Good article. Fairly scientific. It seems to support my conclusions/assumptions made after reading many debates here on BR. Congrats....hope you love it...I've no doubt its a great rod, but I'd bet that despite your protestations about funds and space, you'll be shopping for another rod before long. I have my doubts that the Mojo will excel for jigs and spinnerbaits. When you start shopping for that MH, I don't think you can go wrong with any of the rods discussed. I have one Mojo, but its glass and I can't tell you anything about their MH's. I also have Dobyns and Daiwas, but none in MHF. I have the ETSM in a number of ratings, including the MHF. As mentioned above, the handle is fairly short; but I prefer short handles since most of my fishing is from a kayak and the shorter handles are better for me when in a yak. It is a very sensitive rod, but I feel it fishes a little slower and lighter than rated....I believe its rated to 1oz, but that'd be more than I want to throw with it. Great for jigs to 1/2oz, spinnerbaits, trig, etc

Nope. But considering the Peak Rock/Lews acquisition was all of one year ago, it might be a little bit early to find such evidence, even if it exists.

It's a reasonable concern....quality and price. It's not as though the acquisition was by an outdoor enthusiast with a passion for sportsman and our pursuits. Peak Rock Capital and MidCap Financial aren't likely to be operations that care deeply about fishing products, fisherman, or anything other than making money. And that's ok, as long as their objectives support ours, we're all good. Hopefully, the need to stay competitive and please shareholders will be accomplished by continuing to create quality with price reasonableness. But, I don't think for a second that they will hesitate to eventually cut corners or raise prices if it means greater profits. I have to believe that profits are greater, at least in the short/medium run, when big companies cater to consumers more interested in price than other qualities that some of us might value more (quality, workmanship, durability, effectiveness, etc.) I will remain hopeful....for the time being

The most important thing that I was looking for was to get one that is truly waterproof. I had a number of decent headlamps, but had trouble with them after a while due to water intrusion. I keep mine in my kayak crate when not in use, so its generally exposed. I've used this one all year and been very satisfied...especially for the price. Not too far from here, but I don't recall having heard of it. VDGIF website claims there's good fish in there. Let us know how you do there.

Stop back and let us know how that Veritas works for you and what you're able to use it for...just curious. I still use mine after giving it only a haircut of only about an inch and a half. It WAS a 7'MH....now it's a 6'10.5" H. Works well for WPloppers and magnum spinnerbaits; and OK for heavy jigs, but not a lot else....I'm guessing that if it had to be trimmed five or six inches, it would be best used as a lure retriever or stake-out pole.

Something greenish/brownish....and something blackish/bluish....be happy seriously, though, get a hold of Mike and he will help....but, my advice is to try a couple different line ties and weights in above colors...the rest of the nuances just don't matter as much as comfort/confidence/ease of use for your conditions (grass, rock, wood, etc.)

I, too, am a fan. I will confirm rumors that cutting line other than braid can dull it over time. I'm talking years, however, and that's acceptable to most; as that is longer than most cutters will last. I have been able to squeeze an extra couple years out of mine by cutting braid way to the inside of the snip, and cutting fluoro, YZH, mono by keeping the line more towards the points.

the Lews that I listed above is from a place called SportsmansOutfitters. They aren't a private dude in his underwear reselling counterfeit broken junk. They use ebay as a storefront. They also have a web site that you can buy from if you feel more comfortable. I've bought from them multiple times and you can rest assured that it is as solid a source as going into your local brick and mortar store.

I don't know guys...seems there has always been a 'range' of prices for baits. I have a couple of lures still in boxes from my father and grandfather that, when adjusted for inflation, blow away LC stuff. Creek chubs, Bass O' Reno's, even jitterbugs...$5, $6, $7...for lures bought in the 60's and 70's....makes me laugh to wonder if my grandmother and mother knew what they cost....lol A Pikie Minnow cost 1.20 in 1945. I assume that's gottta be a lot more than a Rapala @ today's prices.

I have a number of Tatula Type R's. If you get one in your price range, jump on it. Well worth more . IIRC, I paid between $110 and $125 for each of mine and have zero buyer's remorse.

Interesting. I went from nearly 100% Yo Zuri Hybrid a few years ago, to mostly braid now. I'm still adjusting and weighing cost/benefits of various lines/presentations. Today, I use YZH with (KVD spray) on my 'cranking' rods. I use Gliss 12#, with or without leader, on my lighter spinning outfts. I use braid (generally braid/leader) on everything else; primarily 20#-50#. I have never even tried higher end (expensive) flouro. I've put Tatsu in online shopping carts on many occasions and just couldn't pull the trigger. I don't have zebra mussels, and braid and Gliss have been plenty abrasion resistant for my applications. I don't always love using leaders, but the positives have outweighed the negatives thus far.
