  1. Well, after reading all this.... 1. I'll be glad to have something closer to me than Gander Mtn. which is about 30 mins away, and in a far more busy area of Indianapolis 2. Like Jakob said above, it's only 80K SF....which the Staples I used to work at was a "normal" sized store for them, and it was 88K SF 3. Even if some of their selection is useless for the typical central IN angler, it'll still be far better than the DSG next door to it 4. As some of you mentioned, I don't anticipate any kinds of problems spending money there Thanks
  2. I live in a small suburb of Indianapolis. We're getting a Cabela's about 10 minutes from my house. I can already predict a dip in my income They started putting up the walls and such this week of the building, and man, it's not very big at all. I've never been to a Cabela's before, but I've been to a Bass Pro, and it's not even close to that big. It looks to me as though it's probably about 125,000 - 150,000 square feet. Which doesn't seem all that big. Has anyone ever been in one of these stores? Is the selection good?
  3. ^^ THIS Seems like every video of technique fishing on YouTube doesn't apply as much where I'm at. Maybe it's my region (central Indiana). I'm not naive, I know southern states produce fishing all year long, but I'd like to see more fishing videos that address northern waters, and not just smallmouth bass. Some techniques and tips for fishing up here would be nice. Either way, it's fun to watch Glenn whack em'. Last year I had no confidence in cranks until late fall, I had good success with shallow squarebills, this year I'm hoping to get more familiar and confident with cranks.
  4. Co-poly is great in terms of line management. I've found Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultrasoft and/or McCoy Mean Green to be my favorites.
  5. The paint job looks similar to Indiglo Halo on some of the new Duo Realis 110 SP jerkbaits.
  6. I hear a lot from the local tournament guys, and fish with one semi-regularly, but I haven't ever heard of anyone doing great at Eagle Creek. It's always about like Monroe....which amounts to 15lb limits winning tournaments. Eagle Creek has some nice dropoffs, so that would be good, but otherwise, no one seems to ever light the woods on fire out there.
  7. i go down to Plover Pit, near Edinburgh each spring. Us guys load up in a couple jonboats and fish while the wives spend our money. It's a pretty deep body of water, and from what I hear the DNR have stocked musky in there, so it might be worth using a 6inch wire leader some of the time. But it's a nice place. I've never caught anything giant, but it's fun.
  8. i have that charger for my size 27 battery, it's great. worth the buy
  9. i have a carbonlite and love it. very light
  10. Yep....what he said.....great advice. It'll ensure you get a great feeling setup and balance.
  11. i hope i'm not limiting myself.....I just like Duo cranks....they're gorgeous.....one could say they *wait for it*.....CAUGHT me pretty well
  12. I use a pretty light setup for senkos and spinbaits. I'm not sure about the 4lb part, I usually go with 6lb. This last season I had my ultralight setup and saw bass hitting topwater all over, so I tied on a Booyah PadCrasher Jr. and threw it at them. I ended up pulling in a 4lb-er....on 6lb test line, which meant my drag was set at ~2lb. Quite a fun fight, but I wouldn't want to chance it with a potential state record or tournament winner.
  13. My wife got me really the only thing I had listed as my Christmas wish....which was the Vexilar Sonarphone. I'm mostly shore-bound, with some trips out in my Sea Eagle inflatable when time and weather permits. So the castable/troll-able sonar fits my needs very well. I admit I was at best only slightly skeptical of the Sonarphone since it's somewhat of a deviation from the standard fishfinder setups, I figured it might be a bit gimmicky and lack truly useable functionality. Being castable, I was also worried about the range of the unit's signal as well. I took it out and tried it on a basic retention pond near my house. There's not much in the way of structure or cover, and I didn't even take an actual fishing rig with me, I just wanted to try out the Sonarphone in a clean no-worried environment. Needless to say, I was quite impressed. I've used other fishfinders, and in terms of accuracy, ease of use, and gathering your basic info, the Sonarphone hits the nail on the head. The app is very easy to use and has quite a nice assortment of functionality. The unit's signal range was very good as well, I didn't have any lost connections the entire time I used it, which included times the sonar was over 100' away from me. So all in all, if anyone's looking at castable/troll-able sonar, the Sonarphone works great. Keep in mind you'll want a very heavy rod with VERY heavy line on it (nothing less than 65lb made me comforable) to cast it with since it's over 4oz, unless you'll be using it on a kayak/inflatable. I researched several kinds, and while they all basically do the same thing, I liked the fact that the Sonarphone used the Wi-Fi which increased its range. But other brands will certainly fill the need of a portable fishfinder. Give it a try, might be just what you need this year.
  14. I've got this.....I think another guy mentioned it earlier, these are the ones that have micro-adjustable compartments, even dividers that can go in at angles. They're called the Plano Custom Divider
  15. Siebert Brush Head jig in Chartreuse Shad - used as a swim jig Crankbaits Jerkbaits
  16. When mine got broken I stepped up to a Compre, and it was a dramatic step. I love that rod! I retipped the Clarus, put my old Sahara reel on it, spooled it with Yo-Zuri Hybrid, and it's now my wife's rod and she loves it.
  17. They're doing a similar thing in the White River here in Indiana. Certain species, including largemouth bass have been tagged, and if you catch one - document, photo, and take the tag to the DNR office, they'll give you a BPS gift card. I have yet to catch one, but then again, I'm also usually going out for smallmouth in the river.
  18. I "saw the light" with jerkbaits this past winter, and used them quite a bit. But I have a question. I notice that every one of them don't suspend completely, they float up. They don't just pop to the surface, they just very slowly rise. I would think it was just the one, but I have 3 Rapalas, A Duo Realis, and Gary Yamamoto.....and all do the same thing, so I can't imagine all 6 jerkbaits are defective from the factory, hopefully not the Duo since it was $15. Is this just the way they're supposed to work?
  19. i have a Stradic FJ 2500.....hands down the best spinning reel I've ever owned. Its not the lightest, but it's by far the most solid feeling and smooth.
  20. I use the custom divider boxes for my terminal tackle too.....hard to beat. You can make the compartments the perfect size for any hook.
  21. Hard to beat Rage Tails or Missile Baits.....I also like the new Netbait Paca Punch
  22. I don't like spinnerbaits. I always feel I'm fishing them wrong/too fast. If I'm throwing a spinnerbait you can bet I've tried everything else and heaved it out there as a last-chance prayerbait.
  23. i was comparing against Deeper. iBobber looks cool too, and i like that it's lighter, but i like the mapping better on the SonarPhone.
  24. I'm planning on getting the Sonarphone too. Like mentioned above, the Bluetooth feature is not appealing to me. I often don't get the ranges listed by products using BT while WiFi has great range. Besides that the additional $100 lost my interest. Download the Vexilar Sonarphone app in the App Store / Google Play store and mess around with it. Looks pretty neat.
