This Weather Is Killing Me

Major League Fishing Istokpoga
I was just wondering if anyone knew why Brent Ehrler doesn't compete in the Elite series? I mean I know he is killing the FLW and has made 2 million in earnings, you would think someone who wants to be the best would compete with the best; But hey I guess thats why people say don't fix something that isn't broken. It would be very very hard to walk away from that kind of money from fishing.

Major League Fishing Istokpoga
So far I've watched every episode! I love the watching extended cast, and seem them go through their thought processes and how the format in general puts them under pressure the entire day.

Do Any Of You Put You're Other Hobbies On The Backburner For Fishing ?
To me it is kind of the opposite, but I think that this summer will change a little bit. I used to race Dirt Bikes and go riding all the time but last summer a wrist/ankle injury kept me out about a month and I fished like 4 times a week and started to really love it! We are getting our first boat next weekend so I think it may be more even this year!

How Many Times Have You Taken A Hook To The Body
I have never gotten one really bad, but this weekend I had a small treble go in the tip of my finger go in to the bend. My buddy snagged a cat with a flicker shad and the pliers were on the other side of the pond. So me being an idiot just tries to grab the hook and get it out but the cat rolled and in it went.

What Are Your Favorite Setups (Rod&reel) And For What?
My favorite rod is my 7'3 Veritas MH with a 7:1:1 Abu Pro Max reel with 17# fluorocarbon. I love it because of its diverse uses but I mostly throw plastics and jigs on it. When I first got it, I threw cranks, spinner baits, more less any thing I could tie on! Haha

Best Day I've Ever Had
So yesterday was my best day of bass fishing I have ever had in my life. Before I get this story going I will say that this was on a farm pond about 10 acres in size. It was in a pasture and was made about 5 years ago for a sure source of water for the cattle. Anyway I had never fished here before and I had no clue what to expect. It was the hottest day of the year so far, 70 degrees but it was an overcast day and winds gusting in the 20's. So when we arrive, I thought to throw a spinnerbait with gold colorado blades and fish it kind of slow. The third cast I caught a 3#er. Having no clue what to expect I was already happy about the day because it was my first fish of the year and I didn't think we were going to catch a thing. So about 15 minutes go by without another bite and I figured we should go try the wind blown side after not getting another bite. This may be the best idea I have ever had. We get to the other side and my friend and I double up within 2 casts of getting set up. Then in about 3 more casts another big fish hits it like its never seen it before in its life, and another and another. I have never caught so many quality fish in my life and I caught my personal best of about 6 and half pounds! I'm not kidding when I say each of us caught about 15-20 fish and not ONE was below the 2 1/2# mark. It was getting to the point where a 3 1/2# "was just another fish". I feel like this is never going to happen again and some might not believe me but wow, even right now its 1:40 am when I am writing this and I'm still shaking thinking about it. Now, I was one of those guys that thinks that pond fishing was considered almost cheating or you shouldn't show off a private pond fish, but man until you get the opportunity to fish something like that, it's just something that is just hard to explain. I will post a couple of pictures from today but we took so many that my phone died part way through. But now I ask what was your best day of Fishing! Also sorry for the long post I was just too excited.

Awesome Deal... To Good To Be True?
I have gotten almost this exact same response on a boat once before, hopefully you've checked back here and didn't spend any money! I typed the word by word email into google and it came up many scam alerts. I gave them a piece of my mind and moved on!

Buying First Boat, The Small Things?
So we have been looking off and on for the past year but just getting serious and what I have found out about this process is that is hard to fulfill your boat wants and needs within a certain budget that you will be happy with. This all said everyone says they look for quite a while for the one and I know one will show up sometime. Thanks for all the help!

Buying First Boat, The Small Things?
The 482 is actually rated for a 150 though. I never really thought of it to be that big of deal but this is why i started this thread to get the info. Although most of the lakes around here are smaller than 1000 acres but bigger is better i suppose.

Thoughts On The Major League Fishing Format?
In the middle of watching the free episode right now. I am already spending a few bucks on a couple more episodes. Shaw is cracking me up. I like all the commentary by the anglers, you can really get inside the head of an expert; which is really cool in my mind!

Buying First Boat, The Small Things?
The input has been great already! A little more info the Nitro has a 115 optimax and is a dual console boat with 2 fish finders and a 54lbs trolling motor. It's also a single axle trailer and I have an 05 F-150 to pull it, which will do it easy. Nothing is set in stone and we are looking every where for that right deal. We were interested in a Bass Tracker pro team 175 but knowing it has a 16 gallon livewell compared to the Nitro's 34 gallon doesn't seam right. That's why I was asking about the little things, something like that would make me upset during a tournament lol.

Buying First Boat, The Small Things?
Somewhere around 15k or lower? We are going to look at an 06 Nitro 482 within the upcoming week. I know that will surpass my expectations and is pretty nice for a first boat. I would rather spend the money now and get a quality boat that we can have for a more than a few years than end up wanting something else next year. Thanks for the help in advance!

Buying First Boat, The Small Things?
Within the next couple of weeks we will be buying our first boat. I have always fished off my buddy's boat and it's now time to buy our own. We are going used and I have an idea of what I want but I was just looking for a little inside info on the little things. Such as, from experience what would you of changed in your first boat? Or what do you have to have now that you didn't even think about on your first few purchases? This boat is going to get used quite a bit and in tournaments this year. I just don't want to be fishing a month later and think that I should of gotten something else because the boat is missing something and would like to own this for the next few years. But never the less I will be happy with something that floats and I can call it my own.

New Iowa Guy
Fishing and football... I already like it here but when football season comes around Nebraska is going to be dangerous watch out. Returning a lot of talent and the new coaches are feeling more comfortable after their first seasons there. GBR!

New Iowa Guy
Hey everyone! I just found this website yesterday while trying to get a few tips before the spring starts. I am from central Iowa and at school at Iowa State. Within the past 2 years I have really gotten into Bass fishing, and really love the sport. I have always just fished small creeks and ponds around and as soon as i got out on the lake, I found out that I love the Challenge and the feeling of out smarting the fish. I will be entering a few tournaments this summer with a buddy and just trying to learn all I can. See ya around!
