  1. Jacob is a awesome fisherman! What a talent.
  2. Welcome to the forum. You will find a wealth of information here. Just using the search function will take you to a wealth of information. Great place to get started.
  3. Imho the "bother" is a now generation social media thing where everyone feels required to share their feelings on the internet. Yep, just like I just did lol.
  4. Only reason I quit fishing the original is during the 40 years I wasn't fishing the skirts broke down and became a inseparable mass, and I never looked for skirt replacements. Bass in farm ponds couldn't resist them.
  5. Haven't read all of the above comments, but when there is someone else in the boat, all my time is spent trying to put them on fish. Normally it is someone that has accepted my invitation to fish and it is more important for them to catch fish than for me to catch fish. I fish alone most of the time, and that is fine, and seldom if ever refuse to take someone fishing.
  6. Wow, just learned something. Never had this happen, or thought it could happen. If this is it, you nailed it. I have missed some guides on the rod several times which have led to backlashes. Wealth of info. on this site.
  7. I'm not sure how to interpret "line under loop". From my experience, every backlash I have ever had, there was line under loops, and loops under line, all "my" operator error. If the OP is just learning on a baitcaster, all the information above should be helpful.
  8. Tried one spool of Yo-Zuri 12 lb. hybrid line in 2005. Sorry to say, never used the entire spool, and have not used it since. Had numerous break-offs. Unscientific tests (glove on each hand and 12 inches line between) comparing Yo-Zuri to other 12 lb. lines that I had on hand would never have yielded 20# breaking strengths for 12# line. My question. Have they improved the line that much since 2005, or did I most likely just get a bad spool? Needing to buy some bait caster line and wondering about giving them another try.
  9. Welcome to the forum. Can't help with fisheries in the Branson area as I live in the SE. Having grown up in the Midwest, am looking forward to your inputs once you get there. In the meantime, keep us up on the Norcal fishing.
  10. Wow!!! Congrats.
  11. If it were for spinning instead of baitcaster, I'd also recommend Fins Windtamer. However, no reason it wouldn't work on baitcaster. I was using 30# Power Pro original and had no problems with it. I switched to Super Slick. Didn't like it. My perceived issue was that the line stuck to itself when wet causing overruns.
  12. Running 25 mph I glanced to the left toward a cove, and had the thought "haven't fished that one before", looked back and there was a 20 ft log crossways in front of me. Hand was on throttle, reaction was stop, front end of boat went up, middle of boat came down on the log. Busted seam in my 17 ft. aluminum bass boat. I don't want to think of how far I could have flown going 70 mph.
  13. I'm still a fan of MLF. It to me, is more interesting than most any other fishing competition on TV. What to me is boring, is no fish being caught. Lake Murray in SC was a surprise in that respect (maybe it got better after the only episode that I watched). As Jrob78 said, they can't catch what isn't in the lake. You can be sure they will make adjustments as time passes to keep it interesting. If not, we'll be watching something else.
  14. Often a Texas rig (T-rig just means the hook point is buried in the plastic) is fished without a bobber stopper which allows the bullet weight to slide on the line. This allows the bass to suck in the lure without feeling the weight plus allows the angler to feel the bite better. The negative is when fishing in heavy cover the separation of the weight from the lure causes more hang-ups in the brush, grass or whatever. Jigs are a whole different animal. When you would use a jig vs. a T-rig is mostly personal preference. The prey you are trying to imitate is a factor. Some jigs are designed to reduce snagging, others have open hooks. To get an idea of how many different types of jigs there are, Google Tackle Warehouse or any other large retailer and look at them. The search function on this web site is awesome. You can find anything plus videos. Endless learning for fishing lol.
  15. They are a little tricky at first look. Can be used for bass fishing with soft plastic or live bait. There are a number of uses for them. Pegging a slip weight for Texas rigging is a popular one. Also pegging a weight for punch rigging is popular. By the way, welcome to the forum?
  16. I'll take a guess. Sounds like bobber stoppers. If you know bobber stoppers and it isn't them, then, I tried. If there is a little rubber thing right before the end loop, you put your line through the loop of one of the wires then pull the rubber thing toward the end loop until the rubber makes the line double, then continue to pull the rubber thing until it is on your single strand of line. Slide the stopper up the line to the depth you want to fish and then add a slip bobber and then the hook.
  17. You didn't mention if you are a tournament fisherman, but I'm betting you are. If you are not, just carry a couple of toothpicks and a small finishing nail in your tackle box. Most of the time you can find the loop that is laying wrong in the tangle and pull it out which lets the rest of the line pull free. I can only think of a couple of times where I had to take the reel home and cut the line off. I don't respool on the water. As a person gets better with baitcasters there are fewer overruns and normally they are less severe.
  18. Surprising that no one has a comment as to which is best. My guess is that you may have answered your question with your last sentence. There are many different factors that effect where the fish will be at a specific time. I searched this forum for "channel swings" and there are maybe more than a thousand "comments" regarding this topic. Personally, the lake that I fish the most, I catch more fish on the inner part of the swing, the shallower part. I normally do fish both parts.
  19. In MLF, the body hold that they penalize for is holding the bass against the body of the fisherman as he is securing the bass.
  20. "One man's junk is another man's treasure"
  21. I love my Crucial 7' MF which is more like a MH. Have two Clarus 6'-6" MF that are like MF. They have about 15 years on them, all heavily fished. All have been good rods.
  22. Good fishing. Always a good read. Congratulations on making the Nationals
  23. Ok, recognizing that this is a dumb question, how does anyone know the boat has been in other waters? Not that I would lie. Just wondering.
