  1. Lowrance X4 - 240 X 160, $79 Garmin Echo 100 - 240 X 160, $79 Humminbird 165 - 240 X 160, $89 Does any one of these stand out as far as ease of use, reliability, etc? Thanks.
  2. Below the boat? How far below the boat?
  3. How far below the water surface does the transducer need to be? Since I removed my outboard motor, it's only about 2" below the surface, and it seems to be acting up. It keeps flashing a certain depth, and it seems to be stuck. After turning it off and on again, it does the same thing. I'm trying to figure out if it's too close to the surface, or my 20 year Eagle finally went bad. Thanks.
  4. You should also look at the Ascend A10 at Bass Pro Shop. It's $299 on their website.
  5. Thanks guys. I just ordered the white Rustoleum Marine Topside Paint from Amazon. Oops!! I just realized it's an oil base, so I cancelled it. I wound up buying Dutch Boy porch and floor paint from Menards.
  6. I'm looking to paint my floor, which is MDO plywood. What's a good, reasonably priced marine paint, and where can I buy it? Thanks.
  7. I have silica sand left over from our pool filter. Would that work? It's a very fine sand. I talked to a guy at Sherwin Williams, and he said I need to use marine paint. He said porch and floor paint will not hold up very long due to all the water. Do you guys agree?
  8. If you don't mind the "sit in" type, Bass Pro Shop has the Ascend A10 for $299 on their website. Otherwise, you will have to find something used on Craigslist.
  9. Does anyone have a painted plywood floor in your boat? How has it held up? What type of paint did you use? Is it too hot to step on barefoot in the summer? The rear section of my floor's carpeting has a rip, and I'm tired of carpeting every few years. Thanks.
  10. I also love fishing out of my kayak. I have a 16' flat bottom jon, and I hardly use it anymore. It's a PITA to take it out compared to a kayak. 9 times out of 10 I use the kayak. In fact, yesterday I sold my 25 hp outboard because I barely use it. I slide the kayak in the back of my van and I'm gone. And I'm 56 years old with a screwed up back.

I'm looking for a hat that offers more protection from the sun than a baseball cap, but isn't too hot to wear. What type of hat do you guys wear while fishing, and where di you buy it? Thanks.
  12. I use a 5 lb. barbell plate with an anchor trolley.
  13. Thanks. So just find a level spot and put a level on the trailer frame?
  14. Thanks. What's the best way to clean motor? What type of cleaner?
  15. I'm thinking of selling my outboard motor, and was wondering what the approximate value be. It's a 1990 Johnson 25 HP, manual start, short shaft, good condition. What would a fair asking price be? Thanks.
  16. I guess he can't afford the $4 at Office Max.
  17. You can buy them at Office Max any time of the year, but Walmart, Target, etc. only have them at back to school time.
  18. Where's a good place to buy a riser for my Class 2 trailer hitch? I need about a 6" riser I think. Thanks.
  19. I don't even use one because it's too hard for my old, stiff body to reach back for anything. I do use a PVC "rocket launcher" for my rods though.
  20. Pelican kayaks are not very highly regarded from what I've read. You can do much better with a $500 budget. You should also look at the Perception kayaks. I would never stand in a kayak, so I can't help you there.
  21. It's very stable. That's one of the main reasons I bought it, along with it's light weight. I bought it from Kayakfishingsupplies.com, but I just checked and they are out of the 2012 model. The 2013 model is $499 for the recreational model. That's the model I have. The only thing I don't like is the center hatch is not useable, unless you reverse the hatch(which I did). If not, the front of my seat and crotch area are in the way.
  22. If you want a shorter, lightweight kayak, the Malibu Mini X is a great choice. I paid $399 plus $49 shipping for last year's model(new).
  23. Flyfisher, I forgot to mention that when you go to Texaskayakfisherman.com, first click on "Kayak Rigging", then click on "Post your trailer". You will see some great and cheap trailer mods for kayaks.
  24. I mentioned the HF trailers because you said cost was a factor. Definitely check out that thread though.
