Bull Run Marina, Va
I don't know why, but this morning I thought I might be able to get a little bit of shore fishing done out at Bull Run Marina. Holy water levels, batman. Couldn't find any place to cast out. It looks like it has a lot of opportunity for shore fishing when the levels are normal... will have to try again another day.

Anyone Ever..
I agree. It looks like it has fins at the tail.

Thoughts On A Quality, Entry-Level Baitcaster Setup
Here's a question... if I bump my budget up to $300 how do my options look?

Nova Fishing 7/2-7/3?
I learned BC on a cheap Quantum Octane combo ($50 from Dick's) and I think that definitely made it a little more difficult for me. It's not that smooth so I'm looking to upgrade soon. The good thing is that the first few times I used it I backlashed like hell and am now very good at clearing bird's nests.

Does Getting Skunked Bother You?
I fish because it's relaxing and therapeutic. I get away from the stress of work and life in general to enjoy some peace and quiet on the water or on the shore. I think if ever starts to frustrate me I will need to step back and reevaluate what I'm doing.

Your Hottest Plastic Colors???
Color hasn't seemed to matter much for me with Senkos. I bought a bunch of colors and have been catching fish with each one.

What Gun For Concealed Carry??
I carry a Glock 26 Gen 4 in a Comp-Tac MTAC holster. When I need something smaller I have a Kahr CM9, in either an IWB kydex holster or a pocket holster.

Do All Ponds Have Fish???
I also live in NoVA and my neighborhood has a pretty good sized pond, probably 500ft x 150ft. I know it holds some panfish. I'll have to try it one of these days to see if there is anything else. I've never seen anyone fishing there, though.

On a boat or working the shore? Care giving up your spot/method? No worries if not. If I get out again tonight I'm going to try some new things.

Lake Ridge Marina, Va
Went again last night and again caught a little dink by the weeds on a Senko. I did spot a pretty good sized guy swimming by the weeds and was going to go after him but the crew teams showed up.

Thoughts On A Quality, Entry-Level Baitcaster Setup
A trip to BPS is in order. Too bad it's ~1 hour away. I totally forgot the Carbonlite. I'll have to give that one a look.

I'd Be Happy Only Using Senko's Forever
Hooked a fish on my first ever cast with a Senko. I'm still new to them so I have been using them almost exclusively to build confidence and try things. I did go a little overboard buying Senkos last week during Dick's buy one, get one 50% off sale.

Thoughts On A Quality, Entry-Level Baitcaster Setup
Background: Got back into fishing recently and picked up an inexpensive Quantum Octane combo at Dick's to get me going. Well, I'm comfortable with the baitcaster now and am starting to feel unhappy with the overall quality/performance of the combo. I also opted for the RH reel and feel like I need to move to LH so I can control the rod with my dominant hand. I'm thinking about a BPS Pro Qualifier on a 7' Med/Hvy Abu Vendetta. This would be my "do everything" rod and reel until I start to work on specialized setups in the future. Ideally I will stay under $200. Suggestions, thoughts? Thanks - Steve

Lake Ridge Marina, Va
Anyone have success shore fishing here? I know it's pressured all to heck but there has to be something. I caught two dink LMB in the shallows off the big dock last night. One was an accident (practicing my pitching) with a 5" 955 Senko onto the edge of the grass right off the dock. A little guy grabbed it on the initial fall. Second was with a 4" wacky rigged 239 Senko a little further away from the dock but still on the edge of the grass line. Wondering if anyone has caught some decent sized LMB there from the shore or docks. It's so close to my house it's nice to head on over after work.

Smaller Lakes In Springfield, Fairfax, And Burke
I caught 5 from the dam on the morning of the 4th. I think the rain the previous day and the cooler temps and overcast skies helped keep them in reach. I was catching them on the black w/ blue flake and green pumpkin. Mostly Texas rigged, I may have grabbed one on a wacky rig but honestly I can't remember. Since I'm still getting the hang of my baitcaster I was accidentally fishing slow. A couple times on the initial cast I'd have to clear a bird's nest so my Senko would make it all the way to the bottom and sit for a while... sometimes a minute or more. I was getting strikes this way so I took it as needing to fish the worm really, really slow. Best of the day was 3lbs. Had another a little over 2lbs. The rest were in the 1-1.5lb range. Went back the following morning and... absolutely nothing! I was really happy with the Senko, though, so I took advantage of Dick's buy one, get one 50% off sale and bought waaaaay too many Senkos in a variety of colors and sizes to try. - Steve
