Mike From Sieberts Owes Me Money For A Chiro!
So it has been slow so far this year. This beautiful weather I figured the bass would be in. What happened next I did not expect. Who catches pike in a river this time of year. I toss a spinner from mike with a big bites baits watermelon coon tail trailer. Within minutes of my retrieve I got nailed. My Abu Garcia was bent in half begging for mercy. 40 mins later this almost 4 ft pike fighting the current was on the cement and my back was killing me! Three more bass over 3 lbs and two smaller carps all on mikes jigs and spinners. Thanks for the good equipment mike but dang man I'm sore. how can I post pics on here with windows phone?

Siebert Outdoor....what Makes Them So Good?
Anyone hemming and hawing about pulling the trigger like I did for weeks knock it off fill up your cart and get that card out. I'm already running through combos I need. Wish I would have just ordered it all at once.

Siebert Outdoor....what Makes Them So Good?
Got mine yesterday. I wanted to fish them before commenting so I went right out. Absolutely amazing. Ive never looked forward to using new jigs. These look and fish amazing. I think having them custom made for you is a big added bonus rather than going to the store and buying what's available. And look wise it looks better than some 7.00-8.00 jigs I have and fishes just as well.

Siebert Bullet Weights

You Belong With Me
haha I know. Just saying. I tend to go out for a late dinner when I don't have the kids. So I'll run right to the lake still dressed up. Then go out to a nice spot for dinner with the wife. So you'll see me out fishing in 200.00 in clothes off the bank. Obviously if I get the kayak or go on a boat I'll change.
-
You Belong With Me
Half is an understatement btw. Just a saying
-
You Belong With Me
Hey now I fish after work with a long sleeve dress shirt, khakis, and dress shoes and out fish half the people on the bank in jeans, t-shirt and baseball cap.

Good Venison Jerkey
I'll take your word. His meats look awesome! Order going in now. Anyone who works with a lot of these meats is a winner in my book.

Good Venison Jerkey
I have searched all over and see plenty of venison jerkey for sales. Expensive of of course. But the wife and I love it. We devour our venison steaks and jerkey in a month or two. I see Wild bills makes some which I like their regular jerkey but she does not. So who makes the best venison jerkey? I see BPS has some but you get elk bison etc which I'm good with but I'd prefer to just buy bulk venison jerkey. Next year she's getting her license so we can take double but for now I'm tired of begging people to sell my some venison haha. I can't believe people don't like venison. I think it's one of the tastiest, more versatile meats right there with beef and pork if not better. Also just found a company who is selling wild boar sausage, duck sausage, bison sausage etc. I love gamey meats and am pumped price chopper is now selling them. The wild boar tastes almost the exact same as the hogs I took down in Florida. Very satisfied. That sausage with a little beer and brat spicy horse radish mustard mmm mmm mmm. But to get back on topic who sell the best commercial venison jerkey?

Fishing In The Rain?
Love fishing in the rain. It's usually just you out there. Very peaceful, relaxing. Especially if it's mid summer nice and warm. To me this is when the real fishing begins. Especially if it's a heavy passing storm. I've caught my biggest fish as soon as that cool summer rain comes down for 20-30 mins onto a really warm water. Seems like it's crack for fish. (Saying that reminds me The King of The Hill Episode lol)

Giving Up Your Rights To Fish.
Well technically they can only go based on days that it was legal to catch vs. whats in your fridge. Which a lot of panfish are upward of 50 per day. So not a big deal. However at say a 5 day bass limit and 5 days into the season if you have 100 filets in your fridge you are in trouble. But if people who are doing it illegally are smart enough to date the bags say a year old. It's a tough thing to prove. Truthfully people should respect the law. I never even keep the limit (except in a tournament) yet alone go over it. It's more of a darn it's 6 pm I'm hungry and I could go for some fish as I'm on the lake and catch a couple of keepers and decide they will be dinner. Or go for one of my "eat only what you catch/hunt" trips. At that point we bring some jerkey/slim jims and peanuts. Enough to last a few days and better get to work catching or we ration. Good training exercise for your body as well. Unless you are poor or live off the land I don't see why people would keep what they shouldn't. People who live off the land shouldn't be held to such limits.

Giving Up Your Rights To Fish.
By the way you are not in NY. NY pistol laws are far more strict. In florida you only have to be 21 and have a clean record to get a pistol.

Giving Up Your Rights To Fish.
See I was told because it's a pin fire and they still sell bullets for it at wal mart I would need one. From the judge.... Are your WW2 rifles or pistols? I really never wanted to risk getting it registered. So if you can provide me the law on this I'd like. I'd personally like it OFF my pistol permit.

Good News
All good advice. Just wanted to say happy birthday. You can tie a pretty basic knot honestly. Nothing too fancy. Learning how to walk the frog may take some learning. The right rod and reel helps as well. Preferably like a 7:1:1 reel, with a heavy rod with a thick braid 50-65lb seems to be general consensus. But isn't 100%.I got my first KVD Sexy Frog as well this year. I've used a lot of other frogs. Looking forward to trying it. The pro I talked to that was at BPS said he keeps a KVD Sexy Frog and Booyah PC on his boat all year and will fish the banks with it in tournaments even if it's the wrong time of year for it. He says if nothing else is working his KVD and Booyah are relentless all year. Haven't proven this for myself just his advice to me.

Giving Up Your Rights To Fish.
I agree this should remain on this section but that's up to the mods. I think it's an interesting topic. I'm friends with a lot of cops infact my future wife is one local Sherriff Deputy here in Montgomery County. So I know ALL too well dirty tactics used. She doesnt use them of course.... lol but I'm there for a lot of discussions. She is not up to date on fishing laws which is why I questioned another friend of mine who is an angler so he pays extra attention to the sportsman laws as well as his normal field of duty. But most cops couldn't tell me when I moved back from Florida if my civil war pistol (national arms company break top .38) needed to be registered or not due to age. (It does) but I pulled it out and asked all of them is this illegal not to have registered. Which I did not at the time. All of them shrugged and said no clue how you would even go about registering if you need to. I figured it out by taking of handle and finding a serial # went to a judge friend of mine for a quick pistol permit (not the hassle most of you have to go through lol) and got it and my other guns registered because in Florida it was a simple process compared to NY.

Water Temp?
I'd still like to figure out a good way to get river temps accurately for the nicer weather. Until the put the docks in I won't be able to check it. I do have much better areas to fish but this is just convenient for days I only have an hour to kill. Never been a river fisherman just lakes ponds and streams
-
Water Temp?
I have found a pool I was hoping id have some luck. But yes its the same conditions here. Really I was originally just bank fishing in the pool to see how they ran etc. The pools calm I can set a small crank in the same spot all day but as I sat there tying on twenty dif baits to get a feel for them I decided I wanted one fish. I did have one I didn't hook well on a shallow crank. I haven't seen any of the lakes clear yet but this is a new area to me so I haven't explored them all. I'm heading back to my home town this weekend hoping one of my normal lakes or ponds are open.

Water Temp?
May sound funny but I have even considered tossing in a good quality fish tank thermometer tied to my line to get a read haha. maybe even weighing diown one for a pool. I know these methods work but have never tried them in faster moving water. If they still work the same how long should it say in for an accurate read?

Water Temp?
Where I was before I always knew water temps and if I didn't bring my equipment I always knew because I had a local angler who ran our towns website and he updated water temps etc 2-3x a day. I'm now in an area I don't know. Looking for a reliable site etc where I can check water temp in the Mohawk river. All the sites I've been to don't give any temps for the 13317. I can't safely get down the water where I've been fishing so I can only guess the temp. I've had bad luck on this river and I think the temp plays into it. I keep testing out everything on this river. It's 0 visibility muddy. My brightest lures you can't see past 2-3" into the water so it is dark. I've tried jig fishing with dif colors and trailers. Especially craws in the rocks, many shallow crank baits, deep cranks, fishing swim baits against the current, even top waters frogs etc I wouldn't normally use this time a year just trying everything. I'm thinking the water may just still be too cold especially with the current. I try to fish a pool of slow moving water in the crease off two currents where the sun hits all day but still 0 luck. So any good place I can rely on for up to date water temps and also what would you try to fish in these conditions? At this point last year on my local familiar waters I had a ton of fish. This move has been hell for me and the fishing conditions aren't making it any better. I'm truly being tested.

Shore Fishing Rant ( Fishermans Garbage Left Behind)
I was fuming thinking of this thread today as I was testing some new lures etc today. Kids were hanging out eating take out and saw them toss a styrofoam take out container into the river. Unfortunately it's a 20 ft drop into a fast moving river so I couldn't toss them in and make them get it. I let them know how messed up it was they just blew me off like typical teenagers. So it took me three casts with a live target craw to hook the styrofoam and reeled it in and disposed of it. Thank god for those big sharp hooks I was a jerk as a teen but I respected nature and my fishing spots. They weren't fishing just sitting down there eating take out and smoking. Wish I knew who they were and who their parents were smh.

Giving Up Your Rights To Fish.
Right. Haha on a funny note my friend goes why? You don't do drugs. Do you need me to come get you out of this? haha. Had to forward him this link to let him know it was just in inquiry.

Best Lake In Your State
The Great Sacandaga Lake of course. However there is a ton of lakes in NY so to say I've fished them all would be a lie.

Giving Up Your Rights To Fish.
It makes total sense. I just got a text back from a local sheriff. He said yes they can search your vehicle, you give up that right but you don't give up the right to have other law enforcement or an attourney present. None of us are worried about this really. We are fishing not smuggling drugs haha. But they do have certain guidelines they must follow. It's not quite as leanant as say border patrol tearing apart our car. They have the right to look in reasonable places for animals. If you have a pistol for instance and you produce a pistol permit. They don't have the right to search glove boxes, and center consoles because in this instance they are looking for a deer, bear etc. So if they open up your center console claiming they are looking for a deer or it's meat? They abused protocol and if they find something small and illegal it's going to get thrown out. Their job was to look for an illegal item and even with fishing who is going to throw an extra fish or two in their glovebox? Again we're grasping at straws here, but we don't totally give up our rights and they won't be putting a knife to our car seats looking for fish. Basically just open your trunk, let me have a peak to make sure you don't have a cooler full of illegal fish. Still kind of crazy to know they have the right to take away some of our rights.

Mishandling Bass
One of the spillways I fish that I catch a ton on the fish tend to hit the concrete on the way up and and even if I try to set them on the wet towel they flop around before I can grab them and are covered with stones, dirt etc. Then as I unhook them they are touched by my hands. I think it's more of an issue in small fish than bigger fish. I notice the bigger fish tend to recover in an instance and I rarely see bigger dead fish on shore but the smaller fish tend to seem more dazed by it and I do see a lot of smaller dead fish on shore (under 7") Wether it's swallowing a hook, spending too much time out of water, losing slime etc it's part of our sport/hobby. It happens. But seriously most of us are hunters too. Why are we so worried about a fish dying (Rarely when we aren't eating them anyways) as opposed to my bullet exploding a grown bucks heart? Deer can be tamed, pet, hand fed, and are kind of cute when they aren't destroying our cars and trucks. But seriously.... It's part of our hobby/sport and if someone wants to get a good pic of their 11lb bass next to something for size comparison. So be it. We all pay for our license and do have the right to keep that fish, gut it, and eat it. A lot of people taking grass pics are doing just that from my experience. I have a problem with people bowfishing. Especially fish they don't plan to eat. I know a guy who takes out 10-12 carp every few days via bow. Then lets them rot for the birds. That, I have a problem with. I may be not native american but if I kill a fish it's going to be dinner. I've even had smaller sun fish swallow a hook I couldn't save and I gut them, wrap them in aluminum foil throw them on the grill with salt, pepper, butter and eat the 3-4 forkfuls out of them because I'm not going to kill something for fun. I'm a fisherman and I respect nature, and the sport.
