  1. I have a u shaped and a round. I much prefer the u shaped tube. Don't skimp on the fins. If they're uncomfortable or hard to use, your day could be miserable. Best part of float tube fishing.... you can just pee when you need to.
  2. I have two sit ins and enjoy them. I find that they are stable since you sit lower than a sit on top. My advice is to wait to rig your yak until you've went out a couple times. I've talked to folks who rigged before they knew what they wanted and where they wanted things and they regretted it. I have really simplified my rigging over the years. Less is more!
  3. Not just saltwater. I have had 50 inch class muskie follow bass to the boat and try to eat em.
  4. How about protourbaits.com. They make some nice ribbon tail worms and you can buy in bulk which is nice.
  5. Your hooks are fine in my humble opinion. I've used Trokar, Gammys, Owners and Mustads. I build lures and now I buy Mustad triple grips. They are very sticky and seem to work well. But as Tom said above, big bass can straighten hooks. I understand your concern about drag and worrying about the fish getting caught up in cover. This is why big fish are so cherished by us silly anglers, they aren't easy to catch.
  6. Booyah popping pad crasher. Booyah pad crasher. I use this in thicker stuff. Koppers live target. I don't buy them as much anymore but I still like them, just not their price tag. Colors: Black, Leopard Frog and White. As others have stated, color doesn't matter until it does. I look for the softness of the plastic first and foremost. These brands are soft and seem to have a better hook up ratio.
  7. I go to the place on the lake that I know holds fish and slow down, downsize and try to stay patient. This is when I rig up a dropshot.
  8. Fav-Poppers, walking baits, and frogs. If you don't love topwater explosions, there's something very wrong with you. Least favorite- dragging plastics deep (t-rigged, c-rigged, drop shot). I'd rather stay home.
  9. I don't use a net and don't really see the need for one in a Kayak. I'm sure others will disagree but I just lip the bass or use my fish grabber for toothie critters.
  10. All great advice here! I'll tell you about a story that might help. I was trying to teach my son to frog fish and he was having trouble understanding how long you have to wait to set the hook. Well one day he happened to see me catch one on a frog and he was astounded by the amount of time I waited to set the hook. Since then he has improved and now his hook up ratio has skyrocketed. It's just hard to understand how long to wait until you see it in action. Yes, some days they inhale it and practically hook themselves but most days you have to wait until you feel them. I personally use Boyah frogs. I prefer the poppin pad crashers. They don't break the bank and they are very soft. I don't bend out the hooks because I don't like when I get snagged. As rods go, I get a much better hook up ratio when I use a heavy rod that's very stiff but I sacrifice casting accuracy so I've went to a MH rod and I see it as the best of both worlds.
  11. I have a Wavewalk kayak (wavewalk.com) and I fish standing up plenty. I know that there are a bunch of great yaks out there but I really enjoy mine because I have the ability to easily stand when I want to. I will say that you should be careful buying some "angling" yaks. Basically companies are putting rod holders in their yaks and calling them "angling" yaks. On the other hand, if you don't want to spend a bunch of money, go get a cheap one and see if you like yak fishing but I bet you will and I bet you'll get a more expensive one quicker than you think. If you want more info on the Wavewalk, PM me. And no, I don't work for them.
  12. I've fished out of a Kayak for 3 years now and I've never used a leash. To answer your original question, I think your rod could pull out of the flush mount holder. It depends on the thickness of the butt end and other factors. I would use a Scotty that "locks" the rod in for a trolling application if you want to be sure that it won't come out. The flush mount holders are really only meant to store the rod until its used.
  13. I've been using the Duo popper now for a couple years and it's hands down my favorite popper. It pops and walks and just flat out catches em. I'm hooked but they are expensive.
  14. The bass in my avatar weights about 4 lbs so I'm guessing yours is around 16 pounds....but then again I'm not good at this stuff.
  15. I'm 44 and you've killed my PB already! I'm wondering if you would have had a picture even if you had your phone with you. You said you went into the water.... wouldn't your phone have been in your pocket? In my experience, wet phones don't work so well. Forget the picture, it's the memory and if anyone questions you, they're just jealous! Hmmm, maybe I should question you because I'm sure jealous!
  16. Right or wrong, when Catt and some others on here who have fished for over 50 years says something, I listen. Not blindly but I take their wisdom anytime they're willing to give it. I've listened to Catt on many occasions and went out on the water and applied what he's said and I've caught more fish. The older I get, the more I realize I don't know much.
  17. Does anybody remember that fishing show with fish fishburne?
  18. Use a duffle bag or a normal backpack and stuff it w 3600s or 3700s. Transfer braid from last years spool to a new spool. Use regular needle nose pliers that u can get at a hardware store, no need to buy a name brand
  19. I already get enough comments from people when I throw a frog. I bet everyone would think i was nuts if I threw a big ole rat....sounds like i better get or make one!
  20. Just went to the local sportsman show and picked up a Temple Fork Outfitters Signature rod for $25 and a bunch of hand poured plastics. But that rod price was ridiculous. I didn't even need it but I couldn't pass it up.
  21. I just can't remember where I put them!
  22. I take a picture of every beer I drink over 12 ounces.....
  23. This year Minnesota moved the bass opener up to coincide with the Walleye Opener (May 9th) so not until then. Note: The first two weeks of bass season is catch and release only and it's different for the Northeast part of the state I believe.
  24. I just picked up six 1/4 ounce swim jigs from Seberts. I can't wait to fish them. I just got started with swim jigs last year but I didn't have a great hook up ratio. I watched the video above where Tom says to just keep reeling but that didn't seem to work for me. The fish were just probably swatting at it that day.
