  1. I haven't read this on anyone's posts prior so I will post it. First of all stress kills more fish than temp. don't handle them anymore then absolutely needed. Leave the lid closed for two reason they are more comfortable in the dark and everytime you let cooler air out and introduce new hot air. When in doubt a small Gatorade bottle frozen half full. You drop a bass with 80 degree body temp to 60 suddenly and it will shock them.
  2. Youtube it... Sit down with a six pack youll waste an evening getting ideas
  3. I did a quick search on these. Hence the reason for the year old post coming back up. I drop shot these today and was very impressed! They look sick in the water so I thought I would get bunch more. HOLY CRAPSTICKS they aren't cheap. What would you guys similar? Thanks
  4. I watched craigslist until one I was interested in came up
  5. I have a brand new filter plate I'd sell ya. PM if interested.
  6. Congrates on the new ride! Next is a bass boat! You will learn a lot of skills in your kayak that you will appreciate once to get into a fishing boat. Like boat position relating to cover and where the fish will likely be on the structure. One thing I might add in your part of the country you may have cottonmouths. They LOVE to come chase canoes and kayaks in the spring, trying to defend their nests. I would encourage you to carry a lil .22 revolver with 22 bird shot in it. I have tried to beat them with a paddle and scare them. But, when they climb in your boat. It's a whole different ballgame. You discover how fast of a swimmer you are.
  7. Wow! Even I was intrigued by that list!! great job! Welcome to the forum!! You will learn a lot here. One word Senko. That's pretty much all I would fish. Do what I call "combat fishing". Stick in ever possible place a bass could live. You lay it on an old bigguns nose and he won't be able to stand it!
  8. Years ago in the dog days of summer on Table Rock. We would sleep all day and fish all night. We'd use black 1/2-3/4 oz spinner baits with a thumper of a copper blade on it. We'd also use solid black wiggle warts or traps. Black jig and trailer is also good for around the trees. Black and red buzz baits or jitterbug might be an option too.
  9. I was fishing a evening tournament last night on a lake that everyone struggles. I was thinking about how the year has been for me this far. I feel it has been a success thus far. We have alot of tournaments left to go. My goal is attainable, I try to catch fish every trip out. I try and make the best of the presentation and if I don't get bites it just wasn't my day. I would like to win 1st atleast once this year.(twice the bridemaid thus far) I would also like to win AOY in our club. So what is your goals? How do you go about obtaining them? Are you like me and have a ladder of goals that you want to see how high you can get?
  10. There is no picnic on either the B or NB side. The advantage is as a NB is all you have to do is fish. I am a B but LOVE the opportunity to be in the back of the boat. I take my shoes off and just fish. There is no disadvantage in fishing "used" water if you are aware of watch for spots the B is missing. The B has a lot to think about trolling motor, boat position, etc. In most tournaments the NB has the front of the boat to fish his spots for 1/2 the time. However most of the time, in my experience, the NB says no and keeps fishing in the back. Occassionally you will get a DB, but this goes both ways. Be courteous don't throw ahead, don't be the guy that hangs it up on some silly cast, fishing for squrrils long after the boat has passed it. The best advice I can give you is to have fun and treat your guy like you want to be treated. It will gain you a ton of respect in a short time in your club.
  11. Great write up dude! Congrates on you finish!
  12. I figured I would give an update incase someone else wanted to do this in the future. You simply cannot shorten the shaft on a MG trolling motor the shaft it some weird thread on both ends. I took a shorter shaft off a 48" brute I had laying around. The things I learned. Do not take the lower unit apart. Simply cut wires in the head and unscrew the lower unit from the shaft then pull wires thru. When replacing the shaft itself loosen the set screw in the gear head and push the plastic head down the outer shaft. take a wrench and unscrew the gear. Put it back together the same way it came apart. One other tip is after you remove the cover. take a few pictures on your cell phone from different angles. it will make the rewiring simple!! Hope this helps someone!
  13. I don't know what model I have the cheap $20 set from Walmart. I can tell you I won't be without them. The one time I have used them wasn't a rain storm. It was a 6 mile tournament run north in 3 foot rollers. The wind was coming out of the NW so everytime the bow would crash a wave it would come right between the consoles of the boat. I felt like I was on the set of Waterworld. I stipped them off when I got to our spot COMPLETELY dry!
  14. When in doubt JIG IT!
  15. Positive attitude Mantra (google it) Next cast is a 6 pounder... Water temp Match the hatch Drive a Ranger...
  16. Welcome to the forum. I am from up north by Loveland. Look into a club like the Denver BassMasters. A ton of good guys!! I am hoping to get the boat down to Aurora for a day of catching footballs.
  17. I have similar problems. I find that its because the line does not go back on the reel tight. I use the load of the rod rather then a swinging action and feather the backlash out.
  18. Yeap I do the same. I have my best success at finding places I Won't! be fishing on TDay. I think more then anything it provides confidence. The fish can move for any reason but going into it you know the area can produce.
  19. Find a local club, probably google one in your area. Fish as a non boater until you get a boat.
  20. I was just thinking of this yesterday. I watched the video and would love to have one...just cant take a saw to my boat.
  21. Slow it down when it gets out of time or gets closer to you. Also I run braid line with a MH rod with a fairly fast tip. A stiff rod will wear you out by the endof the day of walking the dawgy.
  22. Jig and craw baby...
  23. I would try to find a way to throw a big black spinnerbait with a big thumping Copper Colorado blade.
  24. Black spinner bait big copper Colorado blade.
