1987 Stratos 189V Steering Cables
I don't mean to scare you but I recently bought a Skeeter 18' for the motor that was on it. It was a BEAUTIFUL boat except for the fist size hole in the belly. I literally took a sawzall and cut the side of the boat out to get the steering cables out. I can tell you pulling cables is nearly impossible. If I were you I would take the cable loose at the helm ( if its a rotary steer). I would try to get as much WD40 down that thing as possible once a day everyday for a month and work it. Good luck!!

Anyone Know The History Of Nitro Boats?
It is correct Nitro has always been a BPS gig. They were kinda the Bayliner of the ski boat. Economy package bass boats that were disposable. They were financed of sweetheart 7-10 year terms and most of the early ones wouldn't make it past 5. I don't know about the newer ones but the early boats were junk.Johnny Morris is a smart smart man. I highly doubt their quality is still sub-par nowadays. He has some heavy competition out there in the marine world. These new boats are probably pretty good. I was at BPS last week and a new z9 was about 54k.

Jerkbait Help/ Advice
Years ago they used to have good hooks on htem and they didn't need tuned. But now adays each on of them is diffrent. I believe its not because of the bait itself but more so the chinese steel hook they put on them. Sometime I need to just change the split rings sometimes I need to change a hook. I use all Mustad hooks on my baits. Ya just gotta play with them. I spend hours on the water tinkering with crap. After you get a few baits tuned you really start too take care of them.

Jerkbait Help/ Advice
It also depends on the line weight you use. I primarily fish Smithwick Suspending Rouge all winter. My favorite is a old school clown color.... on 8 lb line. I tune mine to sit exactly horizontal in the water and stay stationary. This makes the bait lay there for an extended amount of time. Altho I cannot see the fish. I feel they will come up to within a foot or two of the bait and sit next too it. When the bait suddenly moves they will reaction strike it. In real cold water like 43-45 degrees. I start at a 15 count, the first few fish will tell you what they want. If they are hitting it at 6-7 then thats what you go with.

Help Sell Me On Swimbaits
I am a big Senko and plastic jerkbait fisherman. I like to fish these all year long. I had a buddy come out from MO too visit last year. We went to the bait shop he bought a bag full of 6" swimbaits. He said these were all the rage back home. He couldn't get bit on my lake while I was yankin' em to the boat. I read all these posts about these silly things and I just can't see the hype. When do you guys use them? What are your favorite colors? Paddle tail or swim tail? I am a customer in the swimbait isle, your the swimbait prostaffer....Sell them to me.

Now A Believer In Spook...sorta
Papajoe is exactly right. I have been fishing a spook for nearly 30 years myself. The spook is probably on of the most veristile topwater baits. It takes some practice to learn it but when you do it is deadly. It is one of the few topwaters I have caught fish on at anytime thruout the day. I generally use a pretty fast tip rod and quick, steady, fluid, twitches of the rod tip. Fished fast It will make the bait almost swim like a snake. I fish mine pretty fast to cover alot of water. But when I get the bait into a spot where I know a bass should live, I stop it and give it a few flicks. THEY CAN'T STAND IT! Gain some confidence in the bait because it definitly has a spot in your aresenal all summer.

Bass In Northern Colorado
I am from NOCO as well. The biggest bass I have caught in CO was 9 lb 5 oz on a realiable scale. The spring, starting about april 15st thru the spawn, I start throwing a watermelon lizard on a carolina rig. They can't stand it! After that its a white large single colorado blade spinnerbait. Gitzits and Chompers are also very good baits.

Pond Fishing Cold Water?
Clown colored smithwick suspending rouge fished on 8 lb line start with about 15 seconds between jerks. They will tell you the count they want. Usually 5-8 seconds but I start with 15 too give the slow fish some time to get there.
