Got out twice over the weekend. First on Saturday morning, it was tough until the rain started. Thankfully I keep a rainjacket in the boat, bc the LMB's were just destroying a LC gunfish once the rain started. Half of the fish caught hit the lure on impact with the water. It was definitely one of the most fun days I've had fishing this year. Got out again Sunday from 6 to 9pm and did ok. Caught less than 10, but most were keepers. I had the most success fishing a baby structure jig with paca chunk trailer really really slowly, but also caught one on a popper, one on a swimjig, and 1 on a t-rigged 5" Lake Fork hyper worm. Other than the fish caught on the popper, the bites were extremely subtle. I believe that the bass would pick up the jig but not swim off with it. The key for catching those was to slowly reel down to a tight line and then lightly shake the rod tip before setting the hook. I also noticed when fishing towards the bank, I had more bites on casts that hit land and were slowly pulled into the water vs casts that splashed water on impact. Getting back out this evening after work, hopefully they are a bit more aggressive....

Got out last night from 8 to 10 and lost count dead-sticking a 5" wacky at shallow structure and grasslines. I've started running the hook into the senko length-wise and it has definitely helped with top-of-the-mouth hooksets as well as being weedless.

Ya I agree. Spro poppin frog in midnight color is hard to beat. Natural Brown is another good color. g@nd3rMtn has select spro popping frogs on clearance for 7.97 these days

Nope. He's talking about a private lake in Anderson. I fished it once with him and it's a fantastic lake.

Weightless wacky senkos in dark colors towards the bank, or a single Colorado blade dark spinnerbait. Fished some gravel pits on Saturday and a reservoir on Sunday. Fish were stacked under docks and in offshore grass in both locations. Fishing both inner and outer grass line edges paid off. On Saturday we found a spot with a depth of 12-14' with grass coming up to 5'. There was a nice breeze coming in from the West, so we tied on jerkbaits and started fishing them above the grass and wore those largemouths out. I've honestly never fished jerkbaits in 80+ degree water before but man that was exciting. I need a new topwater rod. Can anyone recommend a 6'6" - 6'9" medium casting rod with an extra-fast tip under $160 ? Many thanks

Congrats on your new Frog PB. I've also had a lot of success this summer on topwater. Lobina Rico and whopper plopper have been money! Changing hooks on the whopper plopper made a big difference.

You could check out the pits in Sullivan IN and Linton IN, but if I were you I'd hop onto 70W to Effingham IL and catch some giants in Newton Lake. You can thank me later for that one INFinesse- how are you presenting chatterbaits? Trailer? Also, I probably need to thank you for putting me onto the ned rig. It really is an amazing deal, errrr I mean it's horrible nobody buy it they dont catch anything

Confession: I have an entire box of chatterbaits that the bait monkey forced me to buy, but have only used one a couple times while night fishing. When fishing in grass, when do you guys use a chatterbait over a spinnerbait or a swim jig/paddletail combo or texas rig?

I've only fished it once and was able to catch numbers but didnt catch anything over 15". This lake has a serious stain on it. The day I fished it (3 weeks ago), the south end had 1' visibility and the north end had 6". I couldnt locate any submergent or emergent grass. Given tomorrow's weather, you should have success flipping around docks as the sun will have them pinned under them. Are u fishing Angler's Dream? been there done that. LOL

The black/chrome and baby bass spooks are horrible lures. they never catch anything. lol

This Ned rig is the real deal. Spent the weekend fishing and swimming and was catching numbers in the middle of the 90+ degrees afternoon swimming a Ned. Pretty impressive. Also caught and released more cats than we could count by chumming the water with creamed corn and still-fishing chicken livers on an AL rig.

We had almost identical Tuesdays, except mine was in a tournament. +-20 bass with 3 keepers. Most came on a pointer, some on swim jig, some on Ned. I fished the same lake on Sunday and lost count it was so good. The largest was a 5.5. I guess that's the difference between a W wind (Sunday) and a NW wind (Tuesday). Looking back to Tuesday, I probably should have fished creek mouths instead of the main lake and coves.

Look up Sunline FC Sniper on Am@zon. It's a little pricey but well worth it. Great knot strength, virtually no memory, and in 2 years using it haven't noticed fraying (i do tend to trim a few inches on each retie however).

If catching lots and lots of 11" to 13" bass is your thing then you should hit Morse. Fished it Sunday morning and caught 25 to 30 of them, but not one keeper. lol The best part of the day was when caught a 14# channel cat on a spinner-bait! The 2nd best part of the day was when I went back to the marina to trailer at 11am. I had just tied down to a dock, and this dude on a jet ski comes at high idle and slams right into the dock next to me, putting a hole in the front of his ski. When I asked him if he was ok, he said "yeah I'm ok, but I don't know why my brakes didn't work." Trying really really really hard not to laugh, I told him to pop it in reverse then told him his brakes seem ok to me. Poor guy. The crazies were definitely out this weekend. Why switch to mono from flouro?

you could hit Summit at first light to take advantage of the low light conditions, then once the sun is up drive to Prairie Creek to fish around the boat docks.

That man you heard talking knows his stuff! I'm originally from Winter Haven, FL but have lived in central IN for the past 20 years. Now when I go home to fish with family and friends on Toho or the stick marsh, I almost always out-catch them and I do find it easier than fishing here in IN. The obvious reasons are the consistent shallow depths in FL lakes, and the presentation and technique diversity that I've had to learn for fishing all conditions in 4 seasons here in IN. There are so many fishing techniques one can learn here in IN based on lake structure/conditions that can also be used in other states. For example, you will learn how to fish timber if you're on Patoka. You can also use that technique in Texas on Lake Falcon. If you fish Geist, you'll learn how to fish offshore over grass, which is a technique I excel with in FL on the Winter Haven Chain. I've never fished Summit, but I live on a 200 acre gravel pit that has 15' clarity. Fishing from shore, low light conditions are best. You can also fish clear water during sunny days, as fish will be stacked under docks and bridges. Make sure your approach is stealthy, and make your casts from as far away as possible. Fish slowly and try and match your presentation to natural baitfish/shad. Looking at Summit Lake on google maps, there are just a couple docks and only one bridge. Maybe another lake (like Prairie Creek Reservoir which is North of Summit and has plenty of docks) might be a better choice for shore fishing during sunny conditions.

fished the tuesday night tournament on Geist last night with a buddy. The bite was tougher than it's been. We barely got a limit, biggest was a 4, others were 2 or less. I think the winning bag was just under 14. Big bass was 5.73. We went to locations that have been producing but nobody was home. All of our fish came from locations we tried for the first time. I was catching them on a frog and a paddle-tail, my buddy caught his swimming a chigger craw. sounds like he broke you off under that tree. 30# braid is not easy to break unless you have a leader tied on. Might have been a giant! 22 bass in 90 minutes? So when are you taking me fishing???

do these get hit on the fall, on a tap tap tap, or while still on the bottom? thnx So these half moon jigs by VMC with say a 5" senko would be an upsized Ned presentation?

Will any of you please post a picture of your Ned rig presentation? When I google ned rig and hit images the results are varied. Is this deal catching more numbers than say a weightless wacky senko? I went out last evening and saw a couple bluegills on beds but most beds were empty. I had success in main lake areas fishing paddle-tails over grass and back in coves flipping docks. Anybody else hitting Geist tonight for the Tuesday nighter?

Nice find!! Try fishing a black/blue spinnerbait with a single colorado blade really slow along the bottom. Also, a black or black w red flake senko will likely catch every bass in that pond. When I was younger I may or may not have snuck onto certain golf courses at night with some buddies to pond fish. The only tackle I would need was a worm rod and black senkos, texas-rigged weightless on a straight shank 3/0. It's crazy how many big bass are in those little ponds.

That's awesome, congrats on the new PB! I keep thinking one day I'll forget the plug and I still can't imagine taking on water like your boat did. How does this happen? I know you were freaking out!!

Fished a gravel pit last night from about 7 to 9pm. Caught somewhere between 25 and 30 keepers. Thanks to the strong N breeze, a swim jig rod (with a finesse swim jig/paddletail trailer) and a crankin rod (with a spro lil john crankbait tied on) were all that I picked up. Smallies were just destroying the swim jig. At one point I hooked em on 6 consecutive casts. ridiculous!!
