Got out to Whitman's Pond after work yesterday. Spent two and a half hours working a different part of the pond (where another guy launching said he had luck) in attempt to catch a fish there because I've been pretty well shut out the last few times there. A black/purple t-rigged U-tail, green/white hula popper, chartreuse chatter bait, and yellow perch Rapala failed to produce anything. The closest I got were little fish nibbling at the purple texas rig a few times. A couple weeks prior I fished a Luddam's Ford in Hanover with a friend, where again, I was shut out without so much as a bite. My fishing partner and two other guys we didn't know in a canoe also struck out. I've caught only one bass this year, and not much else in other species either. I see many of your posts with good sized bass, and Fishing Rhino's post reporting catching 37 fish in one outing. I don't think I've caught 37 bass in my life. I was going to head out fishing again this morning, but based on my luck over the last year or so, I really don't want to. Best of luck to you guys here in MA. I started out three or for years ago enjoying fishing and looking forward to catching bigger bass, but now it's just frustrating for me. It's time take a break.

Zoom U-Tail in gourd green. Texas rigged with 1/8 or 3/16 tungsten weight. It's illegal to use lead of any kind under 1 oz on MA waters.

X2 - I've not gotten out nearly as much as I did last year, and have only one LMB in the kayak. Talking to other fishermen I meet along the way, the consensus is that the winter we had here in MA likely threw the bass off. As far as fishing being 'done' in July, no, it's not done, you just have to change tactics and find their Summer 'vacation' homes.... Keep at it and good luck!

Finally got my first bass of the year. Got down to Wampatuck State Park in Hingham around 11:00 and had to leave around 3:00 to get back to work. Caught a decent size sunny (great colors) on an in-line Mepps spinner and the LMB (about a pound or so) grabbed my crawfish colored Chatterbait. Also scared something big in the reeds. I was tossing a chartreuse spinner bait and I'm pretty sure I hit whatever it was over the head because it took off with a big splash. Another guy fishing there caught a 3 - 4 pound LMB on his first cast (picture = proof). Aaron Reservoir is a big place. It's going to take some time to figure out where the big fish are. Time permitting I'll be back there tomorrow. Surface water temps were in the low 70s.

Can't agree more with what's already been said. I chose a kayak instead of a boat last year because my daughter starts college in 3 years and I don't have enough parking at my house because I live in a city. Kayaks are a great affordable option to get on the water and in many cases go where powered boats can't. Craigslist is a good place to start if looking for used. If buying new, hopefully there's a shop in your area that lets you paddle their models before you buy. I own Ascend, FeelFree, and Native kayaks and like my FeelFree best. When you get one, you'll need a good life vest and paddle. There are a million accessories to add too. An anchor trolley, anchor, and stern light should top the list. You'll find tons of opinions and tips on kayaks and fishing from them in this forum. And if that's your son in your avatar photo, you'll end up buying at least two kayaks! Good luck in getting yourself a fishing kayak!

I don't believe I've ever caught 5 bass during one trip.

Great to hear stripers are here.... a coworker's friend caught a 50+" monster yesterday. On a 27' boat, not a kayak. Since I live 300 yards from the bay, I just asked myself why I'm not out there trying my hand at stripers... though working two jobs has nothing to do with it....

Yes, they've got a wheel in the keel. I bought an 11.5 last April and it's the favorite of my fleet. I live on the ocean (Quincy Bay, MA) and find it's better in chop than my 128T. My daughter's Redfish 10 is too small for me, I don't use it. Of the fishing kayaks I tried, the Lure was my pick because of the wheel, the flat standing area, and its ALL DAY COMFORTABLE seat.

I lift my Ascend 128T & FeelFree Lure 11.5 on my Tundra's ladder racks without issue. The Lure has solid handles on the sides and is easy to lift. I lever my 128T up just like Hanover_Yakker's video. Where there's a desire to kayak for bass, there's a way....

Long Pond, off exit 3 is supposed to be really good. I've never fished there, but worked on the 6,000 square foot house on it (you'll know it when you see it). There's a paved boat ramp there, but I don't know if it's open to non Plymouth residents. I've fished Little Pond, in Morton Park, quite a bit. Dawn and dusk are very good, along the grass beds and docks where the few houses are. It's $25 for non residents during the day, but I've never been charged if I show up after 3:00 for afternoon & evening fishing. Perhaps the gate attendant goes home then? This is where I caught the only two rainbows of my life - off a T-rigged worm and DT-10, respectively. If you go in Morton Park's south gate and bear left you'll hit Billington Sea, just behind Little Pond. I've only fished there twice, without much luck. It's got a dirt boat ramp & parking lot. Paddle left around the corner from the boat ramp you'll see Billington Sea Kayak - nice Mom & Pop shop where I bought my Lure 11.5. Good luck! Thoughts..... I don't think I've ever seen a left handed fishing rod in my life, unless someone makes a left handed spiral wrapped custom rod. Please post pictures when you find one.

I have a Diawa Tatula ML/R & *** *** ML/F. I bought the Tatula on sight just because it looked the way it does. I bought the *** because the Tatula is a "reaction" rod, which I surmised is made more for light treble hook lures than soft baits that require 'feel'. Both are great for throwing 1/4 oz and lighter baits (not much lighter...). Both are sensitive, with the advantage going to the ***. The Tatula's build quality and feel are exceptional, not that the *** lacks at all. I've mounted Cores and *** reels to both with #20 braid and find any combination casts great. I find myself using the *** more because it casts weightless finess baits a little better than the Tatula and just feels better than the Tatula.
