Many years ago, I used to put desiccant packs in tackle boxes. But, I haven't had much problem with rust the past few years. Seems nearly everything I use nowadays must be stainless or surgical steel...I don't worry about rust at all any more.

Every time I launch before dawn, or return after sunset, I'm reminded of my father....was nearly 50 years ago on every hunting trip when I was young, that he drilled into me...over and over....that nothing is set down anywhere between the boat and the truck in the dark...ever. So, while I've had some brain-dead rod incidents...and tipped my kayak in a swift river....I've never run over any gear

Lunga is closed indefinitely, unfortunately. They closed it a few years ago to remove unexploded ordnance. Funding for that project never materialized and there's none in sight. You can get a permit at the Mx. I've fished a little but, don't have a lot of insight for you. You can put a kayak in on Chopawamsic Creek, and a yak or canoe on Breckenridge. Not sure if you actually put a craft on any of the other waters. I set out to find a couple other ponds one day, but got hopelessly lost.

It has been some time since I shopped/bought sonar, but I always thought prices were pretty well rigged. You might get something thrown in during a sale week, like a ram mount, or charts or something....but I always had a strong sense that there was forced min pricing...or collusion...or whatever, but a $299 unit was NEVER available anywhere for even $298...in my limited experience, anyway

Thanks for the input. I have tried a couple/few different rods and settled on MF spinning. That one was spooled with 12# Gliss and it is possible there was just not enough 'give'. Getting the rod length/action right, not to mention line, that will afford effective castability and hook up/play for these light lures has been a bit of a challenge, I guess. I've got a couple other slower rods that I need to break out and try again. Most of my spinning work is with single hooks and I've grown to love fast (or XF)/Gliss for confident hooking.

I always eat before I go out....and take a couple granola bars along....and usually they are the same couple that I took previous time out, because I forget to eat most of the time. As long as I have 2-3 bottles of water, I'm good.

I haven't paddled one, but if I was back in the market for a sub 60# fishing yak, I'd be wanting test drive a Vibe 100. Looks a LOT more comfortable than my wildy

I have a Lowrance Hook 4X on my kayak, but there are few days that I don't wish I had GPS AND side scan. But, as a solid downscan unit for two bills, it is a good buy.

was a time that I thought that....I was wrong. What's your budget? What sort of boat? Do you need/want side imaging?

First year with Gliss 12 and 18 on spinning gear and I love it. Is it possible for a line to be too thin and too smooth? Castability and sensitivity of braid aren't even very close. I haven't had any issues with wear or feathering that I've read about. My only complaint is that I bought all spools of moss green and and it is invisible. I use leaders anyway, so my next spool will be hi-viz.

Don't let those excuses get to you. Life's too short to worry about others. Took me a long to time learn....hard to do. My solution is to fish alone I do fish with my wife, however, but my mission when she's in the boat is primarily to put her on fish. She doesn't make excuses ever.

I love my Tarpon 100. Fish from it a couple times a week. Six hours without getting out to stretch is my limit. It pretty much stays on the car from Easter to Thanksgiving. Definitely not a standing platform, but that hasn't been an issue for me. The tracks are perfect; the back well holds standard crate; the storage is fine for day trips. I added a single anchor trolley and sonar with little trouble, even though I'm not particularly handy. Mine was marketed as 'fishing model', but it wasn't any different than any other, except that it came with a ball-mount rod holder and a yak-attack vizipole. Total weight was a concern for me and I wouldn't want one much heavier. I only use a cart for carrying more than about 20 yards and taking it around back of the house and storing. Otherwise it goes on and off a full size SUV with relative ease. I bought mine new in January a few years ago and paid half what it would have cost in the summer.

I fish from a Wildy Tarpon 100. The back offers enough support (esp with PFD on), but the bottom is pretty bad. This year, I've been tossing a throwable boat cushion on there and it made a world of difference.

Cabelas has had Smokes on sale the last week plus...maybe still. I ordered my third and fourth Smoke 100's. At $114, they are a steal. I have mostly Tatulas (R's and others), but the Smoke 100's blow them away --- I realize they're in different MSRP neighborhoods, but the Smokes were all similarly priced (or cheaper.) May be that they need to slash prices at times because they don't have the same cache...IDK...disclaimer....never held the S3, but I'll vouch for the 100 all day

Been trying some smaller jerk baits lately with less than awesome results; I've been throwing size 80 and smaller, though I've little previous experience. These get hammered, but I rarely hook up and don't think I've landed a bass larger than one pound. Now, I did land a cat yesterday on a Jackall Squadminnow 80, so that may be a lot of the strikes I'm missing, but I want to believe that some are big bass. I've tried different rods and different lines, softer sweeps, harder sweeps....but I'm about done....rather frustrating.

That 'coming in early' part....I can't even begin to understand....I don't fish tournaments, but I don't come in early...unless there's lightening and/or gale force winds

Funny, @Brett's_daddy...I was just talking to someone the other day about using noodles for her cartop rack. Turns out that stores around here haven't had noodles out for over a six weeks....despite the protracted 80degree summer weather. Must be some sort of retail law about hiding them after Labor Day.

I'm glad to hear that they are taking care of you. Sure seems to be a lot of broken rods around here. Glad manufacturers are backing them up. I know that I, for one, went forty years without breaking a rod....I've now broken four in the last couple years; two brand new ones. I gotta wonder if overall quality is down...or are sacrifices for sensitivity and weight so great as to create fragile rods...or maybe just me and my perception....I will admit that some of those unbroken rods of my past were steel ...or 1/4" diameter uglysticks, lol....but not all of them.

I bought a special rod holder. Was a little pricey, but well worth it. It has some secondary uses/benefits, as well. It's made by Dodge....Durango is the model.
