I have tried and I like the spinning reel so much better. More control over the bait and better casting ability.....also better sensibility.

Wacky worms and Rapala crank baits

For me, a spinning rig is a must when it comes to wacky worms. You get more action, you can feel the strike and bait better and cast further.

I have some small ponds I fish and a lot of them have lots of algae coating the bottom. I know I can catch them on crank baits but it is so shallow every cast i get algae. Give me some new baits to try.
