  1. Correction, fishing kayak, not fighting.
  2. I just bought my first fighting kayak yesterday. I have been wanting one for a while after fishing on a kayak last year and settled on a Jackson Kayak Cuda 12. I had narrowed my choices to that and a wilderness ride 115x. I demo'd both and fished out of them both and decided that the Cuda was best for me due to the overall design, seat comfort and standard options. The ride definitely had the edge I'm stability, not by a ton but it is more stable. However, I was able to stand and fish in both during my demo. Can't wait for the bite to pick here and land some fish!
  3. Just a guess but I was thinking 7-8 lb range. Great fish though!
  4. I think I want to try a Powell Endurance and I just need help narrowing down which one. It will primarily be a plastics and jig rod. Most of the time I will be at 1/2 oz or less with the occasional jig at 3/4 oz. Are these rods under powered, over powered or right on d'or their ratings? Which would you guys recommend? Thanks!
  5. I want to get a setup for fishing plastics and jigs. I have narrowed it down to a few options and I wanted to get some input on what I have listed. Thanks for the help and input. Reel (left hand retrieve around 7.1 ratio) Daiwa Tatula 100: $150 Lews Tournament MG: $130 Shimano Curado: $180 Rods - around 7' MH *** Black: $100 Fenwick HMX: $80 Kistler Pro Series: $120 I am also open to other suggestions in the price range if I am leaving something out that should be considered. Thanks again.
  6. I would let is be for the first few weeks until things have a chance to set. After that I would play it by ear and see how things are going. IMO 6 weeks without fishing sucks but so,does having to pay for more surgeries and being out of fishing during those if things don't set right.
  7. If that fish is laying flat on the ground next to your foot then it's huge! I am going to guess that it was not fully flat and that the fish was 7 lb 6oz. Either way, great fish!
  8. I don't have any experience with the Seibert products but have read many good things. I mainly wanted to chime in and congratulate you for your hard work. It is becoming increasingly rare to have a young person like you who is willing to put in the time over summer to work hard and save for something they want. Enjoy it!
  9. I recently made the switch too and I bought a bass pro qualifier with a bass pro carbonlite 6'6" mf. I learned using the bulk line they put on for free. Like you, I grew up on spinning sit-ups and I found the switch quite easy and I am really enjoying it now. Good luck!

Great bass! I know what you mean about dinks and the 2-3 lb. range. I am still looking for a big one but usually seem to get a few little guys most times I go out.
  11. I agree with everything that has been said. I have recently made the switch to baitcasters also. However, when I go fishing I bring at least one spinning rod for my light/weightless/finesse applications. Most of my fishing is with soft plastics and I am starting to try to work on jigs. I find myself in the 1/4-1 oz. weight range and I have no problems throwing that on a BC. However, I also throw some weightless or 1/16 oz setups and my medium light spinning set up is great for it. As J Francho said, I just added it as a tool to my arsenal, not replaced it all together. However, when it boils down to it, if you are happiest and most comfortable throwing a spinning set up then do that because I assume that you are like most of us and fish for fun and to catch fish. If you aren't having fun or catching as many fish with a BC because you are limiting yourself or throwing setups you aren't comfortable/confident with then don't use it. There isn't a wrong answer or decision to be had.
  12. Haha, imappreciate it Chris. The reels are rated for 230/15, 180/20 and 120/30. I have already located a few tackle shops near us down there and will pay them a visit. Flyfisher, that's about what I will be doing. Just looking to have some fun and hopefully catch a few fish while I'm at it! Thanks guys!
  13. Hey guys, I am looking for some advice here. I am going to the Outer Banks on vacation in a couple of weeks with my in-laws. I have some saltwater spinning rod set ups that my dad and I used to pier fish with when I was younger and they are still in pretty good shape. However, I haven't done any saltwater fishing in probably 10 years. What should I bring in terms of terminal tackle and what should I use for bait? Also, I will need to put new line on, what would be a good and inexpensive line and what lb. test should I throw on? Lastly, how should I hook up the weight to keep the bait down? Thanks for the help! Chris
  14. I am looking to get a dedicated cranking rod and I am unsure which to get. I have narrowed it down to a Daiwa Ballistic or a Powell Diesel. With the Daiwa on sale they are both about the same price ($70ish). I would appreciate some input on the rods or if there are others in my price range that are good alternatives. Chris
  15. Yup, I did once when we were deep sea fishing. Got out and there were 12-15 foot continuous swells and everyone wanted to stay out and try to keep fishing. Lets just say most of us were not happy campers.
  16. I bought a deep 3700 box that is perfect for lots of plastics. Then the 5th box gets laid on top of the other 4 and gets held in by the zipper. I also have some 3600 and 3500 in the sides and front for terminal tackle and other small misc lures.
  17. I am saving up to get another rod and am looking for some input on what power to look at getting. I currently carry a 6" medium light spinning setup for weightless and finesse fishing and a 6'6" medium power BPS carbonlite for pretty much everything else. I think I have settled on trying one of the *** Black *** rods but I am unsure whether to get a medium heavy or heavy power rod. I am also undecided on the 6'7" length versus the 7'1" length. I fish lakes from the shore but I am looking at getting a kayak in the next year hopefully. I don't want to get a setup for a specific type of fishing since I am limited with space and would like to be able to use the rod for multiple applications. Thanks for the input. Chris

First off, welcome. You will hear this from some other guys but I would read the fishing articles links and also check out the bassresource videos on YouTube. Just keep at it and it will work. Spend time on the water and fish with others if you can and learn from them. Also, try just sticking with one technique to start until you have some success. It may be a pain but you wil start to learn a lot. Good luck!
  19. I had a 6 inch rock bass take a 6 inch lizard on a 3/0 hook. They have small mouths too. I have also caught my PB on a 5 inch Yamamoto cut tail worm with no weight on a 1/0 hook on my medium light setup. So I basically agree with what has already been said.
  20. I use 12lb mono or flouro on my baitcaster, 15 lb braid with a flouro leader on a spinning rig and 5 lb brais with a flouro leader on a medium light spinner.
  21. I'm no pro but here are my thoughts. Bigger hook does change the way a lure moves. Smaller seems to equal more movement on all baits but sometimes you need to use a larger hook to make sure enough will come through the plastic when you set it. I catch a majority of my fish on 3/0 or smaller. I throw anything from an 8" lizard to worm on 3/0 all the way down to a 5" senko. I have also caught 3-4 lb bass on 1/0 hooks on 6" lizards and 4" senkos. So IMO a smaller hook tends to give you better motion and doesn't necessarily stop you from catching decent size fish.
  22. @brian Needham - I agree, it's time to buy a cheap scale. @A-Jay - haha, thanks. I burn like a ghost so I try to cover up as much as possible and wear clothes with the UPF in them.
  23. I do. I have 15 lb power pro on one spinning setup that I use weighted soft plastics on and 5 lb power pro (got a great deal on it) on my medium light rod. I use a flouro leader on both.
  24. Nice_Bass, that was my guess, somewhere a little under 4 lbs. Derekxec, I couldn't agree more. Pictures are terrible to judge size as the bass can look tiny or huge depending on how far away from the camera it is. Plus I am 6'3", 240lbs so if the fish is even with me or even a little behind me it tends to look small. So, based on that theory it was most likely a 8 lber that I just held too far from the camera and behind me haha . Thanks for the input guys!
  25. I think it was definitely over 3 lbs (based on the weighed 3.5 lb fish I caught that wa 18.5" and about 13" in girth), like I said picture makes it look small but the measurments are pretty darn good. 19.5" measured nose to tail tip (not pushed together). Here is another picture of it next to my rod that gives a better perspective or what it actually looked like. The cork on this rod from butt tip to tip of the foregrip is about 16.75"
