You don't need to fly fish to catch trout. In fact, fly fishing is often less effective than lure fishing or bait fish. Where it's legal, I would drift a nightcrawler piece on 6 pound test along the bottom of streams. Panther Martins in size 6 are great as well, as are countdown rapalas in rainbow trout, brown trout, or brighter colors if the water is murky. Fly fishing works best sometimes, though bait fishing will almost always outfish it. Much of the time, lures do outproduce flies.

Anyone here use the original snag proof frog with the real legs? It doesn't have much action and is pretty stiff, but I have a friend who just consistantly bags 4 - 8 pounders on them.

Good ideas guys. Do you have any trouble with your jigs picking up weeds when you swim them back through early weedgrowth?

Good ideas guys, I will give them a shot. I slide the pork frog clear up to the top of the hook right under the jighead, and it slides down toward the hook gap. But these things might prevent that.

I like the spro bronze eye frogs, the bronze eye popper, the scumfrog popper, and the bigfoot frog.

I use them as soon as their are emergent weeds growing onto the surface.

Baby bass, natural baitfish hues, pumpkin, watermelon, or smoke. Just get colors that match the common forage.

Senkos, flukes, tubes, worms, pretty much any plastic. I also like skirted jigs and spinnerbaits for dock work.

How do you guys retrieve your jigs? Do you just a lift fall or slowly swim them in on the bottom. Also, if your flipping to cover, do you reel in your jig quickly for another flip once it leaves the other?

How do you guys get your pork frogs to stay in place on your jigs? I'm using Uncle Josh #11 pork frogs.

They rock. The bigger models are some of the best flippin' tubes around, while the 3.5" model is great for more mainstream tube applications.

I use EWG for all plastics pretty much, though a regular offset is good for smaller worms.

I would generally use flipping jigs for flipping, and finesse jigs for sparser cover. However one company does make a finesse flipping jig, which is a smaller jig with a heavier gage hook.

Now if I'm using a popping frog like the spro bronzeye popper or the scumfrog popper, go with straight mono because braid ruins popping actions. Regular old frogs are the only topwaters I will throw on braid. Go with 17 - 20 pound mono. It might be harder to pull a big bass out of the slop with that, but it can be done.

Go with a baitcaster spooled with 30 pound power pro. Use a 20 pound clear mono leader. A fast ratio reel like the others said is helpful. I would use a 6'6" medium heavy rod with a fast action. If the cover is really heavy and bass over 5 - 6 pounds are pretty common, you can go with heavier braid than 30 pound.

Either a creme white senko or a firetiger or perch colored X - Rap.

I use them for smaller worms like a 4" Power Worm, and on soft jerks or senkos when I'm fishing them really deep.

I use the 78 most of the time but the 100 is good when they are bit deeper. Anyone like using the pointer dd for bass?

White, chartreuse, chartreuse white, pumpkin, black, and also natural preyfish (especially bluegill) colors.

They are probably post spawn now, so I would look for rocky riprap just outside of shallow locations. Once they settle in for summer, they will follow the shad around more, being shallow early and deep in the day.

I like to catch bass on a variety of baits best. Topwater are my favorite though and I know most would say that too.

My dad has caught lots of bass on the BPS worms.

They work well, and I like their molopo scent. I prefer senkos though.
