  1. Oh man, you're missing out. In low light conditions, topwater is my goto. Watching the water swell behind a topwater right before it gets inhaled is exciting to me. I live for overcast fall days when I can throw topwater all day. Spro frogs, Gunfish, Ricos, Yellow Magic's, Super Spook Jr's, Evergreens, Imma's, Whopper P's, Kelly J's, love em all!
  2. How can you not enjoy topwater??
  3. Got out this twice this weekend on gravel pits. Saturday afternoon was ridiculous. Me and a buddy just slayed them em on a pointer 78 and a whopper p. Was awesome to have that kind of topwater bite going on. They were super aggressive on Saturday btw, both LM and SM. Sunday I threw on some Columbia bibs and a rain jacket and we went back out on the gravel pit but didn't fair as well. My buddy did ok with a skirted ned rig, and I caught 6 working a swim jig slowly down the bank but nothing else. The 2 main differences between days were 1) rain and 2) casting angles. I was on the trolling motor Saturday and I kept positioning us so we could make casts that were parallel to the bank, but on Sunday we were on his boat making casts towards the bank. The way his pontoon is setup, parallel casting isn't doable unfortunately. It was super fun to fish in heavy rain, so bonus points for everyone that hit the lake on Sunday. We caught a ton of rock bass on Saturday too. They have a lotta heart for their size, but handling them SUCKS lol.
  4. Taking 2 buddies bass fishing tomorrow morning but haven't been on the water in a week. Any suggestions?
  5. That is awesome! Way to use your electronics too!! I'm gonna head out this evening and possible tomorrow morning as well. The loon whopper plopper has been dynamite lately in low light. The bone one is crushed them too. I switch out the rear treble with a bucktail dressed treble on those baits. It gives the bass something to target, and slows the lure a bit keeping it in the strike zone longer. Varying the retrieve speed then killing it has been money. My goto lure time of year is a swim jig with a 3.8" keitech fat impact trail. Shad and bait have grown to about that size, and bass are starting to feed more aggressively as temps drop. Lately I've been fishing with 5 rods on the deck: T-rig trick worm, swim jig, popper, whopper plopper, and a super spook jr. About time to start using squarebills again too.
  6. Lucky Craft Pointer 78 in ghost minnow Super Spook Jr. in bone Lucky Craft Gunfish 95 in chartreuse shad or ghost minnow bluegill or crappie colored swim jig over grass might be a good bet too
  7. Is the south end where the ramp is? I remember fishing that lake with you last year and it seems like the drops around the island would be stacked this time of year
  8. Got out Friday morning at first light and just destroyed them on topwater. At one point had 6 fish on 6 casts using a gunfish. By 8am I had a rotation of a gunfish, whopper plopper, and a lobina rico going. Topwater bite died by 9am, but managed to catch a few more on a dropshot.
  9. I fish the Tuesday nighter from 5 to 9 on Geist a couple times a month. It can get tough in late summer but in spring/fall it usually takes over 16 to get paid and over 20 to win.
  10. Welcome to the site. I also started fishing tournaments this year, even though I almost always have more productive days when fishing for fun. Go figure. What did your 2nd place bag weigh?
  11. The Pointer 78 Deep Diver is a gravel pit bass wrecking machine here in central Indiana from early spring to late summer
  12. INFinesse, your setup plays a role in the aggression of a ripbait too. If you're looking for really aggressive movements, remove the split ring from the lure and tie the lure on using a loop knot. I use 30# braid to a 12# FC leader with this setup. Start and finish the jerk on slack line too.
  13. THIS! Another option for colder water is to upsize the slender pointer 97MR to a 115MR, which is a slow-sinking presentation. I've caught both LM and SM giants on the MR series. Wait, I mean the MR series is terrible, fish hate it. Buy something else please
  14. I've tried just about every fishing tactic, including tossing a weightless senko into a school of shad or baitfish, but never bluegill. Great info!!! I'll give this a go the next time I encounter these conditions.
  15. Super Spook Jr. in bone with the dressed treble is my favorite and best-producing plug
  16. Claws up! Me likey
  17. Never knew that. Very deadly tho!
  18. When throwing a wacky senko, most of the time I do so weightless and weedless. Occasionally I'll use a nail weight, usually when fishing in a current or casting into heavy winds. In the right conditions (breezy and while eating lunch for example), a weightless wacky-rigged senko under a float can produce.
  19. Leaving it in the water long term = oxidation, blistering, and other gelcoat/hull damages that cost BIG $$$$ to have repaired. That boat looks to be in good shape right now. If you want to keep it in good shape either get a lift put in on your slip (one with a roof for maximum protection) or trailer your boat when not using. If leaving your boat in the water is an absolute must for your situation, trade in the skeeter for a pontoon.
  20. Got out last night for a couple hours before dark. We basically followed a school around, throwing spooks and sammys in front of them. Although we didn't catch anything over 2.5 or 3, we did catch numbers. The previous night I had fished for a couple hours and caught just one 13" smallie, so last night was that much more gratifying...
  21. Lucky Craft Slender Pointer MR 97 in Chartreuse Shad
  22. I'll throw a weightless t-rigged senko on a BC all day, but not wacky. Its not that I can't fish wacky rigs on a BC, but when I have in the past I had issues with line twist. Using a spinning setup for wacky seems to minimize line twist, Definitely gotta use O-rings to prevent the senko from flying off the hook - learned that after wasting a ton of money to feeding treetops my senkos..
  23. I've driven past the gate before, it's off of Raymond. Looking at google maps I don't see a ramp so it must be shore access only. Still, it may be a nice little honey hole if one could get access to it... Healthy looking fish there tstraub, which lake is that? Oh and what are the secrets to catching big fish? LOL!
  24. Question: There's a relatively small lake on Indy's southside at Raymond/Harding which I believe is owned by Eli Lilly for it's employees. Has anyone ever had a chance to fish it? I drive past it almost every morning on my way into work and often see bass erupting on the surface...
