  1. Man, I just think it would be boring to catch a fish every time you thought you would. It's the anticipation that keeps me coming back for more.
  2. Last year's list: drop shot-check-caught many fish and one 5 pounder Jig-Failed miserably This year: Jigs (swim and conventional)-Gonna try again this year Square Bills- I have them but just don't throw them much. It's just hard to put down the top water lures for me. They're so fun!
  3. I Know I Should, But I Often Forget To... Stop throwing top waters when the bite is done. I just keep waiting for one more! Check my balance before buying more fishing stuff Retie Put my lures back in my 3700s after a day fishing. They end up in a big mess in a corner of my front deck Throw a follow up lure when I miss a blow up Mow the lawn Pay attention to my wife when it's fishing season
  4. When some guy is fishing post spawn in a private lake or pond when numerous lures can bring em in but he's saying how great his new lure is and all. When pros get mad and snap their rods When Im in my kayak fishing and people ask if I'm fishing When I'm in my bass boat throwing bass lures and people ask me what I'm fishing for When I go to Cabelas and the people working there don't know anything about bass fishing. They just look at me like I'm nuts for not fishing for walleye. People who get all their stuff out of their truck and load their boat on the ramp. How the winning lure at the classic becomes so popular. I mean it may work for you in your water at the right time but it may not.
  5. latest orders 6 war eagle spinners, 4 cavitrons, 4 strike king rage blades, numerous different hooks, 2 Booya popping pad crashers, tons of plastics and tungsten weights all from TW. Swim jigs from Seiberts. square bills, lipless cranks, and top water lures from Academy. Senkos and flukes from Cabelas. Got a new Revo SX off of ebay for $100 and a used Daiwa Lexa 100 off of ebay for $50. Then I had to get a couple new rods.... Oh and I bought 30 treble hooks and some other stuff from LurePartsOnline because I make lures as well. Help me!
  6. Never forget the food Always bring something to drink (non-alcoholic is preferred) When you pull up to the ramp and get out to get the boat ready, put the plug in first every time! Get the bunks wet first when pulling the boat out. Boca Grips will save a trip to the ER. During your day fishing, stop, look around and realize how good you have it!
  7. The reason I love BR is that I now know there are people out there that are crazy about bass fishing just like me! Another neat aspect of BR is we can share in each others successes. Like Paul Mueller's second place finish in the Classic last year or Gene's recent deal with Alumacraft. Or simply someone's new PB. Great stuff guys!
  8. I tried keeping a log last year and gave up. It felt to much like work.
  9. The more I know the more I know I don't know! I do agree with an earlier poster when they said they liked the sport but dislike the hype. I get that these companies are trying to sell lures but the act of throwing a lure on a private lake during the spawn to show me how great it works gets old. Thank goodness for this site and honest TW reviews. I work for a living and I want to spend my hard earned money wisely. I use Cavitron Buzz baits, War Eagle Spinners, Strike King Sexy Dawgs, Duo Realis Poppers, Seibert Jigs and I buy lipless cranks and square bills from Academy (H2O brand). Why, because they all work, are reasonably priced and are durable. I also recently got into the Elaztech line of plastics because they are very durable. Oh and I love the Rage Tail products because I've caught a ton of bass using them.
  10. Great question. I just fun fish so no great tourney records like some of you guys! Congrats by the way. Positives Good numbers Caught bass on lures I carved and painted! 3 bass over 5 lbs Got my wife fishing this year and she's good at it! Fished w/ my boys a couple times. Got to know my new boat better (first full season with her) Got much better at drop shotting I found a new canoe/kayak only lake that is loaded with bass Fished up on the Canadian side of Lake of the Woods and caught a ton of 15 inch crappies and a 39 inch Northern! Negatives Didn't focus on the jig like I said I would Didn't get out as much as I wanted Put a treble hook in my finger and had to go to the emergency room to get it out Didn't get a PB I completely missed the spawn (season opens right after sometimes in MN) Spent too much time trying to get them to hit top water lures instead of switching it up All in all, I'd have to say a solid B+. I have a new job now and I get every other Friday off so I'll be able to fish more this summer!
  11. I also wanted to pull for someone other than Casey but he seems like such a humble guy that I ended up happy for him. I like the cold weather format, it makes the guys work for it. It reminds me of the way the US Open makes golfers work for it.
  12. I'm in. I'm so sure I'm gonna win that I bought a new Revo just for the rod!
  13. I too have made a trip to the Emergency Room to get a treble out of my finger. From that point on, I used a Boga Grip type deal to grab any fish when using trebles. I think I bought the Berkley model with a spring scale on it for around $40. Works great!
  14. Try a wavewalk kayak, they're stable and fun to fish from. Wavewalk.com.
  15. I want an auto plug for my boat so I never have to worry about it again. I love the idea of industry standards for rods. I would like the fishing industry to put in FDA like standards so manufacturers can't just run around making silly claims about their lures. I want a shallow water anchor that works and costs around $300.00. Oh and a law that if you unpack all your crap at the boat ramp, your boat gets taken away.
  16. Big X2 on this. He's awesome,
  17. I just saw that Chronarch 200s are on sale at Cabelas for $159.99. I would grab one but I just won an auction and picked up a Revo SX3 for $100.00.
  18. I have a couple of thoughts here. One is that we have to remember that there isn't an industry standard on rods. I wish there was. I have MHs that feel like Heavies etc. My second thought is that if you are going to ask for advise, we need more information. If you want a rod, we need to know what kind of fishing you do, where you fish from (boat, shore) and what your budget is. Even at that, you need to do some research. And when all is said and done, there are a bunch of great rods out there. I own a Veritas, St. Croix's, Quantum's and some from a local chain (made by *** I believe) and they're all great. Why should we care about what rod to use with what technique? You don't have to but for each technique, I've found that one rod makes the task easier than others. When frogging, I get a much better hook up ratio when I use a stiff heavy rod. When I pitch, I find the action and sensitivity of my Veritas MH helps. When I'm walking the dog from my Kayak, my 6 ft MXF works great. Can I go out there with one or two rods and catch fish? Sure and I can tighten any nut with a pair of vice grips but I like to use a socket set or the right size box end wrench if I can. I hope that makes sense.
  19. I live in one of the worst (North Dakota) right on the border and fish in one of the best (Minnesota). MN has just about everything you would want. No pressure, small lakes, large lakes, access to one of the great lakes, rivers (how about the Mississippi??). Not huge LMBs but a ton of 3-5 pounders. SMB are readily available as well. It's a lot like Michigan and Wisconsin in that most people fish Walleye. So even on a day when there are a bunch of boats on the water, they aren't fishing for bass! The big downside is that you can only fish for 5 months or so if you don't ice fish it can be a long wait. From what I can see, TX is probably the best place for me to winter when I retire. That's the life, TX fishing in the winter and MN fishing in the summer baby!
  20. I build lures all winter and research my next purchase. I'm getting another Daiwa Lexa and a new rod this year. But that's all........so far.
  21. I don't like to use an anchor but I will if I need to. Two years ago I used my anchor to fish a main lake point on a windy day. Worked OK but I made the mistake of anchoring in the prime fishing spot so I think I scared em away for a bit.
  22. Because in the summer I have the pick of thousands of lakes that hold quality bass and very few people fish them. I don't pay to launch my boat. I don't have to worry about someone being on my fishing spot. I don't worry about crime. In the fall I hunt ducks and I don't have to stand in line or wait for a lottery etc. I just drive out to a pothole, setup, and start shooting. The economy up here is great. The people are wonderful. If I get sick of the winter, I just jump on a plane and go south for a vacation. Yes, I hate winter but I LOVE the spring summer and fall!
  23. So does the Red River on the ND MN border.
  24. all the five pounders have disappeared since I started using a scale. My profile pic shows my pb....7 lbs I think. I caught it pre scale on a 36 inch long topwater lure!!!
  25. I was fishing early one weekday morning between the docks and a swimming platform of a small resort on my home lake when the owner tells me I can't fish between the docks and the swim platform. I mean it was like 6am on a Tuesday and no one was around. He said he knew no one was there but later that day he had people coming. I kindly told him I wouldn't be there long and kept fishing.
