  1. I use 1/8 almost all of the time. Sometimes 3/16 and 1/16 too but not often
  2. Do as the other guy said and seal the bottom with silicone sealer. Just a little bit to cover the opening, don't glob it on or you will add weight and throw off the action of the frog. After she is all sealed up, poke two holes in the top. towards the rear but above where it sits in the water. This is to allow air to escape when the bass bites. The holes can be pretty big if you want, they will be on top of the frog and should not take in water.
  3. Why dont you just ask the people at Bob's?
  4. I second that. Havent used any heavy stuff, but I like the red label for finesse and shakey heads so far. Cheap too, I think I paid $12 for 250 yards. I would use either 17 or 20 for jigs.
  5. I would not want to try that ebay crap. Most of it is not even braid but dacron line they call "braid". It is like rope.
  6. I think you should have no problem fitting up to a 7' rod in a focus. I used to fish with a buddy that had a sunfire and we could fit 7' casting rods in there no problem. A couple times there were 3-4 of us in there and everything fit well. Rods were a little bent but not to the point of doing any damage. Anything under 7' fit without bending. You have to go from the middle of the back seat to the dash right up the center. Otherwise I would never consider buying a 2pc rod. You loose way too much sensitivity and the action of the rod is very odd. I'd strap the rods to the roof before I would buy a 2pc rod.
  7. I have a maxxum 70 with a weedless wedge 2 prop. I have to have it 75%+ to chop through coontail mats. But still in an evening of fishing I'll have to raise it and rip off the weeds at least 4 or 5 times. Something that really helps is to raise the motor so the top of the prop just barely get sunder the surface, 1/2" or so. If you go too deep weeds will wrap around your shaft and cause drag which will make your prop wrap with weeds even on 100%.

Just go out and throw it around. You cannot fish a frog wrong... just make it act like a frog on the surface thinking about where to go.
  11. A couple frogs, two rod holders, and some hooks/weights.
  12. Get what you want. Sounds almost as if you plan to sell it?
  13. Whats up with Bass Pro and their shipping? They used to ship fedex ground and I would get my order in 2 days MAX, sometimes overnight. (MO to eastern IA). Placed an order the other day and they shipped it something stupid through fedex.. mail innovations or something like that. Anyways, 7 days to go 400 miles (about 7 hours driving). What the heck? Are shipping costs that so freaking high that you have to charge me $14 shipping for a 3lb box and then ship it the slowest way possible? Heck orders from TW (1800 miles) only take 4 days and they have FREE SHIPPING.
  14. Black should be easier to see in murky water (vs green). Green blends in, nothing in the water is naturally black. There is a reason a black jig is the preferred bait for fishing murky to muddy water. When I use a sharpie on braid it is to turn hi-viz yellow braid green. Sometimes black but usually green.
  15. If you have $120 to spend then I would get a nice rod and cheap out on the reel for now. A pflueger trion and abu garcia cardinal are two cheaper reels that will work fine until you feel like upgrading. The rod is the most important part when it comes to spinning combos. A cheap rod is no good, a cheap reel can be good. I would suggest you look at the st. croix line of rods and find one in your price range, they are all good.. even the lowest end of their rods are great.
  16. Sounds like you do not have a leader and are just running tippet from the fly line to the fly. That works with some big bass flies but some of the lighter flies will not turn over well with a straight tippet leader. My suggestion is to use a nail knot and tie on about 3' of 20# mono or fluoro, then 3' of 14# mono or fluoro, then 3' of 10# mono or fluoro, and then your tippet to that. For mono to mono and fluoro to fluoro use a blood knot.
  17. Bingo! That is how us walleye guys have been fishing them for years.
  18. For the spooky bass, I would try a small finesse worm wacky rigged with a small hook. Fish it as slow as you can. Also add some scent to it so when he picks it up he sucks it all the way in. For letting the other go, he probably saw you running around and got spooked. Bass can see what is going on out of the water really well, survival instinct.
  19. First I would contact your local conservation officer and tell him what you are planning to do. He will tell you straight up if it is okay or not. I cant see him saying to not do it as long as you own the pond and it is not connected to any other body of water. For transporting, I'd say horse troughs in the back of a pick-up would be the best way. Hook up some DC bilge pumps to circulate the water and run them off a car/boat battery in the bed. I'd screw or bolt on plywood lids to keep the water from splashing out and bass from jumping. Drive fast and don't screw around, right from the pond to the truck to the other pond. Maybe hit up a gas station half way and drop a couple pounds of ice in each one.
  20. Basstackle has a sale right now for the 4th
  21. I am a huge fan of power pro 4lb braid on my UL rods. Talk about sensitivity! The stuff is listed as <1lb diameter, it is like hair! I tested the breaking strength and found nearly 7#! The stuff is strong as heck and very very very sensitive to crappie up-bites when throwing 1/64-1/80 jigs.
  22. 14# mono is the all around line IMO. You can use it for anything.
  23. I have tried the original fused many times and just did not care for it. I would take power pro braid over it hands down. If you have never seen power pro, go take a look... walmart carries it. It is very round, very smooth, and very sensitive. Only downside I have found is that it loses its color quick, which does not make any difference to me. I sharpie the last foot of the line usually.
