I dont use a spinning rod, and I prefer a texas rig to a splitshot, but that is how I caught my 13lb 1 oz PB.

I would say that somewhere around oh, 1 in 200 of my jig bites comes on the "initial fall". Of course I almost only fish football heads on deep structure, with little to no cover. But, given the steepness of some of what I fish. I take rate of fall into account much of the time. How fast the jig falls off of a deep ledge, or even after popping it up off the bottom with the rod can be critical. Sometimes, how fast the jig SLIDES down large rocks can be the difference. My all time favorite jig bite is a 1oz football head in 5-20ft in the darkness. Pop it hard off the bottom a couple feet, they eat it on the fall, on a tightline. Lots of fun. For my money, I think the hook is most important, and not for the sarcastic reason others have said. I will compromise on any of the other three elements, as long as I have the hook I like. I will not tolerate a bad jig hook.

We had a tyrant for a coach when I was a sophomore. Basketball, not football. But we would do 2 a days on school days, for up to 5 hours a day. That wasnt even allowed in Colorado.All we did was condition, and we sucked anyway. Half of the team quit, the rest of us got him fired. You can get ran hard by a good coach, and you can get ran hard by a bad coach. If yours is a good coach, that wants you in shape, sack up, challenge yourself to get through it and deal with the pain. If hes not a good coach and thinks that screaming, being a ******, and running you into the ground is coaching, then that sucks.

I run 10lb Sufix to whatever lb test Sunline Sniper is appropriate for the situation.

I get all my jigs from Mike. What makes them the best? I get the exact colors I want. The exact hook I want. They are inexpensive, show up fast, and hold up.

I hunted more than I fished when I lived in Colorado. Elk, Deer, Ducks, Geese, Doves, Grouse, Coyotes, and lots and lots of Jacks and Cottontails . I estimate that one of my 10/22's has put down over 4,000 prairie dogs. That is the funnest critter to shoot. I liked the old red box Federals too. Since I moved out here though, all I have done is chase Turkeys. Got one with a gun when I first moved, and have spent a fall and spring season unsuccessfully trying with a bow.
