Abu Veritas, 7' MH, is a great jig stick for $100. I like the Micro Guide series the best.

If you want to throw small topwaters on your spinning setup as well as everything else, go with Original Stren mono or McCoy Mean Green. Otherwise, P line 100% fluoro or the new Tactical Fluoro are your best bet.

I'm going to try more Ned Rigging at another lake this year, water clarity permitting. Do you guys get tons of snags when fishing over rip rap rocks?

Quantum Team KVD Cranking Rods ($80), and the *** Defy Black Crankin' Rod ($60) would be good options.

A good starter jig set up would be a 7', MH casting rod, a decent reel with a 7:1 gear ratio, and 15 to 17 pound fluorocarbon to start with. I like the Veritas Series a LOT! As for a reel, the BPS Pro Qualifier is great for $100 as is the Lew's Speed Spool. The Shimano Casitas is a step up, and if you can afford it, the Curado is amazing.

Happens to me a lot too. Skipping isn't that easy to learn, it takes A LOT of practice.

I just bought a supreme this winter, haven't used it yet but it will join seven Presidents in my repertoire.

The new braking system for the Citicas and Curados calls for a little oil on the brake pipe primarily to keep the reel from making a screeching sound during the cast, from what I know.

When did they change the President? I have only had one issue with one so far, and I have seven of them. Just give it an annual cleaning and lube (less is more for oil and grease), and it will last a very long time.

I still like a zoom lizard better than anything else.

I'm skipping Live Target and Pad Crasher Frogs. The popping models don't skip as well.

I'm going to buy several of most of the models.

Black blue is a very good one, as is black chartreuse, junebug, or black/blue/purple. A rattling jig and a thumping, active trailer like a rage chunk is a help as well so the bass can more easily find the jig.

I've found a hollow body frog to be a little easier to skip than a jig so far, but it's the exact same motion.

I will call any litter bug out! Few things drive me more crazy, only the unethical or illegal harvest of fish is worse to me.

I'd go with a finesse carolina rig with a zoom centipede, or a Ned Rig.

I think they are worth a try, but I doubt they will produce like a Huddleston.

For most cranking, use a 5:1 ratio. You can use a 6:1 for shallow cranks though. I'm like you in that regard, I'm not into this faster reel revolution. I wish they would still make some lower 5 ratio reels, though a 5.5:1 or 5.6:1 doesn't seem to be too fast.

I generally go with a 1/4 ounce jig in 15 feet of water or less unless the wind is blowing good, then I'll bump up to a 3/8. Anything over the low 20s I'm almost always using a 1/2 ounce or heavier. Keep in mind this is just a general rule. At times fish want a fast fall, so go with a heavier jig. Heavier line will slow the fall as well, so you may have to up size.

Wow, as long as you're using a faster reel and heavy enough line, most buzzbaits should plane within 5 feet or less. Try using them in low light periods and cloudy weather whenever the water is in the mid 60s or higher, and you'll start getting smoked on them. See just what I said above.

Navigable rivers (rivers that can float craft) are public domain below the high water mark, including stream bottoms and land below said high water mark, under federal law. However my state does not follow federal law, and allows landowners to think they own the river bottom and bank below a high water mark and call those who fish there "trespassers" even though under federal law it is public, so it's false trespass. The state law is null and void in this case, but Colorado doesn't enforce this. Some states don't obey the law. I've told several land owners to screw off but I don't tempt fate because of the corruption in my state allowing landowners to break the law.
