  1. If I were in your position, I would get one baitcast setup and one spinning setup. If you aren't up to learning to use a baitcaster, get two spinning setups. Baitcaster: BPS Pro Qualifier $79 at classic sale 7' MH Berkeley Lightning Shock or BPS Tourney Special $49 Spinning: Pfluegar President 6930 $49 at classic sale 6'6" M Berkeley Lightning Shock or BPS Tourney Special $49 Should put you under $250 after tax.
  2. Finally got over to the Lowes to get some Perfect Solution. They must not move much of the stuff because it was on clearance for $2.19 and all of the bottles were super dusty. I soaked the two bearings still giving me trouble all evening with the occasional ultrasonic blast and spin test. Wasn't really seeing any improvement. I'll let them soak overnight but I am not hopeful, I think the bearings are shot.
  3. I think its just personal preference. I feel I can cast further and more accurately with a baitcaster, and I really don't like using spinning reels. Since Spinning reels are able to throw lighter lures than baitcasters, I use baitcasters when I can, spinning when I must. I don't think there is anything stopping you from using spinning for heavier applications.
  4. Mojo's are made in Mexico. Anyway, I ordered a mojo spinning rod online, but once I got my hands on it I was displeased with how tip heavy it was. Returned it and picked up a Fenwick Elite tech smallmouth rod. Much better balance.
  5. Flyer is up on the bass pro website now.
  6. I tried the R2S. It swam terrible, I couldn't get it to look anything like it does in the commercial. Didn't really dive at all, it ran with it's nose really high.
  7. Take a look at the Daiwa Lexa spinning reel too. I haven't fished mine yet but it feels really solid, has an aluminum frame.
  8. Agree. Wish I got the 6930 instead of a 6935. Go with the 30.
  9. I'll try to pick some up tomorrow. Thanks!
  10. I believe some people think the new curado and the Chronarch E's are too close in price point and the E's will be discontinued.
  11. I'm not very experienced with cleaners, is something like perfect solution or simple green a better degreaser than acetone?
  12. Well, I've already cleaned all but one of my reals, polished all the drag washers too. These side plate bearings are the only ones giving me trouble. I've got 5 of em running cycles in the ultrasonic cleaner right now, if they don't get smoother relatively easily I'll order a few 5s And replace them.
  13. I'm new here, but I see a lot more Lew's guys bagging on Shimano than the other way around. Perhaps I missed something in the past though. It is funny though, no matter the topic or hobby, these brand loyalty scuffles always seem to happen on forums. I suppose its just human's tribalistic nature.
  14. Really? I never have loading problems with the BPS site. I always have loading problems with the TW site on the other hand. I will say trying to use the regular BPS site is pretty rough on mobile. The page keeps scrolling back to the top when you try to look at stuff on the bottom of the page.
  15. Figured it out, bearings weren't actually clean. I severely underestimated the cleaning power of the acetone and ultrasonic cleaner. I accidentally figured it out when I decided to run the bearings again and the tension bearing came out super smooth. It took a ton more work of soaking over night, running in the ultrasonic, blowing it out with compressed air, changing the acetone, and repeating again. Eventually I got the side plate bearing pretty smooth as well. For that much work, I might be better off just replacing them. Oh well, lesson learned. Now I have to go back and deep clean the side plate bearings of the reels I already cleaned. Thanks for the help guys.
  16. Interesting point Rooster. It is kind of just bling, I wonder if some of these companies have cheapened other parts of the reel in order to provide a metal drag star at a certain price point because they know the bling helps move reels.
  17. I buy a lot of clearance tackle. I don't fish a lot of clearance tackle, but I buy it. The Dick's by me generally has something decent on clearance most of the time. Got a bunch of 7" and 10" power worms for $0.97 each a few weeks ago.
  18. As a kid I played a game called Trophy Bass 2 for windows 98 a lot. I still have the discs and can still get it to run in a Windows XP virtual machine. I was playing it last month and saw a camera icon I had never clicked on. I clicked on it and up pops a fishing tip video from 1996 Kevin Van Dam. Pretty funny seeing how young he was.
  19. I was comparing the 2500 to the 30 size as I feel those are more similar sized(volume) reels. I think my 35 sized President is a bit bulky for bass fishing, but the lighter weight of the Supreme probably offsets that a bit. I guess we're kind of pulling off topic though, so I'll just say between those two I'd pick the Symetre.
  20. I just picked this rod up for punching. Its interesting because it has a fairly short handle, which means the amount of rod above the trigger is longer than I expected. If I hold the 7'3" *** and my 7'6" BPS Xtreme rods trigger to trigger, the tips are exactly the same length. I haven't fished it yet, but I think the short handle is going to be nice for pitching.
  21. I don't think 5 inches per turn is insignificant, its a 17% increase. Its a bigger difference than the difference between most 6.X:1 to 7.X:1 baitcasters. I had a President as a drop shot reel and the speed bugged me, liked the Symetre much better(although the President is slower than the supreme). If that is something that is important to the OP, then that will affect his choice. I think it is easier to reel slower with a fast reel than reel faster with a slow reel.
  22. Id go Symetre for the faster retrieve speed. I wish those Pfluegars were faster.
  23. I've been had! I was suspicious of the reps claim, that's why I put that disclaimer in my post
  24. Really? I fish all over SE Wisconsin and can find matted vegetation to punch on pretty much every lake except maybe Geneva. Even if there isn't matted vegetation on the surface, you can still use punching gear to get into dense subsurface weed clumps.
