  4. Depends, no really depends!!!! J/k when the pressure is on, you really don't think about going to the restroom. I mean you get tight as a tick. J
  5. He may be a great guy and all but still don't believe his name for snakeheads will ever catch on. Lol J-
  6. Frog legs might catch fisherman on poppers more than fish. If you added legs to a popper the legs would act as a rudder and prevent the infamous walk the dog side to side action in the bait. It may not stop it completely but it would impede on the poppers action. It doesn't effect it as much on bigger rounder frog/mouse type baits, but does make a difference on narrow poppers. Play with the idea some and you will see what I am talking about. J-
  7. Sometimes you can get away with fishing the same old baits but try fishing your bait differently than everyone else. For example if most people are fishing a spinnerbaits fast and covering a lot of water quickly, try slow rolling it, or a yoyo presentation. If swimbaits are the ticket try fishing it on a Carolina rig, or weightless. If it's bouncing a jig on the bottom is what everyone is doing try a swim jig ECT. Little changes can make a huge difference. It will work to catch the fish everyone else are missing and showing the fish something that looks natural in a way that haven't seen before. For what it's worth. J-
  8. You really want to match the hatch as much as possible. Although it's a top water bait certain colors trigger more bites. Top water baits do occasionally roll on their sides, go under water and even slight dive head first. That flash of color sometimes is enough to make fatty girl commit. You will know this to be true when you see several huge bass following your top water bait but not commit to inhaling it. My little two cent advice hope ir helps! J-
  9. No doubt a beautiful place. When are you going to invite some of your BR buddies on a trip? LOL Thanks for the tip Tuckahoe.. Mental note keep these pics away from my wife. j
  10. I have heard them called a lot of things spotted channa is a first though. I am with you traveler I dont think it will catch on either. I don’t think people around where I live have any issues eating them they are tasty. I actually catch them on my lunch break (none this year so far) and give them away. It started with one or two people taking them from me. Now there is a waiting list LOL. I have shown a lot of people that work with me how to catch them for their selves. Thanks for the update Traveler stay safe and tightlines. J
  11. Nice I will be trying the float and fly next time I see that going on

  13. Quanjig, What was the water temp out there? Hope it's in the 50's. J
  14. When I make my plaster of Paris mold I seal them with cheap nail polish. You can buy it for 99 cents at most places, it works great! Just remember to add vent holes when making two part molds. J-
  15. There are many many many small swimbaits that IMHO look more like a bait fish than a spybait. Most of them can be rigged with any weight you choice. If fishing a spybait slow is the trick then any swim bait with the correct weight can be fished equally as slow or even slower since they are weedless and can even be dragged on the bottom. I feel like fishermen try to by the latest and greatest thing just because it's new! Kind of like women and the newest trending clothes/shoes. No matter how funny or stupid it looks just to say they have it. Just remember the old helicopter lure. You saw it on TV you saw someone catch a fish with it and had to have one. Truth be told under the right conditions you can catch a bass or any fish with a hook tied to a stick. To each their own but as for me it's a no go.
  16. Youtube has some awesome videos on how to make one out of a standard cooler and that's what most people use in the club. J-
  17. Find a boat and a partner then go to fountainhead bass club .com. All the info you need should be posted there. J
  18. Yeah no doubt Jim and I should be a good team. We are both spring and fall fisherman. We are going to really have to put in work in the dog days of summer but I think we can figure it out. It has taken me four years of fishing the club but I think we have a chance of turning a couple of heads this year. Without the right motor and electronics we are really at a huge disadvantage. I swear it takes away anywhere from 1-2 hours of fishing time from us each tournament. But we love the challenge and thats why we all do it. We will see how consistant I can be now that I have a consistant partner this year. Jim is awesome and I think we are going to get-r-done. J-
  19. Come on Quanjig give me a shout out for fifth place that was hard work and a tough tourney... J/K J

  21. I am not sold on it at all. I think a swimbait will out perform it all day long. It really doesn't do much, and I find it hard to believe the two props are going to make a fish eat it better than a ordinary sinking jerkbait. Just my two cents for all it's worth. J-
  22. I have used that technique on crappy but never tried it on bass. I will have to give it a try next winter or next time I face those condition. I have to figure out where to get those flies. Thanks for the tips. J
  23. Its price to high. People on Craigslist forever think they are going to get more for their old stuff! Jay
