I just started fishing again too and all i fish are ponds. I went crazy buying a lot of stuff right off the bat and I over did it. This is what i would recommend to start off: - Yamamoto Senkos (watermelon is good color to start with) - Zoom Flukes (white pearl, albino, watermelon, baby bass are good colors) - Shallow Squarebill Crankbaits KVD 1.0/1/5 (Bluegil, Sexy Shad and Chartreuse/Black) - jitterbug or popper for top water action

I used to bass fish at night all the time and it was fun as hell. The ponds i fish now don't allow it. Man i miss it!

I just started using the 1.0/1.5 about 2 weeks ago and changed all my hooks after losing the first 2 bass that hit it. Every new 1.0/1.5 I buy, will get new hooks. Some people have not had a problem with them but Im not taking the chance.

I know people that have caught fishing using them too. But darn it, I never caught a fish on every cast like I thought it would! Anyone else remember the Flying Lure. It was around in the early 90's. It was the lure that "swam away from you". Im derailing my own thread...haha. Carry on.

This might be the one I was talking about. Do they have it advertised as a night spinnerbait? I remember it having red specs after you mentioned it.

Years ago (2003-2004) Terminator used to make a black spinnerbait with a short arm single colorado blade. This thing was absolutely deadly at night. I have been looking for them and cant find it anywhere. Terminator spinnerbaits were big back then but they seem to have diminished. What happened? If anyone knows where i can find this specific spinnerbait please let me know. I do see some imitations but still not the same.

I bought the red hooks out of convenience and not because i thought i was going to catch more fish on it. Tell me who hasnt fallen for a fishing marketing gimmick before? I know I have. Sad to say years ago i bought the "Flying Lure", "Banjo Minnow" and even the crankbaits with the flashing lights in them.

My only other advice would be to bring only what you need. It's very easy to overload your backpack. I used to think more was better but now prefer to keep it simple. A backpack definatley keeps you mobile as long as its a comfortable weight.

Funny thing is when i started fishing again over a month ago, i was looking at my old senkos and had a couple black/blue flake that was probably close to 10 years old. I bought them in the smaller Yum Dingers just to try out but so far nothing. I went to our Sportsman warehouse which has more colors than Bass pro but they didnt have it either. They did have 2 colors that i thought were intriguing...Midnight (362) and Pumpkin w/Blue (363).

All i fish are ponds from shore and I didnt catch anything for a month using plastics so tried shallow squarebills early in the morning (5am) and started catching fish. Once it hits around 8am or so the squarebills dont work so pulled out a zoom worm and put it on a 1/8 jighead and caught a fish. I was pretty excited because it was the first time a lizard worked for me. Dont be afraid to try something new or something out of your comfort zone.

What are your opinions on using red hooks? When replacing the hooks on my 1.0 cranks i bought the red EWG gamakatsu red treble hooks along with the Mustad trebles. All the fish that i have caught on them have been on the ones with the mustads. I havent caught a fish on a 1.0 with the red trebles yet. I also have some red EWG hooks for my plastics which I havent caught anything while using it either. I dont know what to think of it.

You cant ask a question like that without mentioning your favorite color and the way you fish it...haha jk. I never used them before but I just bought some in chartreuse. Do you guys use these as trailers or fish it by itself?

I use a simple backpack that i used when i was in college. It fits everything I need. My main plano box is the Plano 4700 and i love this thing. I actually had the smaller one for years along with another tackle box but now i just carry one. Combined most of my important lures and a lot lighter especially because Im always on the move. Very simple yet it gets the job done.

Out of curiosity, what other colors did you use? I would have bought all 13 bags too...haha. Weird thing is I know a lot of people like the black with blue flake and our bass pro doesn't even carry it for some reason.

When Senkos were first popular, everyone said the senkos were impregnated with salt for the fish to hold onto the bait longer. But I have been reading more about the salt creating the action of the Senko. I have wacky rigged a Senko and a Yum Dinger and they dont flutter the same. Also is there a reason to the Kosher salt or is that just your preference?

I caught more fish at night using Senkos than during the day. Watermelon and Junebug worked like a charm during the night. I still been struggling with Senkos during the day so I been using other baits.

I been researching the same topic the past couple days and I am going with the st croix Premier. I have a Premier spinning rod and I love it. I don't have the experience like a lot of people on here but I just think you can't go wrong with the Premier.

I had this same dilemma about a month ago and went with the Ci4 and love it. I was looking for something light and overall the Ci4 is amazing. While making my decision I was aware that a newer Ci4 with x-ship might be released in the future but I did not want to wait plus you never know if a new product is going to be better or worse.

All i fish are ponds and i been having fun with shallow square bills. I cast it all over the place and I bring it as close as possible to any large objects in the water. Im a little gun shy in the "banging" because i got 5 of my 6 squarebills snagged in 1 day, but thats how it goes.
