Checking To See If A Lithium Battery Is Functional
I purchased a 100 AH Lithium battery from a local kayak dealer here in NH about 2 years ago. I have never used it or hooked it up to anything. Is there anything I can hook up to it to see if it's functional? I have put the battery on a it's charger, but it reads that the battery is at 100% full. I would presume some sort of discharge would happen, but I could be wrong. I purchased this battery at 1/2 off as the manufacturer went out of business. Enduro is the brand name. Another red flag for this battery is that the app isn't reading the battery. Then again, seeing as how the battery is new and has never done any work, maybe the Wi-Fi function of the battery isn't enabled yet. What I'm looking for here is something that is easily attached to the battery just to do a functions check.

Lithium Battery Box For A Kayak
Got the Battery box in. I get that the voltage meter can't be trusted when using a lithium battery with this Newport Vessels box. That has me questioning the built in circuit breaker. This box has a 60 amp circuit breaker built into the box. That should still work as intended even though I am using a lithium battery, yes?

Lithium Battery Box For A Kayak
That's exactly what I found out about this battery box when using it with a lithium battery. That's fine by me as I do have an app for the battery I purchased. I should be good to go in that department. 🤞

Lithium Battery Box For A Kayak
After doing a little more research I have found a few people that are using the battery box I want with a lithium battery. Maybe Newport Vessels places that disclaimer on their website as a way to prevent a law suit? Either way, I pulled the trigger and when the battery box lands I will have everything I need to get that trolling motor installed on the kayak.

Lithium Battery Box For A Kayak
I have finally purchased a trolling motor, 100AH battery, and a charger for my kayak. I would like to mount a battery box behind my Black Pak. I thought I found a battery box by Newport Vessels. Drop the battery in, has a built in circuit breaker, reads the battery level, easy peasy. But just plain as day on their website it is stated "Not for use with Lithium batteries". What would make a battery box not compatible with a Lithium Battery? And, do you know of any plug and play battery boxes that are made for lithium batteries?

Enduro Lithium Battery
I have no experience with lithium batteries. I have finally pulled the trigger on a trolling motor for my Kayak and was not going to purchase a battery for it until I did some more research. While picking up the motor today, the sales clerk mentioned that they had a brand of batteries in which the company had gone out of business. They were offering them up at a 50% off sale. But, no warranty as the company is no longer around. Well, I couldn't pass up the opportunity. I picked up a 100ah 12v Enduro battery and a charger for 1/2 price. I understand that it's a gamble, but I rolled the dice. Anyone here using or have any personal experience with the Enduro brand of lithium batteries?

New Minn Kota Terrova Kayak Motor
Well, I'm done. First it was the Motor Guide Kayak Motor. That really sold me. A Kayak Motor with Spot Lock. But, I'm not a Motor Guide guy. Then they stopped making that trolling motor. Well, Minn Kota is now taking a swing. And this here, this is the one for me. I have been going back and forth on either a fish finder or a motor on my PA14. I'm pulling the trigger on this motor before Minn Kota changes their mind...😅 https://minnkota.johnsonoutdoors.com/us/shop/freshwater-trolling-motors/kayak-terrova

Sat In My First "Sparkly" Boat Last Weekend...
That's just it. I know I could get by with another aluminum boat. But at my age, if I'm going to buy another boat, I want it to be the boat that is GORGEOUS to my eye. I want my heart in it. And for Pete's sake, I can't stop drooling over these damned "Sparkly" Bass Boats.

Wife and I were really liking the Targa V-19 Tournament series. That's something I would be comfortable with putting in the ocean from time to time. Just need to settle on a boat at this point.

Sat In My First "Sparkly" Boat Last Weekend...
I've always laughed at Bass boats. So focused on one thing. Going fast and fishing on a fresh water lake. Can't even put that $90,000 boat in the ocean. What a waste of money!!! These days, not so much. I haven't had a boat now for over 7 years, and paddling around in a kayak is getting old. The idea of a Bass boat has really been warming on my lately. I'm all done with the ocean. Now, $100,000 for a Skeeter, yuh. That's to much. I could swing $55,000 on a Nitro Z18 though...🤔 Not this year, but maybe next winter. Sat in one last weekend. First time ever in a Bass Boat. Wow. That's space to fish!!!

Braided Line Set Up
I hate to say it out loud, but I am a casting reel only kind of guy. I remember those braided lines from 25ish years ago and no way those stiff lines would of casted on a casting reel. Time to go shopping. Can anyone recommend a braided line brand that they have found success with using a bait caster?

Braided Line Set Up
Asking this as the last time I fished braided line was in 1988 when I was still living in FL...(yes, I'm that old...😝). I got away from it for many reasons that I won't get into here on this thread. I was to build out a top water set up for this season. I have questions though. Does a specific braid cast better on a bait caster versus on a spinning reel? Is braided line stile a PITA to cut? Sorry for asking such rookie questions, but I am sure that braided lines are better now than they were back when I was younger.

Do you still have OG reels in your rotation?
I still fish the Quantum Energy PT...

Out of my budget.
I am in the same boat as you. I should of never sold my 16' Aluminum boat. I have a very nice fishing kayak, but d**n to I miss being COMFORTABLE while chasing my favorite species of fish. I'll keep paddling the kayak around as anything over $30,000 is above my budget. I am starting to seriously look at used boats nowadays.

I’d say that’s excessive
No Spot Lock on those motors though.

I’d say that’s excessive
That's just it. All said and done, it would be around $2800 to add a Minn Kota to the bow of my PA14. At that price point, I can just purchase an Old Town Sportsman Autopilot 136. Sooooo, holding off for right now until I make my mind up.

Kayak Trolling Motors and Cutting Shafts
Looks like a Minn Kota Terrova 12v, 55lb thrust, 45" shaft will fit the bill. Now I just gotta figure out the whole cutting the shaft thing...

Kayak Trolling Motors and Cutting Shafts
I was going to pull the trigger on a Motor Guide Xi3 with the 36" shaft this week. Going to bow mount it on a Hobie PA14. Well, Motor Guide no longer makes that Kayak specific model. So, back to the drawing board. It's really a blessing in disguise as both of the trolling motors I have owned on my boats(back in my younger days) were Minn Kota's. And I never had any issues with either one of them. I was going to purchase the motor guide as it was made for a Kayak with a shorter shaft. Now that I know I can't get the Kayak specific motor and I will need to cut the shaft, Motor Guide is off the table. I am looking for a 55lb thrust trolling motor with GPS (Spot Lock is a must have if I am going to put one on my kayak). Can anyone here recommend a Minn Kota Trolling motor along the aforementioned criteria? Also, how much of a PITA is it to cut a trolling motor shaft?
