  2. I love this bait and yes it can catch fish in shallow water. I caught a nice fish last month in a shallow (12ft. max) farm pond with a steady retrieve. This bass ate the Mattlures Baby bass in about 4ft. of water. http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j245/klimbach32/fishing001.jpg
  3. unless I have a limit, I would never throw back a small keeper, because nothing is for sure in fishing. I normally try to catch a limit first (doesnt always happen) and than upgrade from there. Depending on how the bite is on a certain day, I might stay in the same areas and upgrade or I might switch to different location to find bigger fish or just one kicker fish.
  4. sounds like Silva is going to fight one of the elite light heavyweights next. He better get his killer instinct back if he is gonna get Rampage or somebody of that caliber.
  5. bling-bling my favorite is the one that looks like a wonder bread bag
  6. give the neighbor guy a break, it was probobly his wife's idea. ;D
  7. When I was around 12-13 years old, my parents bought a new house and we had a pond, 5 acre field, and a creek that ran back behind. Well as they were inside with the builders and people closing on the house, I decided to go down to the creek and fish for some of the carp. I was fishing for about 5 minutes when I looked down and right next to my foot was a HUGE black snake all curled up. Now I was pretty husky at the time 5ft.8 and about 210 pounds (thats a big middle school kid) and my parents said somebody stops and says "who is that high stepping across the field" I went on to play college athletics and my dad still says that was the fastest he had ever seen me run. I ran into that house terrified, out of breath, and hungry to tell them what I had just saw. My dad and I went over their later on and found that snake in the same spot. I think it was just a big rat snake, but that thing was about 5ft. long and all puffed up. One of the scariest moments of my like.
  8. Brad, Thats sounds like an awsome trip. I would have paid money to see you guys with that double you had. I hope to be there next year for sure. Also, you should have seen Waveland this weekend. There were so many boats out there it was rediculous.
  9. Rand, I will probobly be at Waveland on Sat. in a white and blue Nitro.
  10. when drop shotting, there are guys who just lift the rod without reeling down when they get bit.
  11. I usually DVR the espn shows on the weekend and watch them throughout the week. Early this week, my brother (who does not fish) stopped by and I was watching the WGFS where Zona is fishing with Jeff Kreit on Lake Falcon. We could not stop laughing when Zona caught that big fish and took his shirt off. My brother pulls that kind of crap all the time on the golf course and he just thought that Zona was the coolest guy by the way he acts. So to make a long story short, my brother is going fishing with me this weekend, for the first time in years and he has called me at least twice a day all excited about it. I personally think that Mark Zona is great for bass fishing and if he can get somebody like my brother excited about fishing, he is doing a great job.
  12. gatorade and skoal. Then maybe some of those peanut butter cheese crackers after I get a limit.
  13. congrats on the victory and keep up the good work.
  14. Here is a pic of the deadeye swimbait That I was using. I actually just made a few last night in baby bass pattern that I think are gonna be awsome. Thanks guys http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j245/klimbach32/fish012.jpg
  15. The weather here in IN. has been terrible the last couple weeks, so last weekend as it was spittin snow and windy as can be, I decided to go fish a couple small farm ponds with a couple buddies. I was using a homemade swimbait and caught 2 pretty nice fish for this area. One pond was only about 2 achers and the other was about 5. We ended up catching about 20 fish between the three of us, but these were by far the two biggest. http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j245/klimbach32/fishing001.jpg http://i82.photobucket.com/albums/j245/klimbach32/fishing004.jpg Just in case your wondering, the bait was a "deadeye" swimbait that is very similar to the sebile swimbait.
  16. I picked G-loomis, but I do love my carrot stix. I was kind of torn on this one.
  17. cordell suspending spot in chrome/blue, orange belly.
  18. congrats on the second place finish. Wow. 17lb bag will be good just about anywhere around here. Just out of curiosity, what stage were most of the fish in last weekend. Did you happen to catch them shallow?
  19. I hate snakes as much as much as anybody, but good lord Drew9586 I feel for ya bud.
  20. I would go to where the fish have been and drop shot it. Even in shallow water.
  21. I love this topic of athlete vs. athletic. If you are a professional at any game that involves physical endurance, stamina, or mental toughness, I would consider that person to be an athlete. Now are they athletic? Not nessesarily. I think an athletic person could excel at just about anything they set out to do. JMO
  22. like burley said, braid is not very abrasion resistant. Try fishing braid on rocky points or around rocks and you will find out fast. I personally throw cranks on mono 90% of the time. The only times I would fish flourocarbon with crankbaits is when I am making super long casts and I need a solid hookset from a long distance, or if I need to get a crankbait a few feet deeper. I fished Lake Barkley last year and could not get bites in 18ft. with a DD22. Switched to flourocarbon and the bait dove just a bit deeper and the fish bit instantly. Good luck
  23. there are a ton of different ways to fish these, but these are the two I usually use. #1 If I want something that is a little more natural looking that a jerkbait or it is super thick grass, I fish a fluke with a weighted hook. #2 If fish are busting shad on top, I will cast a weightless fluke right at the spot and usually they will smoke the weightless fluke on the fall.
  24. my only advice I can give you on Patoka is to fish shallow like Pont said. For some reason, I am always suprised that the fish are as shallow as they are early in the season there.

I have been painting some baits for a few guys in my club and locally. Here are a couple of baits I finished last night. I have a couple more swimbaits drying in sexy shad and lavander shad and also some flat cranks in green sunfish.
