I just bought a new boat, and the trim was working just fine on the motor. Anyway, we had a couple of really cold nights, and now the trim isn't working. I can hear it faintly when I press up or down, but it's not moving the motor at all or working. I had the motor covered with the boat cover while it was cold. So could anyone tell me what's going on?

I just bought an 89 Nitro with a 1997 Johnson Faststrike 175. I noticed on the throttle stick, there is no button on the side that you push to keep the motor from going in gear when you are revving it up into fast idle to give it gas when you first start it at the dock. Most boats have that button. Mine doesn't have a fast idle lever either on top. So how am I going to move the throttle forward to keep it from going into gear and jumping off the trailer? I noticed that if you pull the throttle stick OUT toward you a bit, the stick will disengage and you can move it up and down. So do I just pull the throttle out without pressing the red shifting button? Sorry if it's a dumb question, I'm just a newbie with bass boats and I don't want to damage it.

Just depends on the cover. For more sparse cover, 10 or 12 pound test mono or fluoro is great. If it's thicker cover I would use 14 to 17 pound.

Glass or composite rod for all treble hook baits and any fast bait like a spinnerbait or buzzbait. The only exception is a hard jerkbait, for which I use a medium action, fast action graphite.

It was much needed for sure, all this precip. Fish will be on fire when the lakes open again and are at a manageable level.

The others offered good advice. Cold, muddy water is one of the toughest conditions, but a lure fished slow and VERY tight to the cover should still get bit. I'd go with a rattling, blue black jig and a thumping trailer. Squarebills fished slowly and a slow rolled black spinnerbait should be tried as well. My favorite crank for this situation is a Norman Fat Boy or Rapala DT Fat. Try a gold or black bladed double Colorado with a black skirt.

It's a '98. Would I be able to get manuals for the motor and boat by calling the respective companies? I can't find the fast strike specifically listed on this page, but I have the model number and serial number so hopefully I can find one by calling.

The Veritas Frog rod for $100 bucks is tough to beat.

Sunline Sniper is decent line, but the abrasion resistance cranking rocks is not great.

They do catch fish, and are sometimes better than a standard crank when you don't have much cover to deflect off of. By no means a game changer though.

Yes you can use mend it with Z Man baits, it just doesn't work nearly as well as with standard soft baits.

You pretty much have to let the bass tell you what they want retrieve wise. I mostly use a stop and go retrieve with a twitch thrown in here and there, or a yo yo type retrieve. In warm water for active fish, burning it works really well. I use primarily the 1/4 ounce and 1/2 ounce sizes. Green Gizzard Shad, Chrome Black, Chili Craw, Bluegill, Firetiger, and Chartreuse Sexy Shad are my go to colors.

I've used it, it seems to still be pretty visible underwater in clear conditions. It is a strong line but sometimes doesn't hold it's knot strength very well after a couple fish. It also has a lot of memory. So it has pros and cons that pretty much cancel each other out.
