  1. Thanks for the good info gulfcaptain, but my question relates to your first statement about a tight line. Why spool the line initially any tighter than it would re-spool after a cast? Aaron Martens claims in a BR video that it should be spooled tight enough so that you can't get a fingernail between the line coils.
  2. I haven't used braid yet, but I'm about to give it a try on a baitcaster. I hear from others that the braid needs to be spooled on as tight as possible to help avoid digging in. My question is, on the first cast isn't the braid going to get re-spooled less tightly with "normal" line tension? How does the initial tight spooling help if the line loosens on the spool at the first cast?
  3. Welcome ... and Go Vols!!!
  4. I did the same from the TW holiday sale but paired it with a St. Croix Avid. Spooled up with Yo-Zuri and ready to go! Enjoy yours!
  5. There's that "need" word again! You NEED to WANT more of the bait monkey!!
  6. "Need" you say? What does the Bait Monkey have to do with need!!
  7. I took advantage of the TW sale to match up a St. Croix AVC70MF, Curado I, and 12 lb Yo-Zuri. Now if I can only find the time and weather to get 'em wet with some weightless Senkos, lipless cranks, jerkbaits and other such goodies!
  8. I do that especially for the clinch knot -- good insurance!
  9. Agree. Nice crankbait caster.

$2.15 in Memphis this morning at a BP ... and slowly dropping.
  11. What did you catch her on this time Kent?
  12. You win -- go make a fire instead!
  13. Great post A-Jay ... thanks! But come on, your last time this season after catching those beauties??? No way -- grab the thermals and give us some more good viewing!!!
  14. Looking for opinions from Avid users as to how well the AVC70MF works to throw square bills and lipless cranks in the 3/8 to 1/4 oz. range. I've tried the AVC70MM, but it's a bit "whippy" for my taste. Thought about the AVC70MHM, but would the MF be a more versatile rod for throwing cranks and other baits? Appreciate your thoughts!
  15. Football jig I'm guessing?
  16. Can someone post a pic of a vertical rigging?
  17. I HIGHLY recommend "The Essence of Flycasting" by Mel Krieger (DVD and book).
  18. Anyone familiar with the makeup of this knob to confirm how it's put together? I'm matching parts and I think it's the knob plus a black plastic insert, a square metal nut, and possibly a small spring all held to the knob by 2 small screws. Should the spring be inserted into the plastic piece?
  19. Here on a quick weekend trip. All I have with me is a spinning outfit and some bass tackle. Any ideas for doing a little surf fiahing with the kids - e.g. what tackle or baits to use?
  20. Thanks much. I've been to the Mulch Pond once (I remember it as being pretty shallow), but not yet to Lowe's. I'm with Indana Jones -- "Snakes ... I hate snakes!"
  21. No takers for me at Grove today. Tried Bug, Senko and jig & craw. One guy landed a HUGE cat on live bait. He also pulled out a small crappie on a jig. So where are the Lowes and Mulch ponds? Is the Mulch Pond at Shelby Farms?
  22. As said before, rinse off any dust particulates first with water. Then use common rubbing alcohol with clean fingers, rinse again with water and blot dry with a lens cloth.
  23. Thanks all for your suggestions!
  24. I'm traveling to Orlando this week, and would appreciate recommendations for any noteworthy fishing equipment stores in the area. Thanks!
