  1. As much as my bank account will allow, haha. this year i have bought a new trolling motor for my boat, a few rods and reels, enough soft plastics and lures to sink my boat, plenty of gas haulin my boat around ( even to work in case the weather is right and i get "sick"." and i also added a kayak to my fleet to hit some backwater honey holes. So i would say at least 3k, and headed to bass pro again tomorrow just for good measure. ..... come to think of it, i should really slow down......next year
  2. Weightless fluke, i know that the fish WILL bite other things, but it seems like every time i fish a fluke its hard not to catch fish, that being said when i have a fishing buddy in the boat they always wanna try one so i rig them one up and 90% of the time they don't even get a bite, even after fishing it exactly like i do. It is a joke between all of us now that i put something on theirs to make the fish not bite haha.
  3. those mighty bugs are great for dragging along the bottom pretty fast.
  4. JDB, I have used my kayak 50+ times since I have had it and I still enjoy it as much as day one, i have put it through its paces with rock, gravel, logs etc on more than one 8+ hour trips. The only problem I have with it is the seat, I am 6'2" 210lbs and the back of the seat dug into my back. It is a very simple fix I just bought one of the stadium seat cushions and put it behind me and no problems at all now. I really enjoy fishing from it. I think it would be a great buy for anyone wanting a good kayak for a decent price. Out of the options in the price range I say go for it!
  5. downsize your bait, and fish it slower. the magnum flukes catch fish but i have caught more 5+ pounders on a regular super fluke. tie on a baby bass or watermelon red super fluke, fish it slow,REALLY slow and you should catch some fish. Also be sure that if the water is clear not to use too heavy of a line, i have had days with a fluke that the difference in 14 and 10 pound line was the difference in getting skunked and catching a fish every other cast.
  6. jettackleonline.com is a better choice for cheap crankbaits, they run true, and the hooks arn't bad. i have bought alot from them. Also i got my shipments in less than a week.
  7. A few moths ago i got some great deals at my local walmart, and just yesterday i went to a different walmart and found 6 creates of heddon and rebel lures for 97 cents each! i got loads of pop-rs,crankbaits, frog-r's, spooks, moss bosses, etc. Like a kid in a candy store.
  8. I was wondering if anyone has tried this line. i bought sometoday and put it on one of my reels to try out. just wondering if anyone has experiences good or bad.
  9. i know some people don't like the Pelican brand but this spring i bought a Pelican Icon 120x angler and i love it, 12' and plenty of room i carry 3 rods, 2 tackle bags and a small cooler and have no problem at all. I can fish all day with no problems and i am 6'1" and 210lbs. It seems to be pretty tough so far as well, i have ran it on top of rocks, gravel, etc with no problems. they sell at Academy for 399 and on sale now and then for 350.http://www.academy.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/Product_10151_10051_751757_-1__?color=Sand&N=670787849&Ntt=kayak&Ntk=All
  10. i have the black max combo m/h rod it is what i learned how to use a baitcaster with. i have never had a problem out of it, .rod is still like new after plenty of abuse. I have never used the pro max, but my guess is it would be just as good or better.
  11. I live not far from you in cottontown tn, and i too have had the same problem as you in the past couple of weeks. This past weekend it picked up a little on old hickory lake, but i also fish portland lake quite a bit as its not far from my house. its a small lake, maybe 10acres and it seems the fish in smaller bodies of water around here are impossible to catch this time of year. early spring i pulled several 5+ pound bass out of there and now i'm lucky if i get one strike all day. i will admit that i like to fish 12 feet or less of water, i have a feeing that the water in the smaller lakes and ponds warms up alot faster, and therefore the fish become more lethargic sooner. I say fish the deepest parts of ponds and small lakes until they become a little more active. also in portland lake the fish just last week or so entered postspawn, i expect it to pick up next week. keep at it, they gotta eat sometime! haha.
  12. i love a super fluke in a watermelon red or watermelon seed color, weightless.
  13. Well i went out today and had 0 problems with the new line. no breaks, memory, nothing. i will be leaving it on this time. thanks for all the replies once again guys. and as a few people have stated, always have an open mind. everything doesn't work on the first try. i still like my stren, but if trilene happens to be on sale i won't think twice about picking some more of it up.Tight lines everyone!
  14. All good replies guys. After digging the line out of the garage trashcan and after further inspection i noticed that in good light i could tell the line was discolored in some spots. After all these comments i picked up another spool today at a different store and spooled up one of my other reels. i want to give it a fair shot. Thanks for all the replies! i will be testing it out monday and tuesday and hope to have a better experience.
  15. To start with,im a stren guy when it comes to mono. I decided over the weekend to spool one of my baitcasters with 14lb Trilene XL just to try it out and go outside of my box for once.after a couple of days i finally make it to the lake and tie on a brand new SK 1/2oz spinnerbait with a trilene knot gave it a tug, no problems. went to make the first cast of the day...SNAP... ^^#*@*??? reeled in, inspected the line, clean break in the line. i thought oh well, i must have damaged the line somehow. i pulled out 5-6 foot of line for good measure and tied on another 1/2oz spinnerbait. fished with it for 30 mins or so with no problems, and then SNAP. i was not a happy camper this time, i noticed that time that it broke right at the knot. It may be an issue with QC at the factory, but still i am accepting no excuses. needless to say when i got home i ripped it off my reel and into the garbage and spooled up some of my ole 12lb stren.
  16. Only if i'm catfishing, bass fishing i can't or i will lose focus and miss strikes. but after a long day of not catching anything, the trip home requires some old school Metallica blasting from my 1500w system.
  17. H2O Xpress black and yellow. i use the smaller one more than the large, drag it off the moss and hold on.
  18. also, i don't see the need for spending 200 on a setup unless there is monney on the line, don't get me wrong i have some expensive setups but honestly i enjoy my cheaper (price wise not quality wise) setups just as much. my mega cast spinning combo and my abu silver max have landed more fish for me than any of my others.spend that extra money on more cranks, plastics, and jigs.
  19. for a cheap all around spinning combo, i like the bass pro mega cast. Nothing fancy but i liked it enough that when i slammed it in the truck door to go buy another one. i like it alot for a $30 combo. the med/hvy with 10lb line is all i use for my weightless flukes now.
  20. Dick's where i live is terrible. the local walmart has a better selection at 1/3 the price. academy on the other hand is cheap and has a pretty nice fishing department.
  21. 99% of the time that's the first bait i throw when i get on the water, if i can't get bit by atleast something, i have noticed that usually (not always) its not gonna be a great day. This is one bait i have TOO MUCH confidence in at times i believe. But more times than not i will catch fish, and alot of them. just the other day i was throwing everything i had not getting even a bite, so i switched to the ole trusty super fluke and fished it for 2 hours before getting a bite. but when i did get a bite it was more like an explosion nearly yanking me into the water, nice 6 pounder. if there is water, fish a fluke.
  22. I figured out it only did it to the bluegill colored flukes tried different colors with no problem... Weird to say the least
  23. how do you guys fish a weightless trickworm? i love fishing the fluke, and i have a few packs of trickworms and have tried to fish them weightless but not sure if im doin it right. do i use just a standard weightless texas rig and a slow twitch method?
