Swimbait Question
This has prob been discussed before but.... i fish a small lake with 0 shad population and obviously no trout around here. i know there are 10lb+ bass in the lake, i have caught plenty or 6+ pound fish.i'm not sure what swimbait to throw, the lake is loaded with catfish and i was thinking about trying a 6 or 8 inch catfish swimbait. any suggestions? if i use the typical big bass baits such as a jig or bigger cranks i cant keep the 1-3 lbers off my line long enough to fish for a trophy, don't get me wrong, i love catching the 1-5 pound fish all day but i want to go after some more of the big girls this spring. the lake is pretty deep for a small lake mostly 15-25 feet deep, with one small cove closer to 10 and the east bank that is 4-10ft. water clarity in the spring is normally 3-5 feet. Any advice appreciated!

X Box Fishing
I have owned about every game system that has come out since the super nintendo,(haven't bought an xbox one or ps4 yet though) and have played every fishing game i have found and i will be honest, to a fisherman all of the games are horrible, i do not believe a fisherman or woman has helped design any of them and all of the rapala games are just one big advertisement only letting you use their lures. so for your daughter i say buy an xbox one and let her play the games she wants and maybe( we can only hope) a decent fishing game will come out in the future. if you buy a 360 you are stuck with all of the horrible old fishing games with no hope of new ones.

Fish Finder In A Kayak
Just put a Piranhamaxx 153 on my yak. I used Duct Seal and formed a layer on a flat spot inside the hull and stuck my transducer to it, and then wrapped the edges of the extra duct seal around it to hold it in place. A few people have had complaints about a not-so-clear image but i had no problems, went and tested it out for several hours, works great.

Tackle On A Small Budget
h2o express hooks, zoom soft plastics, and h20 express crankbaits. also, check out gander mountains website and they have buckets of soft plastics for 20 dollars you get like 500 pieces, and the quality isn't bad at all.

Shimano Curado Vs. Lews Speed Spool Vs. Bps Pro Qualifier
For your first setup (or your 1000th) i would recommend the PQ. best deal on a reel hands down IMO, i put the money i save into other tackle.

All The Middle Tn People..reports.
Will do, always looking for someone to fish with that don't think a bobber and a worm is "fishing". I would say about march - begining of april is the best time for that particular lake. Looking foward to meeting up, i will keep in contact.

All The Middle Tn People..reports.
Plenty of good water around to fish, hit up the duck river and get after the smallies, also if your interested this spring you should come up this way and fish Portland city lake with me, electric only but i have a jon boat i use on it. it holds some nice fish, plenty like the one in my profile pic. and very few people bass fish, mostly people after catfish and crappie.
-
When Did You Start?
my earliest memories are also of fishing. mostly crappie from ages 3-10. when i was about 10 i found an old rusty spinner bait without a skirt on it( didn't know it was suppose to have one) and caught what seemed like a 20 pound bass on the second cast, and after that i begged for lures every birthday and christmas, and after i got my drivers license there was no stopping the addiction.

Suggestions For First Trip Of The Year?
I will be headed out for the first trip of the year tomorrow, i would like to hear the baits/lures you would suggest. im going to a small lake, about 35 acres, it has a creek channel running down one bank that is about 12-15 feet deep and slowly gets shallower as you move across to the other bank, about 300 yards wide. it was extremely cold about a week ago, but has slowly warmed up and tomorrows high is 55. visibility 3-4 feet. what would you be throwing?

New Tackle Box/bag
http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Extreme-Qualifier-360-Backpack-or-System/product/10204414/ Thoos is what i use, plenty of room for everything you could need, and the bottom part zips off to make it a regular tackle bag if you dont need all of your gear that day.

Kayak Tackle Problem
Sorry for the late response, but thanks for all the suggestions guys. i will take all of them in to consideration. i have been working the past few nights at narrowing down boat tackle vs yak tackle and it is going better than expected. i have narrowed it down to 5 plano boxes and a worm binder (that is too full), i think i may just buy another binder and carry the 5 boxes and 2 binders on my kayak. once again thanks for the suggestions!

Kayak Tackle Problem
thanks for the respose! I have a 12 foot SOT kayak, and since you mentioned it,my problem is i also have a boat, pretty easy to bring all i want in the boat, not so much the kayak. i fish a lot of small waters because i enjoy it more than big lakes.(And it's easier to conseal the kayak in the work parking lot for those days i leave "sick" at lunch ) the rubbermaid containers sound like a great idea for my plastics, and honestly i have never thought about it for the yak. hmmm... now the search is on for the perfect size and shape to fit in the rear well, and possibly a dedicated yak tackle box. i may just have to buy more of my favorites and put them in a seperate box for the kayak instead of trying to use the same gear as on my boat. Thanks for the suggestion! now off to look online for the perfect container..

Kayak Tackle Problem
I know that this question has been asked a million times and i have read all that i have found. My problem is wanting to take ALL of my tackle on my kayak, i use the bass pro tackle backpack with plano boxes and also have another soft sided bag full of plastics. i try to narrow it down to a smaller bag every season, but always fail because i love all of my lures and plastics. how do you other kayak fishermen handle this? i know i am not alone in this battle. any ideas on a better storage system? especially for soft plastics? i have a tackle binder but it does not seem to hold enough without crushing all my plastics and deforming them. any and all help appreciated!

Kayak Transducer Mount Help?
So i have a piranhamax 153 for my kayak, i'm going to do the thru-hull mount. My question is the best way to do it. what should i use to stick it to the hull that is pretty permenant, but doesn't require a scientist to do it? i have heard of marine goop and other things like it, also i have heard of making a well out of electrical putty and filling it with water before i go out. honestly i prefer not to have to add water before each launch, but if it works better then so be it. any help would be great!

Asking For A Response From Every Member
1. Stop worrying about how many fish you catch, and worry about quality fish 2. Don't tie on the "hottest and most popular" lure in your box, ole monster has probally seen it 1000 times. 3. Be sure your equipment is ready for a 10+ pound fish 110% of the time.( I lost 2 possibly PB fish this year because of overlooking simple problems, and thinking " i will re-tie it in a couple of cast, it will hold up".

Middle Tn Fishing
Well, normally i don't like to give up info on my favorite hot spots around middle tn, but to someone who serves our country it is a must. My number one place to fish is Portland city lake, cats out of the bag now. On a serious note, that lake holds some monsters if you know how to catch em. It is an electric only lake, so no outboards.Best part about the lake is all the locals are bucket fisherman fishing for catfish and don't believe in artificial bait. i go there at least 3-4 times a month, sometimes more and as much as i go i have never seen another bass fisherman ( besides a few friends i have told) my PB came from that lake weighing 8.9lbs. This year i have caught about 15 that were over 5lbs. Just make sure to slip the fish back in the water so the bank fishermen don't see haha, because i know they will eat anything that swims. It would for sure be worth the drive from franklin for a day of fishing.

Flukes
the best way to fish it is in the water, i have rigged them every way i know how and caught fish each time. i do believe that color is pretty important with a fluke, the fish get a good look at it when fishing slow, i have about 10 colors( prob overkill ) but i have found that i can switch colors and go from not a bite to a fish every other cast. my favorite is a weightless t-rig 3/0 hook behind a swivel and 12in leader, my go to colors around here are watermelon red, watermelon seed, baby bass, blueguill, and of course like others have said, pearl white. Also the fish in my pic was caught on a watermelon seed zoom super fluke.
