  1. No personal experience but buddy has had several for 5+ years and are still going strong. They are still his go to flipping rods and any other rods he get are all extremes.
  2. I thought they were actually designed as a jig trailer? And called the pit boss chunk or something.
  3. I really like the bps crankin stick. Has been nothing, but good in my eyes.
  4. The pinnacle deadbolt is a good one if you want to cut down on pricing and still get a quality reel. Look through Valley Sports inventory or call him. I just looked trough his website and there is a lot of great value there.
  5. Got to go out to my neighbors pond today with it and it performed better than I expected. Was very sensitive and has plenty of fighting power. I was throwing a 1/4 oz missile baits warlock shaky head with a fuse 4.4 and caught the mess out of them. Even caught them biggest fish I've seen in there for several years.
  6. 10-12 flouro on mid to deep plugs and 15 flouro on square bills.
  7. Yea I was impressed enough that I'm gonna pick up the 7'2 heavy jig rod to try as well.
  8. Just picked up an insight spinning rod and seems to be a heck of a buy. It is lighter than most higher end rods and balances very well in the hand. I haven't had a chance to actually fish with it yet, but I did slap a practice plug to kind of get a feel for it. Seems as solid as several other higher priced rods. I know it isn't in the water but when dragging the plug back it did translate every little bump and movement very well. So if anyone is looking to add another rod at a great price right now order one before Saturday. Dick's has them online for 29.99 plus free shipping.
  9. I like them Texas rigged with about a 1:4 oz weight. There are IMO opinion 4 ways for them to best be fished. The first is just the plain Texas rig. If I'm pitching it to cover that is what I'll use. Second, is on a biffle head which is a good option if you want to throw it around rocky places and pull it along the bottom. Third, is the rage rig which has been thoroughly covered. Last, which is my favorite, is on a VMC rugby head. I'm one who likes to drag it across the bottom when not Flippin into cover. The head shape allows this set up to do well in soft and hard bottoms. If there are some rocks it will also have a little better action due to the somewhat football head shape.
  10. X2 on this bait. I also like to dye the very ends of the claws red.
  11. I'd suggest overall the PQ but the lews is definitely a good reel as well. It would be worth getting the lews local just to get the help from the store guy. I'd also go with a 7 foot rod. It will help with distance and overall fighting power IMO. Aedium heavy is a great do all type rod as well. I'm not sure about the two individual rods listed but the berkley lightning shock rod you mentioned is a good one. As many rods as I have now one still stays on my deck.
  12. Hey guys if anyone is looking to add a rod or two that doesn't cost a lot go to Dick's website and look up the wright and McGill insight rods. They are a g loomis or even a veritas, but I picked some up to feel in store and they feel pretty good. Seem to be pretty well built and are lighter than the W and M skeet Reese rods. These were "designed" by Brent chapman. They are 59 in store but online they are 29 with free shipping. Just a heads up.
  13. So I read in the Wilson trip thread that Alabama, Mississippi, and Tennessee has some kind of agreement on the lake regarding licenses. Could someone explain to me how that works?
  14. I just bought a bps cranking stick and really enjoyed it wen I took it to Pickwick. They make several different lengths and powers. Plus they are only 80 bucks. Also come with cork handle.
  15. I feel you pain man. I have 2 walmarts that are in my city and neither mark anything down seems like. The .50 cent mark is as low as they will go as well.
  16. Sounds like you made out pretty good. I really like the veritas rods. I'm not a shimano guy though. Nothing against them the are good reels just not what I like. But either way that's a great price on the setup. Congrats.
  17. IMO they have the best action of the swim baits I've had a chance to use and seen used. I'm going to really try to expand on using swim baits in and around grass this year.
  18. I picked a pack of their 10 inch ribbon tails to give a try this year. They are very similar to the zoom ol monster worm but a little over a dollar cheaper. So if they turn out to be good I'll be buying some more. That's the only one that I really found that I like. Off topic but have you looked at any of the Missile baits? They make some good stuff that you can't get everywhere.
  19. Ohhh my mistake. Got everything mixed up.
  20. Thanks. Next time we go up there I'll try to pick up some some red stuff. I have several traps might pick up some cranks and worms. With all the big fish caught from other lakes and released there during tournaments every year there is no way there aren't some monsters in there.
  21. The epoxy molds I made came with a hardener. I just mixed the epoxy with the correct amount of hardener and poured. Couple hours later it was harder and I had a perfect mold.
  22. There are so many good ones out there it's almost hard the pick. I'm a big strike king guy by nature and really like the kvd series and the xd's. Recently I've picked up some spro's and I really think I'll end up transitioning a big portion of my tackle to them. Don't mean to throw yet another bait in the mix but any of the dt series rapala baits are fish catching machines as well. Lipless I like te red eye shad, spro's lipless, and the Excaliburs.
  23. Was there yesterday and caught a good amount of fish throwing a Spro little john md. Didn't come across too many females but there were quote a few bucks roaming. Did catch two or three that would have went between 3 and 4 lbs.
  24. I bought one as my first 'higher end' rod and caught many many fish with it. I always liked it, but ended up breaking it. It was totally my fault though. Haven't replaced it over the 3 years after it broke because I haven't run up on a deal like I have other rods. But I would most certainly ****** up several if them at that price.
