  1. Hey guys I appreciate all the suggestions. I went ahead and ordered this combo off of Gander, it is on back-order. Seemed like a good deal for the price. Let me know your thoughts. I may kick myself for not getting Abu Veritas but we will see. Would you guys use this combo for other applications other than frogging? http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=GSX-Elite-Low-Profile-Casting-Combo-7-Medium-Heavy&i=711343 ROD: http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=GSX-Elite-Baitcaster-Rod-GSXE66C-MH1-13-66-Med-Heavy&i=724927 REEL: http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=GSX-Elite-Low-Profile-Casting-Reel&i=711349
  2. Another option I went over in the flyer was this: http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?i=711343 I will more than likely getting another $50 gift card as a gift putting my budget up to $125 + $25 or so of my own money looking at $150. So many options I cannot make up my mind; probably now get Abu/Lew's of some sort...
  3. I think I am going to try the Skeet Reese with reel trade in and get 7' heavy action rod $40-$60 in store and see what they have. What other uses(other than frogging) would you use the 7:1:1 gear ratio and heavier action rod? Thanks
  4. That does help. I am looking for decent rod/reel that has good enough backbone for frogging and possibly pitching/flipping jigs. And it has to be from Gander Mountain as that is where my gift card is...
  5. Thanks that helps. I fish Largemouth in North Western WI
  6. I have $75 gift card to Gander Mountain and was thinking I would buy a new casting combo for frogging and maybe for flipping and pitching jigs. I don't have the money to spend much more maybe a grand total of $125(so $50 on top of the gift card). I saw this Abu Combo for their spring sale and was wondering if it would be okay for what I need? It is 7" MH with SilverMax 6:4:1 Any suggestions? I like Lew's, Abu Garcia, and Saint Croix. appreciate the help. http://www.gandermountain.com/modperl/product/details.cgi?pdesc=Abu-Garcia-Silver-MAX-Rod-Reel-Combo-SMAX2/701MH&i=449517&r=view&from=grid
  7. I was wondering if anyone could give me the general timelines of Wisconsin bass pre-spawn, spawn and post pawn. Also what your techniques are during these times in WI lakes. I understand this year may be a little different with one of the coldest winters in 30 years. Thanks in advance.
  8. Thanks, I will check it out.
  9. Does anyone know if and when Gander Mountain will their big spring fishing sale? Is there a certain time before the opener where they have a large fishing sale? Thanks
  10. I just picked up some BPS Sinker Pegs for around $2. By the way they have free shipping this entire month on their site. I was wondering what baits and situations that you tend to peg your bullet weight? I understand more commonly when fishing thick cover and need to punch through. But is there other times you want a pegged sinker? Thanks
  11. Hey Guys, I got a GoPro Hero 3+. I was wondering if anyone has used one for fishing, how they used them and what adapters they recommend. I figure it will be getting the head mount and chest mount, it came with the water-proof housing. I am excited to start capturing the fish I catch and documenting each one.
  12. Thanks for the help. I will be using braid for the first time this spring and I am getting hung up on the fluoro leader/no leader and visibility debate. But it looks like most people fish wacky with straight fluoro anyway. I might try to wacky rig and texas rig fish on 30lb PowerPro Moss Green, if I dont have luck I guess I will have to tie on a leader.
  13. Does anyone know retail stores (Dicks,Scheels,Gander Mountain, Farm and Fleet) etc. Where you can find fishing Apparel for the major brands such as: Abu Garcia, Berkley, St Croix, Gary Yamamotto, Lew's, Pfleuger. Looking for t-shirts, hats, sweatshirts.. I am wondering if there are any good stores to purchase in store, versus buying online and paying shipping fee. Thanks
  14. What set up do you guys prefer for Wacky Rigged Senkos? Rod type and line type? Thanks
  15. I got these two 3/8 oz Swim Jigs for a steal on eBay. They are made by Custom Bait Co. One is the blue gill color the other is yellow perch. Any suggestion on color and trailer for the yellow perch? Thanks!
  16. I agree 100%. I am originally from Madison, WI area. So I grew up fishing Wisconsin River near the Sauk Prairie Dam and then more west towards Arena/Spring Green. I have personally seen people keep every fish caught (some probably not legal) at the dam, I didnt do anything as I feel they will get caught eventually.
  17. What color have you had the most success with? Do you use braid or flourocarbon. What rig do you usually throw the swim jig with; rod/reel?
  18. Yes that does help. Thank you.
  19. I too will be fishing swim jig for the first time this spring. I have been reading and watching videos. Currently I have SK Pro Jig blk/blu, Outkast Jig bold gill and All Terrain shiner. All 1/4oz to start. Will be using grubs, craws and swimbaits for trailers 3"-5". Black/blue seems to be popular color and then 30lb braid or higher possibly a flouro line on 6'6" or 7' setup. I cannot wait to try them out. Good luck.
  20. With the Menace or twin tail grub trailer for a swim jig, do you rig it parallel with the hook or perpendicular like you would with a craw? I read when using single tail grub tail down..need some help. Thanks
  21. Would I need to use gamakatsu superline hooks when fishing with Braid? Or will the regular EWG hooks work while Texas Rig fishing with braided line? Thanks
  22. This is a good scale. I just started bass fishing last summer and caught plently of 1-3lbs some 3-4lbs and my PB on a smaller lake in Baron County weighing over 5lbs, we didnt have a scale/tape at the time. There are big LMB in northern WI just have to find them, and as most of said most anglers target Muskie, Northern, and Walleye which gives bass fisherman more oppurtunity to land a big one.
  23. Ha..I am lucky to cast my baitcaaster 10 yards..so that shouldnt be a problem. I have a braid spinning spool and looked that its rated for 85 yds/30lbs. I am new to baitcasters and I guess I was wondering how much line typically goes on them.
  24. If I got the 30lb power pro, I think its 150 yds per spool. Could I spool a bait-caster and my spinning reel with one spool? I was going to put 17 lb mono on my bait-caster and decided after reading to use braid on both. Thanks
  25. Awesome I will. Would it work on a swim jig too, or do you think its too big. I was thinking black/blue swim jig.
