  1. Could the clicking be the break washers retrackting?
  2. How can I tell if my spool bearings are bad? I have the Stx and have no issues. The premier I have kinda clicks as the spool comes to rest (kinda hear the bearing clicking) . Also the spool is more difficult to manage and isn't as consistent casting. It tends to want to backlash more and I have done all I can. Bearing flush light oiling. It casted well at first the after a couple of trips it became inconsistent. Any help?
  3. 100m and sv spools, where can I get them and how much and why are they better?(thank you)
  4. I bought a Zillion and a T3 ballistic. Really like both, anyone else have them and like them too? Is anyone upgrading them with bearings and such. The stock bearings seem really good. They cast well just wondered if I made the right purchases. Reel trade in for 20% off Zillion and over half price on the T3 ! What line and such works best on these, I started with cheap line till I got the hang of them.
  5. The guides are not braid proof. Does that mean the braid eats into the guides and leaves grooves in them?
  6. I'm thinkin' of running straight braid for the first couple of weeks of bassin'. Does anyone else do this or do the fish spook easy from the line. I always use mono, braid sometimes for spinnerbaits but I'm thinkin' of just usin' braid for everything for a little, I just don't wanna limit the fish I catch and was wondering If I can get away with It and still catch em'.
  7. Thank you for the replies. I was in the yard casting with 15 pound stren high impact . Its not horrible casting a chatterbait. although it was windy today. I set the hook hard on some snags seems like it might not break. Might have to downsize line for chatterbaits. Should work with 15lb. with lipless cranks(kinda new lure to me). Appreciate the input everybody.
  8. I just bought a Tour KVD cranking series rod, model TKVD746M, 7'4" medium heavy EGC composite. I wanted to know what this rod can be good for and has anyone else used one. It's rated for 1/4oz to 1/2oz lures and 12 to 20 pound test. It has the semi micro guides.I was hoping to use it for long casting, rattle baits, squarebills and cranks maybe even chatterbaits and spinnerbaits. Is it a keeper or should I throw her back? Still frozen over here can't test her out.

Anyone familiar with the Strike King Rage Blades I bought some and the collar to hold the skirt on is about a half inch down the hook. I was wandering if its a manufacture defect. The ones i have seen in catalogs had the collar tight to the hook eye. I bought three of them and they all have the skirt keeper a half inch below the hook eye. I was also wandering if they do as well as the Chatterbaits catching fish.

How do you use a shakey head, what heads and plastics? Why isnt a regular jig head the same as a shakey head? How and where do you use them? Can a regular round jig head be used the same way?
  12. Who do you feel will win the Classic. What technique, lure, or lures ,pattern and person. I think KVD will likely win with RES,Spinnerbait and Jerkbait. He is just an amazing fisherman that works hard at winning. I have heard the fish are deep right now with a likely warming trend sending them to the shallows.
  13. Thank you for the explanation. I like it.
  14. Im not sure I understand the super glue thing. What do you do with the super glue?
  15. I would return it or exchange it. In a few stores, I have noticed the shimanos were that way.(floor models) I thought it was odd cause I heard such good stuff about shimanos. Went to cabelas and their citica was nice and smooth. Dont be afraid to take the next reel out of the box and check it real good before you leave the store. When I was in the same store you got yours I asked the clerk why they were that way he said he didnt know. He didnt seem too interested in selling me anything. I like the store but dont like my stores service.
  16. what's a good way to add internal weight?
  17. If it had the free floating spool it would be good for my purposes.I like how far the free floating spool can cast a heavy lure. Reading the Cabelas description it doesn't say.
  18. thankx my new favorite bargain. Wanted a Lexa but also prefer the magforce z style of breaking. If anybody buys one of these I would be interested in how they like it. Keep us posted.
  19. Reminds me of the first local tournament I fished( of three).I bought a Zebco(Quantum)spincast reel at a yard sale and took it to the tournament. I was fooling with it in the boat during take off and my partner said 'Put that down your embarassing me' I replied joking 'I'm gonna win this thing with it'. I never used it but interestingly enough we stumbled on some giant smallmouth. The wind kicked up and made the lake impossible to fish and we wound up winning the tournament and lunker pool. We were'nt members of the fishing club, they were not happy. The lure we used to win as it turned out was one of the member's company and he never used them that day.(I used a mitchell spinning reel they don't make anymore lol)
  20. Thanks, I watched several of them after I read what you wrote, good stuff.
  21. Thanks, I was wondering what he was using I can never get a good look watching the tournament coverage.
  22. You are right they do get sponsered gear but they have to win with it which can be a difficult thing up against hundreds of anglers. I know Edwin Evers uses a bps pq, I wonder if they are tuned or stock. They are a little on the heavy side. Inexspensive though. Not long ago many pros used mid range reels. Just curious what they do use and actually do well with.
  23. Does anyone know what the pros use for their baitcasting reels of choice(and rods)? Do they use factory reels or supertuned? Also are there any links to this info like Bassmasters used to name what they used, reels, rods, line, lures, in their magazine. I really enjoyed the articles about the tournaments and what they used to win. I haven't found any links that address this information. Anyway I'm just curious who uses what and have they changed brands over the years. Do they ever discuss their preferences . Occassionally I catch some info just wondering which pros use what reel and rod. Any pros successfully using the Tatula yet?
  24. http://www.bassresource.com/bass-fishing-forums/topic/126636-bps-pro-qualifier-bc-reel-%E2%80%93-5-year-challenge-%E2%80%93-4-years-down-1-to-go/ This is an interesting read
  25. Get yourself a BPS pro qualifier. It has the dual brakes(plus the tension knob set to tight enough so the spool doesn't move side to side, tighter in the begining, then looser as you get better). Set the internal pins, two in the on position.Use inexpensive 10 or 12 pound monofilament. Buy a cheap larger spool of line and change line often when you notice it feeling too rough. With the dual breaks you can increase the outer magnetic break for windy conditions or just to keep from backlashing. The reel is a good starter and many people stay with this reel. For $100 or less, on sale they get down to 60, 70, or 80 bucks.Keep the reel clean as you can and periodically oil the spool bearings with quality reel oil/lube(one drop). It may all sound like much but it becomes a labor of love for most of us die hards. Wish I knew all of these tips when I first purchased a baitcaster 30 years ago.(otherwise buy a daiwa or shimano )
