  1. I believe that straight braid is the best because it doesnt sink like flouro or float like mono. and its stronger and thinner than both. I personally use braid for all applications that I want to make sure I get the bait back i.e, crankbaits, poppers, any hardbait really. I use mono and flouro for dropshot and plastics where all I would lose is a hook and weight.
  2. well you were the last... they are sold out now
  3. As a 32year old I played a lot of video games 20 years ago and one of my favorites was duke nukem. as a spoof I used the screenname of "Duke scrotum" for everything. as this country got more and more sensitive there was a lot of websites/games that were getting offended by the word scrotum so I had to choose a new name. I was watching a program on the discovery channel about wolves and they kept talking about the alpha male and it stuck.
  4. My walmart had a bunch of stuff on clearance. bought 3 packs each, #1, #2, and #4 VMC spinshots for 2$ each. also some trokar, mustad, and owner hooks. some were as low as 1$ for 5 hooks.
  5. I put it on the reel foot solely for the purpose of having the date it was spooled on it. I could do the same by memory as well
  6. this is what I do. Its not something you can just look at but you need to just be able to remember when youre on the water imo. Its type of line, strength, and date it was spooled. https://www.flickr.com/photos/118325087@N08/12670553444/player/a4d2c05031
  7. I just bought some megastrike shakey2 pro shakeyhead jigs. They are near perfect. I have only put them in the bath tub but they always stand up. I will be using a z-man finesse worm or rage anaconda.
  8. I was just at cabelas for a tackle bag and say the split grip premiers for the first time. They look nice too. I would have to agree with the others go for the premier over the mojo.
  9. I have the Tatula R and the revo STX. I love them both. I also think if I were you I would consider Lews. Probably the BB1 Pro or Tournament pro. I have the regular tournament on the way.
  10. I read this thread when it first got brought up and now I want to know if there are any brands that offer prescription lenses that will work well. My last pair or rx sunglasses were hollering and while they were great I need something new. I would be interested to hear what you guys know.
  11. Man...If I hadnt just picked up the tournament for 80$ like new I would junp on that, but I needed a cheaper reel.
  12. I seem to be the minority, I use a 7' MH fast St. Croix Avid Spinning rod with a Quantum Smoke 30 reel with 15lb gamma torque braid.
  13. I like to eat a large breakfast as well, I just make sure to use the bathroom before I leave the cabin. then its just powerade, water, pop, and some sunflower seeds with the occasional bag of chips or something.
  14. Oh, I never meant that what you had suggested wouldnt keep you warm, just that disagreeing about the skiing. I think we can all agree its about the layers, and I was really surprised that no one suggested under armor. My cold gear compression shirt is the most amazing thing ever.
  15. I have 2 3731's I have a ton a plastics as well.
  16. The only thing I have done was to hollow out some and insert some lindy rig floats. I really like doing this for my carolina rig baits.
  17. I always store plastics in their original bags. and never mix them. that way you know what the label says is in the bag. when the bag gets low its time to reorder.
  18. I have to disagree. skiing is a moving sport. I would say dress like you're deer hunting in Minnesota in november. This is what I wear deer hunting Pants: Under armor long underwear (over my regular underwear) Duluth trading firehose work pants Nike track pants Blaze orange pants ( no real insulation ) Tops: Under armor Cold gear long sleeve shirt (compression gear) long sleeve t-shirt Fleece hooded sweatshirt (1 size larger than normal) Carhartt jacket (1 size larger than normal) Blaze orange jacket. (no real insulation) I also wear a full balaclava, under armor thin gloves under my thicker thinsulate 800gram gloves. I would swap out the blaze orange for rain gear to stay dry. Im really surprised no one has mentioned under armor at all. This is good enough for me to sit motionless in a tree stand in below zero weather all day. Side note: If your going over 20mph in your boat I would recommend a paintball mask. they're cheap and very effective at wind protection.
  19. booyah pad crasher and KVD sexy frog for hollow frogs and I really like the berkley kicker frog for soft plastics.
  20. I use 15#, 20#, and 30#. nothing heavier.
  21. and you should. I only drop the smaller fish. its more like a flip from 2 feet or so. but I flip them so they enter the water face first.
  22. I had a caius and a citica. the citica would bind from timie to time and the caius just felt sloppy. and while I know they are on the low end of the scale I just expected more. WOW. Thank you for that helpful and informative post. I will now go and rethink my entire life!! I will have to check them out too. Also I have been looking at the lew tournament speed spool. It as actually cheaper but has as many bearings and also has both brakes vs the bb1 which has only the centrifugal. anyone know why? I did notice that the line cap is smaller but they weigh the same-ish.
  23. I have been looking at getting another reel....ahhh, cabin fever, I am thy b*tch. I have no real brand loyalty as far as reels go, but I have been leaning towards centrifugal brakes as I find them more to my liking and have already decided to "try" a mag only reel when I bought the tatula. It will be on a Gander Mountain GSX tournament Medium fast rod and mainly used for poppers, topwater, and maybe some form of plastics. I am also looking on the cheaper end of the spectrum, meaning under 120$ish. The front runners in my search are the Lews BB-1 Speed spool (BB1SHZL), the Quantum Accurist PT (AC101HPTA), or the Abu Revo S. Now I know I said that I have no brand loyalty but I have not had good luck with shimano baitcasters (I love their spinning reels), nor have I liked phlueger. Some advice would be greatly appreciated. thanks in advance guys.
  24. I have the Smoke and its far and away the smoothest spinning reels I felt. I thought it was nicer than the daiwa ballistic and shimano saros. I would look at the new redesigned accurist, catalyst, or energy. Although I really love my smoke and feel spoiled by it most of my spinning reels are in the 40-70$ range. 3 - Daiwa laguna's 3 - Abu Orra S Daiwa Regal Shimano solstace
