  1. I have the Berkley hook scale and it's accurate. I have tested it with a digital postage scale and a scale we have at work for weighing Freon. It was the same weight as both the other scales.
  2. I am looking for 2 new pumps to replace my old ones. One doesn't work any longer and one leaks due to a crack in the outlet tube. All I can find are one that mount to the hull or transom. I don't want that. I am specifically looking for 500gph, 12 volts, single output, that just sits in the bilge area. Does anyone have any suggestions?
  3. I am a firm believer in "you get what you pay for" that said all bearing are not created equal. Whether you go with Boca, hawgtech, or the unknown brand from eBay recommended by floridafishinfool realise that you do get what you pay for. What kind of performance are you trying to achieve by getting New bearing?
  4. I was fishing last year with my wife who hunts and fishes almost as much as I do. She has no problem gutting a dear or pheasant. So anyway we have our limit of walleye and were looking for sunnies and crappies when she catches a medium sunnie, lifts it in the boat and as soon as she gets her hand around it she screams, "Oh My God, Ewww" and throws to fish back in the lake and shaking her hands off and then says,"its missing an eye,you have to unhook it for me!" I haven't let her live that one down for a while. The socket was still pink so I don't think it had been too long since it lost the eye.
  5. I have some eagle claw and can't say I have had a problem with them. And I find them everywhere and for far cheaper than all the others. I have no brand loyalty when it comes to hooks because I haven't been let down by any specific hooks. I have eagle claw for the cheap hooks, then Vmc, gamakatsu, and decoy hooks for the midrange and owner, Trokar, and daichii for the high end hooks. All work and haven't had to sharpen a hook in a while.
  6. I have both and fish both. They fish similar and yes chatterbaits are nearly weedless. I try to vary my retrieve speed but chatterbaits can be fished pretty slow. As long as you can feel the blade you're going fast enough. Some times I even hop it like I would a swim jig. Like a spinnerbait I also use a trailer either a spinnerbait trailer, a grub, or a craw.
  7. I use an 81 ranger 1600-v3 with an 80hp mercury. Runs like a champ. This one already has 2 livewells so I didn't need to worry there but like you I can't fit nearly any of my rods in the rod locker as I use mostly 7' rods. I have a minnkota powerdrive v2 with us and a lowrance elite 7 upfront and an elite 4 on the console. I am immensely happy with the boat and if I could afford it I would have a bigger boat but that said for 2 people it fishes comfortably. I can under the right conditions get it up to 41mph but usually get 36mph. I don't think you would be unhappy with 16' but if you're thinking of modifications before you buy it the like others have said it may not be the best fit for you. Keep looking and you will find what you want. And good luck
  8. 20 gauge single shot and a H&K USP.40
  9. I think bass are predators. They will strike anything then perceive as edible. That said I believe that a rage craw on a shakeyhead is life like enough to get them to strike it. Remember they have no way to feel it other than putting it in their mouth. And as predators they will eat something even if they aren't hungry just to prevent another fish from getting it. I have a 75 gallon fish tank at home with African cichlids in it and it is fun to feed them guppies or small crickets. On occation I put in some bright red plastic crickets in that I use for crappies. They will eat it and spit it out 3-5 times before they give up.
  10. Not dissuade you but I have the 2.0 because my original veritas lost the tip guide insert. As it was they were easy to deal with and for the cost of shipping I had a brand new 2.0. On a side note I also had a pinnacle rod tip break and they were even better to deal with. Awsome cs from them. They just asked me to ship the part of the rod back with the specs written on it so they knew it wasn't a scam. Just thought it was worth mentioning.
  11. One thing I do on some cheaper reels that substitute sleeve bearing for regular bearings is use tri-flow. Its a Teflon impregnated oil that gets thicker as it dries and leaves behind a layer Teflon. Matter of fact I use triflow on all parts of the levelwind system of all my reels except the actual wormgear and pawl. I use oil in spool bearing and some Dow 33 grease on the gears and the part of the thumbbar that activates the freespool. I use Dow 33 grease because it's what I have around for my paintball gear.
  12. I have the veritas 2.0 winch medium power and I love it. It casts really well. I do notice that the deep divers over power the action a bit but it handles shallow squarebills and 5/8 oz medium divers 6-worth really well. If you want it for deeper I would suggest the med-hvy version.
  13. No I do not. And I store it on it's side in my tackle bag.
  14. any name brand should be good. I have Owner, trokar, Gamakatsu, VMC, Eagle Claw, and daiichi, mustad, and decoy. I have not ben disappointed by any of them. (the decoy hooks are new to me as they were on sale at TW)
  15. Plano 3771. I love it too. I got it at tackle warehouse. This is the 1 3/8" thick box. They also have a 2" thick box that's the 3770 and a smaller 3670. Its great to have that much customizability.
  16. Rule #9 - Never go anywhere without a knife Always a knife, whether is a benchmade, or a zero tolerance, or even a lowly gerber.
  17. I fish a lot of plastics as well. I try too keep all sizes of both the EWG and offset hooks. I have to say that I use the 4/0 EWG the most. the first row are the offset 1/0 to 5/0 the second row are the EWG 1/0 to 5/0 above that are the twistlock and weighted hooks then above those are the dropshot and shakeyhead hooks and the last row are my trailer and treble hooks. I have more hooks coming from tackle warehouse so I will be re-arranging them again. and these are just the hooks for my plastics. I have no brand loyalty as far as hooks go. Some are trokar, eagle claw, gamakatsu, owner, VMC, and I have a bunch of decoy hooks (on sale at ***) coming. Also keep in mind that the red hooks are not that bright its a trick if the camera.
  18. I have 3 cabelas within 45 miles from my house and the first 2 are huge. 2 stories with a cafe and fish tanks and a mountain with animals. I dont know the sq ft of any of them but the newest one is much smaller but still at the very least the size of a gander mountain. EDIT: the rogers location is 185k, the owatonna one is 150k, and the new woodbury one is 85k.
  19. This is probably the best response i've seen. I will add that I generally find a reel that I like and look for it on sale from somewhere and I will get the cheaper one as I dont find any of the specs, whether it be weight, IPT, or line capacity to be very different.
  20. up here in minnesota we may not have the same size of fish that some of you enjoy (state record LMB is 8lb 15oz. and the SMB is 8 even caught back in 1946) but they dont call us the land of 10,000 lakes for nothing. I know that around me you cant go 300 yards without hitting a lake. its a boat all day long.
  21. I have a minnkota powerdrive v2 and the plug in the console sticks out 4+" and I want one the is either flush or close to it. The console plate is removable and is replaceable as well so I have a lot of flexibility there. Just looking for suggestions. Thanks
  22. I fish out of a 1981 ranger with the original 80hp mercury. Still going strong.
  23. I read an article when I was deciding between the two rods that said that the scIV graphite was a great advancement in graphite over a lot of other "strains" if I can find it I will link it. And no the article was not from st Croix.
