  1. 7'3" Pinnacle Perfecta MH rod. 3/8 - 1 1/4oz lure rating. will handle almost anything.
  2. I have bought a 7'3" Pinnacle Perfecta MH rod and a Lews Tournament reel for jigs and C-rigs, and im going to use my spinning setup for spinnerbaits. So Now I'm looking at line, Im thinking 20lb InvisX. My lake is generally shallow weedbeds and ledges. My second thought is 40lb braid with 20lb leader. my question is, is there a sensitivity difference when using a leader? Im definitely concerned about strength as the weeds are THICK. but i really want sensitivity.
  3. Phlueger Endeavor baitcast combo! mag brakes fell apart and would birds nest all the time. It ended up at the bottom of round lake.
  4. I, personally, would take the lews tournmant speed spool or tournament pro over the MG. And for the rod I would say a Veritas or St Croix Premier. You have a large price range listed so there are ALOT of options. I, personally, use 1/8th-3/8oz for plastics and 1/2 - 3/4oz jigs so those aren't things that I combine on the same rod. You need to look at the lure ratings and find one that matches the weights you use for plastics and what size jigs you use.
  5. I have the 6'6"ML-F Triumph and the 7' M-F Triumph and the med-lite is lighter than the medium. The med-lite is my go to walleye rod, Great rod with enough sensitivity to feel light taps and enough power to fight a few 8lb pikes.
  6. I have a smoke pt30 & accurist pt30 spinning reel and imho they are the smoothest reels.
  7. welcome to the forum. i would still find some steel leaders of some sort if youre knowingly fishing for pike and musky. where about in MN are you fishing?
  8. I use 30lb braid with no leader. I just want to make sure I'm not losing my baits.
  9. Yes you can use braid without problems on spinning gear, i do. I really like my quantum spinning reels (Smoke pt 30 & Accurist pt30). As far as a rod goes I would recommend a Medium-lite Fast or a Medium Extra fast. You would want something pretty sensitive for these techniques like a St. Croix Avid or even a fenwick smallmouth rod.
  10. I currently only have spinning reels (Smoke pt30 & Accurist PT30) By FAR may favorite spinning reels! I didnt have the lsat gen Smoke baitcaster that I didnt like. DISCLAIMER: i bought it used and it wasnt as smooth as i thought a 200$ reel should be. and yes the smoke was the same as the Revo, Lews, and phlueger i have opened.
  11. Im fairly new to crankbaits but here is what I will be throwing this year Squarebill - SK KVD 1.5, Arashi 3-5 Lipless - SK Red Eye Shad, Koppers livetarget bluegill Jerkbait - Yo-zuri 3DB Topwater - Heddon Super Spook Jr., Damiki Dolphin Crankbait - SK 3XD, 5XD, 6XD, SK series 3,5,6, and Arashi 7
  12. I have had good luck with siebert, warbait swim jigs, outcast RTX jigs, and manns stone jig (this one has a flat nose so its kinda like a shakeyhead with a skirt). Jigs are going to depend on location, cover, water color/clarity, temperature, and time of day. j
  13. The only reason I would think maybe as well is that there was so much snow early in the year that the ice wasnt as thick as it could have been. its still a crap shoot with the weather though.
  14. I am selling my St Croix Avid MH-F and Revo STX. I will be buying a new combo. I already have a 7' MH-F Avid spinning that I mainly use for carolina rigs and some jigs which I just bought last fall. The casting combo Im selling did all that as well as spinnerbaits/buzzbaits So Now Im looking at a new casting setup for mainly spinnerbaits and buzz baits. Here's the question, Should I use the spinning setup for the spinner/buzzbaits and get a casting combo for jigs and carolina rigs? If i buy it for spinnerbaits which rods would some of you guys recommend for this application? The reason I'm selling the avid and revo is because this is the last right hand reel I have left and I feel the 6'6" is too stout whereas the 7' MH feels much better. Next question is now that I'm used to St Croix MH rods are others MH rods going to feel like my Medium rods? Thanks in advance for your recommendations guys.
  15. Lower end rods sometimes just call their rods "Medium Action" when they mean medium power and dont list the action. and some other lower end rods just dont make moderate actions. I would look at a rod that specifically says moderate action. It doesnt need to be 300$ but even the veritas is 80$ and worth it.
  16. I generally use offset shanks for thinks like worms, EWG for he thicker baits. the purpose of the EWG is to give the plastic someplace to go so that the hook has enough room to get the fish. size is all preference.
  17. I have 2 3771's and I find that they work great for all my hooks. and the hardbaits just go into a 3701.
  18. I grew up only using that knot. just didnt know any others and almost never had a problem.
  19. You want a Moderate action. Power is up to you and it depends on manufacturer. Look at the specs on the rod and find one that fits the size lures that you want to throw. a good place to start would be 1/4 - 3/4oz.
  20. I do the same thing. as it dries it leaves a layer of teflon behind. Not to hijack the thread but what do you guys look for in grease for the gears? I have many different types of grease already and want to know what you look for in reel grease.
  21. No one knows exactly what happened except the guide and the OP. that said I would still be a little upset at having to cover their end of the shipping. This is assuming its a "warranty claim" and not a "protection plan return". I might argue a bit with them about it but in the end i would do it. if its truly a defective rod and not user error that is a warranty claim and I would think that they can cover the shipping to replace the defective product that they sent you in the first place.
  22. I have 2 plano 3731's. they are the super deep bins. one is for worms and minnows/flukes, the other is for frogs and creature baits. All are still kept in the original packaging. I used to put them all straight in the tackle box but some got warm and fused to the tackle box. just one bad experience but this has never failed me since.
  23. well... I have 16 combos, 5 casters and 11 spinning rods. I like to just keep everything setup ahead of time. also Not everything i have is for bass. I have 3 poles for walleye, 2 bobbers and one for jigging, one for panfish, and one for muskie/pike. I really like plastics so I do have 3-4 setup for plastics at all time, different weights and hook sizes for different actions and types of baits. I could use one but thats like KVD having one crankbait setup.
  24. I just received my Veritas Winch med-mod crankbait rod. I havent used it yet but it feels nice. and its on the cheaper side and im ok with that since I dont need it to be really sensitive for crankbaits.
  25. Alpha Male replied to G8RBob's topic in Fishing Tackle
I like to use mostly 3/0 or 4/0 for most weighted T-rigs. I do have 1/0 thru 5/0 hooks on both EWG and offset hooks. and 3/0 thru 5/0 weighted owner twistlocks. every bait has a hook that it works best on. if youre going to go weightless I would use 1/0 thru 3/0 light wire hooks.
