  1. Absolutely, a drop shot will work anywhere. It's become one of my most versatile presentations
  2. Funny you mention this because I had a day last Sunday where I was catching them cast after cast in 14-18 ft on a paddletail. When I wore them out there, I looked over to the shore and there was a good stretch of pads so I paddled over (kayak) and continued to wack the bejeeses outta them on a t-rigged worm. I've always known there are no rules in fishing and this day proved it. It was blue, clear skies, hot, humid and calm and I went from 16 fow to less than a foot and they were biting in both locations minutes apart. Are there some general suggestions given time of year, weather, water temp etc?...sure; but nothing set in stone.
  3. @A-Jay I think you're right in that veriage being a disclaimer. I'm comfortable with it being correct and fine for the both of us to wear and be safe. It does have 22.5 lb buoyancy rating
  4. I have an automatic inflatable that I bought from Cabelas a few years ago. Of course, never read any instructions; just started wearing it. My wife got into kayaking with me and wanted a thin vest like I wear so I bought her the same brand I have from Dicks; an Onyx AM/24 Well I thought I'd read the instructions and this thing actually says "not for use by non swimmers or weak swimmers." Uuhhhhhh, I thought that's exactly what a PFD was for?? She can swim but is a weak swimmer. Now I'm wondering if mine said the same thing and I'm wondering if I bought the right one for her. Thoughts?
  5. This was my first thought. I can scan over some of my best structure, never see fish, back off and fish it and wack em
  6. I'm usually a numbers guy. When I go fishing I like to catch fish. I'm also fortunate enough to have lots of good water around here. Some places produce good numbers with smaller fish while others give me toads but fewer of them. So I go back and forth all year long depending what I'm hankerin' for
  7. It's Ford vs Chevy my friend. Really, it's such a personal debate; Garmin, Low and Bird are the leaders in sonar so it just depends which platform you prefer to use.
  8. I'd be shocked if a pond 10' deep can flip. That happens on deeper lakes where the water temp is so different from upper level to lower level, that the density makes the water "flip", or trade positions. I don't know what killed your fish, sadly, but I doubt it's due to a turnover. I would, however, check with state departments and have the water tested before adding new fish.
  9. Great to see!
  10. I caught some good ones on that Cut-R in Moon Juice last weekend. In clear water, I think that's my new color.
  11. I agree with both of the above but I'll add a couple of thoughts. First, try trimming the weedguard. Some view them as "fishguards", possibly hindering a good hookset. I trim the overall length so when I push it down towards the hook, it's just long enough to cover the hook point; no longer. I also cut a few off right at the lead so it's thinner, more pliable. The second issue could be=what line setup are you using. If you're using a rubber band like fluorocarbon, switch to braid and you'll nail every one...this, of course, is just my opinion.
  12. Congrats to that young man!!
  13. I understand that. I'm just saying she was the largest bass that has ever been weighed on planet earth.
  14. Dottie is my world record. I don't care how she was caught; she's the largest bass on planet earth that humans have seen and weighed. By pounds
  15. I'm sorry to hear about your losses. Good to see you get out though. Stay positive
  16. My usual partner and I play a little game at the end of our day where one of us will ask the other, "ok, if you could win $1m right now to catch a single fish, where would you go and what would you do?" Then that person will drive the boat to "his" picked spot and try to catch a fish. Then the other person gets a chance to pick a spot and catch one fish. We call it "one more, out the door"
  17. Depends on wind and depth. On a calm day, in a lilly field I'll go weightless but in a little breeze or if I want some depth to the bait, I'll use a belly weighted hook.
  18. When fish are actively feeding, or in cleaner water, yes, a natural bait may be the best choice. But when the bite gets tough, they are not actively feeding or in dirty/stained water, there are baits that can make fish bite. This is called a reaction bite. Bass don't do much other than eat and make more bass. They are programmed to eat so when they are alarmed or curious, (and because they don't have fingers to examine a bait) they just eat it. Now, there are tons of vids showing bass hitting a bait, and then spitting it out. This could be because they were curious, ate it, figured it out and a non-food source, then spit it. We don't care about that because we want to set a hook before they spit it out; as long as we can trick them into biting in the first place. This is where scents on baits can be useful too; to make a fish hold a bait just a split second longer so we can set a hook.
  19. I used the Blood for years and years; until I discovered the Alberto And, to me, the FG in FG knot stands for FuGedaboudit
  20. Or uses twice as much oxygen? https://countryrebel.com/image-of-fish-with-two-mouths-goes-viral-on-facebook/?a=MB&var=FishTwoMouths-RELOAD&utm_campaign=fishtwomouths&utm_source=facebook&utm_medium=social&utm_term=author-mb-posted_by-dk-reload&utm_content=viral-content
  21. Went to Lake B again today and pulled a bunch of good smallies and this 5-6
  22. While I do save a jerk for water under 50, I've had great days when slick, cloudy etc... (poor JB conditions) And I know jerks will work in warmer water, I just have other confidence baits in water over 50
  23. Years ago I thought of starting a bait company and went through the same thing. I never did it so I'll give you my super duper, bait selling, fisherman catching, sounds awesome name for a jig.... The DLG Because fish Don't Let Go And it could turn into your full business name for that matter. DLG Jigs Just send me some jigs when you're famous
