  1. The ONLY people I tell about a specific spot are people I fish with and know won't run their mouth. I really only fish with one other person and they know just as well as I do that "secret spots'' are incredibly rare and pretty much extinct this day in age. When people ask where I caught a fish I just say "private pond". Give somebody an inch, and they will take a mile every single time.
  2. Yeah the Braves have been playing great! I love that they're trying to play spoiler now. Not as good as making the playoffs, but if we can stifle the Mets' playoff hopes I'll be content considering we're in rebuild mode.
  3. I knew the Sox would finish strong. All it took was for David Price to turn things around. Hanley has been absolutely tearing the cover off the ball, and he has quietly put together a fantastic season. He would get some MVP votes if the Sox lineup didn't already contain Ortiz, Betts, Bogaerts and JBJ. What a dynamic offense that lineup is. They aren't 1-dimensional like other great offensive teams (Toronto, Baltimore). The sox have a potent combination of speed, average, power, youth and vets. How about Sanchez, the rookie from NY? Already at 19 home runs! I know he has only played like 40 games but it's going to be really hard to vote against him for ROY. I think if the Yankess secured a wild-card spot, the would lock in Sanchez for ROY.
  4. I fish waters with lots of northern pike and pickerel, trees and rocks. I've had some expensive days.
  5. I think it would have to be @Mainebass1984. That dude consistently catches some huge north country bass and I feel like he eventually will catch a state record. I would love to learn a thing or two from him.
  6. You may be addicted to bass fishing if you're checking the weather forecast in the middle of February (for us northerners) as if you'd be able to toss a line in. You may be addicted to bass fishing if you spend your time when not actually fishing by: A. buying fishing gear B. Organizing fishing gear C. Planning the next fishing trip D. Scouting a new location I'd venture to say that my fishing habit is more expensive than an 80s rocker's drug habit. Just not as self-detrimental.
  7. I've had bullfrogs go after my frog in the lilies before, but I have never actually hooked one.
  8. Got a really good one on a COLD morning in the Adirondack Mountains. Air temperature was 42°, very foggy and she crushed a Rapala Skitter Walk. Biggest of the year so far. This fish is responsible for the most aggressive, violent top-water strike I have ever witnessed. Caught, weighed, photographed and promptly released.
  9. Monofilament: Berkley Big Game or Trilene XL Braid: Power Pro Fluorocarbon: Yo-Zuri leader material
  10. I've had this exact scenario happen several times on one of the lakes I fish. A big school of bluegill at the surface, and I'll toss a weightless senko in the school and a bass will take it every time. I've caught both largemouth and smallmouth doing this.
  11. I have found Booyah pad crashers to have the softest and most collapsible bodies out of any frogs I have used. My hook-up ratio is considerably better with the Booyahs.
  12. I was night-fishing one time a couple years ago on a small pond and heard what sounded to be several coyotes yipping and barking directly on the other side. Too dark to see them, but they were definitely there. First time I ever heard a beaver smack his tail in the water it scared me half to death. I thought a Tyrannosaurus rex had just jumped in the lake.
  13. Nice fish! I would guess high 4s or low 5s.
  14. Haven't caught much weird stuff, but I can only imagine what I've gotten snagged on that was too heavy to bring in. Weirdest thing I have reeled in is a complete rod and reel combo. Looked like it was 50 years old. I released her unharmed and she quickly returned to the depths. Funny thing is, in the 10 minutes prior, I had landed two 30"+ northern pike. All three, rod/reel and both pike fought EXACTLY the same way. I was convinced I had another nice northern on while reeling in the combo.
  15. YCB Senko- 5" watermelon with black flakes.
  16. I've had to have words more than once with clueless, self-absorbed fools on the water. While I can't stand pleasure boaters and jet skiers, the poor etiquette displayed on the water is sadly usually by other fishermen. More times I can count I have had other boats pull within 10' of mine and just start flinging their bloody spinner bait right next to me, scaring away every fish under the sun like its no thing. Half the time they are taken-aback by me calling them out, and the other half of the time they act like they knew they were in the wrong. One thing I HATE is a crowded lake. And if that crowd is one of poor etiquette, that is when I start to get mouthy.
  17. Rapala Skitter Walk in "chrome"
  18. 15 mph is the cut-off for me. Anything above that and I'll usually spare myself the inevitable headache unless I'm going to a spot that offers some guaranteed wind protection.
  19. I immediately thought hard baits...good point. I have a lot of soft plastics that are Red Shad or Black Shad and like @MIbassyaker mentioned, they're all laminate.
  20. "Red" because the color, and "shad" because of the black dot that most species of shad/herring have on their cheek.
  21. I too would guess about 3.
  22. It would help if you elaborated on the "problems" you've had. I've you're having an issue with PowerPro, I'm not sure it will be any different with another braid.
