  1. Are we only allowed to ask questions that have never been discussed before? Just because I am new to THIS forum doesnt mean Im new to forums in general. Of course i did a search but no other thread was specific. I appreciate the fact that you took the time to respond to this thread yet you didnt feel the need to contribute. Being a member of different forums over the years this is one of my biggest pet peeves. You know why? Because when people down the road search threads and come across one like this instead and it says "try the search" it does nothing for them. Members ask questions and other members answer to build a database even if its a repetitive topic. Then again what do i know.
  2. I want to add some crayfish/crawdad lures/plastics to my arsenal. I remember when i was a kid, if we found a live crayfish and used it for bait, we were guaranteed to catch a bass! I used to like the Zoom crawbugs but when i went to our local Bass Pro shop, i found out they no longer carry them. I guess i could always order them. I would also like to try something else. What are your go to crayfish/crawdad lures / favorite color? Thanks in advance.
  3. Yes they are the same thing. There are a lot of different strains of peacock bass but the one found in Hawaii is known as Cichla Ocellaris. I am not sure if people are allowed to access the places on Oahu but the places on Kauai are private now and the locals who grew up fishing there are no longer allowed to even be in the area. Now places are surround by barbed wire and multiple gates. I know in the 90's, by far Kauai had the best fishing for Tucunares. Kauai has so many hidden ponds/reservoirs that until this day i dont know them all. Kauai holds the state record for Tucunare (9.4lbs), largemouth (9.4) and smallmouth (i cant remember). I would bet that the new state record in still in one of the locations on Kauai. Kauai also has the largest Reservoir in the state (Waita).
  4. Yeah i already went with the 6'. I know a lot of people prefer a 6'6" or 7' but i am just used to my 6'. I actually tried a 6'6" the other day and didnt care of it. I fish mainly ponds 2-3 times a week and like to be mobile. I know a longer rod has its advantages but I guess I feel comfortable with my 6 footer. I am definitely considering the stradics both the FJ and the Ci4. I am also considering the sedona/sahara/symetre. The stradics are more than what i would like to spend but i see it as an investment. My cheaper shimanos have lasted 10 years and I have been more than happy with them. I dont know what is up with the newer spirex though.
  5. Man i grew up fishing for Tucunares on Kauai. Now most of the reservoirs are private and the locals are not allowed to fish there anymore which is not cool. I would rather fish for Tucunares than any freshwater fish. Those fish are beasts and they never give up and fight till they are released.
  6. After reading a lot of positive feedback about flukes, i bought couple packs of the regular flukes and couple of the super fluke. First day trying it out i caught a 2.5 lber on the regular fluke. I got all excited and got carried away and bought a few more colors. Since then i havent gotten a single hit. I actually have seen a bass on more than one occasion get scared of the fluke and swim off. I fish from shore so dont know if that matters. I still have faith in them though but i think i just have way too many colors....haha.
  7. I found out as well that small tubes (pumpkin) worked really well. I found out that the smallies were hanging out in a pondish area that was a run off from a lake that flowed into a creek. I would throw the tube weightless against the current and left it flow to where the smallies were at. Worked every time! When i fished at night, i would catch a lot of smallies using the black night terminator with the single colorado blade. I am not sure if they make those anymore but thats a must have if you fish for bass at night. Great for smallmouth and largemouth.
  8. Wow sorry to hear. If it was me, i think i would have never have made it out the house. That bluegill has definitely been hitting the gym.
  9. Would you guys agree then that the 1 piece medium rod would be superior to the 2 piece medium? I was always told go for a 1 piece over a 2 piece. Let me know what you guys think.
  10. Sorry for the confusion guys but i was talking about the red and black stradic C14. But to get this much feedback along with other options is awesome. Also i am looking to pair whatever reel i decide on getting with a 6' St Croix Premier rod.
  11. Yeah i guess i could order one. I am really picky and usually in situations like this, i like to inspect the rod in person. Its disappointing that there is a bass pro less than 10 minutes from my house yet there is such a limited selection. Now i need to figure out where to order it from. Bass pro online has it in stock but charges an extra $8 cause its a 1 piece.
  12. What does FJ and FH stand for?
  13. Which one? I thought they were $200 minimum? EDIT: I guess I was looking at the CI4 versions. Would those be overdoing then?
  14. I have always been a Shimano guy and liked the quick trigger but I cant stand my Spirex that i bought about a month ago. I have been thinking about getting the newer Stradic C14 (black and red version) but wondering if it is worth the $200??? I havent fished in 10 years but have been getting back in to it and have a lot of catching up to do. I have been fishing ponds and only fish from shore. Is there any advantages to a baitcaster or am i better off with a spinning reel? I want to upgrade to a better rod/reel but just trying to figure out what direction to go. Any other recommendations? Thank you in advance.
  15. Its time to replace my 2 cheap rods. I am interested in getting a St Croix Premier spinning rod in 6'. My local Bass Pro carries only the Medium (2 pieces) and the Medium Heavy (1 piece). I only fish from shore and I mainly use senkos, flukes, swim baits and on occasion spinnerbaits and poppers. As of right now, i mainly fish ponds. I think if the medium was 1 piece my decision would already have been made. But unfortunately no where in town sells it. Between the 2 choices which Premier rod would you guys recommend as the best all around rod for me? Thank you in advance.
