What's Your Cranking Rod?
I like my veritas. I feel that crankbait and spinnerbait rods can be cheaper than my T-rig, jigs, and frog rods.

Soft Plastic Texas Rigging Rods?
Im curious "how" you were missing them? did you set the hook and they came off later? did you miss setting the hook while they had it in their mouth? If your missing the set I would say that maybe your medium rod may not be as sensitive as your rod or maybe you're not used to it. I choose to fish all my plastics on medium rods, both casting and spinning. I can say that the power of your rod isnt the problem. whether you're not noticing the bite in time or the stretch is getting you is you're call. Im curious what brand/model are the rods you're talking about. but to answer your question I would look at a veritas, St. Croix rod, or even a pinnacle if you can afford it.

Soft Plastic Frog Help
I fish a berkley kicker frog with a 4/0 EWG hook with a 1/4 - 3/8oz weight on 20-40lb braid. Sometimes I let it fall to the . ttom and hop it low along the bottom (4-8 ft of water) and sometimes I will put it on my flippin stick and hop it along the surface. And sometimes I try to keep it in the middle of the water column and let it fall slowly with a lighter weight. Very versatile little bait. I like hollow body frogs too but I think everyone should have themselves some soft plastic frogs

St Croix Tip Heavy?
I have a 7' avid and 7' ltb and neither is too tip heavy. They are so light in my opinion that it doesnt take any effort to raise the tip.

Beginner Needs Help With Setups
I would look into the stcroix avid series rods, pinnacle perfecta series, and also fenwick rods. As far as reels I would suggest a revo stx, bps pro qualifier, and I would say upgrade from the lews speedspool to a bb1 or a tournament speedspool or even a tournament pro if you still want to stick with the lews brand. I dont know how you fish but I like to throw my topwater/jerkbaits with a medium power rod.

Since Were Discussing Rods And The Selection Of Rods For....
I technically own 2 "technique specific" rods, 3 if you count a veritas winch rod a crankbait rod. I didnt but either of the other, St. Croix LTB "Plastics" or my Pinnacle Perfecta "Carolina rig" rod because I wanted to use them for those techniques. The St. Croix will be used mostly for plastics but I went looking for a 7' Medium Fast action rod and thats what I found. the perfecta will be mostly used for jigs, heavy crankbaits, and one of two rods that will be used for the carolina rig. I think that the companies that come out with the TS rods do so because that is what "most" people are using for that type of fishing. that shouldnt deter you from technique specific rods. You guys that know what your doing should just look past the name on the rods and still just look at the power and action.

New Boat Elecronics.
I do understand that and its a minor setback as I usually use just sonar and gps while fishing, but I really like downscan when moving around to look for structure. thank you for your replies.

New Boat Elecronics.
So heres the situation. My father-in-law needs some new fishfinders.he prefers lowrance and He wants to get 2, one for the trolling motor and one for the dash. He has a minnkota powerdrive with us2 (universal sonar)So heres the question; what would you do? He would prefer the bigger unit on the trolling motor and the smaller on the on the dash for navigating. Hes not on a budget but needs it to be simple to use and doesnt want to get into all the gizmos. So I am just ruling out the hds series. I am thinking about the elite7 on the bow and the elite 4-5 on the dash but is it worth it to still get something with downscan for the bow? If you had to choose between sonar and downscan what would you pick? I have just recently convinced him the gps in a fishfinder is a must so I would like some input as far as what you look for.

Just Bought An Avid. Any Feedback?
I have a 7' MHF and I think is great. I have not had any problems with the guides. Its a big step up and you will be happy. I dont know that I would use it for wacky fishing but I use mine for spinnerbaits, jigs, and even som caroline rigs.

Spinning Rod Question
I love my St. Croix rods but I find that the fenwick spinning rods are far more comfortable. if you really want St. Croix they are still great rods and also comfortable, I just think fenwick are a bit nicer.
-
Best Length Dropshot Rod
I have a fenwick 6'9" medium-Xfast tip. I cant imagine that a couple inches would make that big of a difference.
-
St Croix Premeir And Pflueger President Combo Opinions
I have no brand loyalty but do have 5, more than any other company, St Croix rods and like them all from the triumph to the LTB. But as far as spinning rods go I dont think that fenwick can be matched. great rod with, in my opinion, the BEST reel seat ever made. very comfortable.

Fillet Knife Questions
This is a good idea. And yes the one in your kitchen will work just fine, though if you can swing it a nice ceramic one would be better.
