How Close Is Too Close?
I don't like to even fish in peoples sight. I was fishing a spillway with two friends a real hot spot from the shore. One of us was jigging the shallow rocks, another a floater in the middle level and I was fishing deep. He came to the other side of the spillway and he tossed out over my crank bait with his immediate snag. He goes o man my mistake loosen up your line I'll untangle it. So no problem figured he learned his lesson and would toss more into the lake there was plenty of room. Nope. Next time he snagged my body fishing middle same issue a snag. Then he decided he'd change up and go to a shallow crank bank and cast over my buddies line (5 casts three snags on our lines) so my buddy goes no worries loosen your line I'll untangle us this time. Reeled over his bait snipped his lure off the line and said you can either cast out in the deep and I'll give your lure back after we are done or you can come over now and get it and leave. He chose to cast deeper and then he came to get his lure from us after he got a lecture. I thought even though I would have given his lure back immediately that we gave him enough chances he's lucky to get his lure back at all. A lot of people are hot headed around here and I know a ton of guys who would have added that lure to their tackle box. but as a general rule you should be at least 75-100ft away in a boat imo. If you see me pulling out a fish every cast and its a wide enough area feel free to come share the wealth but don't keep crossing my lines.

What Caught Your Eye? Bps Spring Cat
Just curious if anything caught your eye that you haven't seen as or used. Ive never used one or even seen it but the bps shad chopper has peaked my curiosity? Anyone used one? Howd it work? Anything catch your eye? I think I was the last one to get my catalog. Planning a family trip to Utica bps on march 15th. My 4 year old is itching to fish coming off his first 100 plus fish year last year wants to use the catch and release pond. He's been fishing since he was almost 2. Kids a genius but loves to fish as well and has the patience to fish four hours with daddy. True blessing.

Eating Certain Game Fish
I agree pets is a pita. They kill more animals than they help but this isn't for this forum. I deal with reptiles and pets is uninformed and over dramatic. Had no idea they had their dirty fingers in fish too smh

Eating Certain Game Fish
Normally I catch and release but we do some fishing trips where we bring some protein. Jerkey/peanuts etc and spices. We eat what we catch for the week. So that's when I consume more fish and a couple of guys bring up .22's and if we're having bad luck catching fish we will substitute some small game. One year the weather was miserable the fish weren't biting on anything and the wild life stayed bedded down. Was kind of miserable so we ended up eating a ton of sunfish because we can always get those suckers to bite. Was only 13 at the time had a nice lmb on the line got it to the boat one of the guys went to net it and somehow dislodged the hook (why I now usually just snag them by hand). lol at that time though we would have eaten 10-15 SMB we were so hungry regardless of mercury levels. Hunger always preceeds the risk of mercury.

Eating Certain Game Fish
I know mercury is usually the cause. I just want to know why if anyone knew why Mercury levels were raised in these fish over the last year. Figured someone may have came across an article. At least trout and LMB aren't on that list yet. Guess only truly encon can answer why this was raised. They are supposed to do this study every year which to me says whatever the issue it has been in the last year. Also in NY only a select few grandfathers businesses can use coal. So if anything the mercury levels should be going down. Oh well I don't eat SMB in the winter so I guess if I eat a few extra in the warmer months it'll give my body time to ditch mercury in the winter haha.

Eating Certain Game Fish
So I picked up the new New York regulations guide. Typically in one lake I fish they have always said up until last year that any fish was safe to eat the state reccomended limit of 4 of each per month. This year they are saying smallies and walleye are 1 a month and not at all for kids under 15 and women under 50?! All of a sudden in one year? And only these two fish? The DEC gives very little info on why they did this. I know their diets are different etc but why can I eat 4 LMBs that are living 10 ft from the SMB and Walleye. My kids don't care for fish and the wife is picky and we probably won't be pregnant again so those aren't huge deals but why am I now only allowed to eat a handful of smallies a year safely? So I'm sure some of you have researched this before so let me know what you know. The good news is I moved about an hour away and one small lake near here is rated among the cleanest and safest lakes to eat out of in NYS. It also adheres to the most lax regulations on all of their fish. All trout open all year, LMB open all season and catch and release with lures all year, etc no strict rules, max limits on all fish, and no boats with motors allowed so really looking forward to camping/fishing and eating what I catch up there.

*** Lunker Frog
So I got mine in the mail today. Great look, good soft feel hooks expose easily. However.... Does anyone think the hooks could be sharper? Has anyone had hook up problems? The hooks are super thick but mine don't see very sharp. I'm really gonna have the lodge this sucker in the basses mouth. Compared to my other frogs this hook seems far inferior. Did I get a bum hook set? My friend ordered some say day as I did so waiting to see if his comes in the mail to compare. Also I set it up in my fish tank and it doesn't seem to quite float like the video portrayed. Kind of sits of center right side in the water more than the left. Maybe it'll give the fish the image that the frog is sick or injured. Could be a plus idk but it certainlly doesn't sit like the video showed. Anyone else get theres yet? Kinda thinking I should have went with the furbit first.

Thank you guys. I really do appreciate the words of encouragement. You guys get what I'm after and that's great. We all have to be passionate about something and as we get older the things we are passionate about may get smaller. We realize a lot of us wont be in the NFL, or MLB, probably aren't going to run Google or be the next Bill Gates. Some of us are just passionate about firing up the grill with the family on a Sunday. So if I can put two things I really love together and maybe make a couple of dollars on the side why not Thanks again. PS. I do plan on setting up social media outlets as well. Once the contract is finalized and I get the outline of the things I can do down to the letter I plan on doing them. I do have a lot of ins at local bait shops (which is why I've already secured 4 PO's just waiting to sign the contract before sending those back in) but I plan on getting my face out there to hundreds over the next year so having a way for them to realize you're not just some clown trying to resell them baits you bought off eBay and you truly are with the company you claim is a great start in breaking down barriers to guys you may be just coming in contact with.So once they are set up I will let you know and really I can't say it enough. Thanks again for your kind words.

I've Never Waited So Long For A Bait...
I read a study that predatory fish like bass will attack fish 3/4 of its size. Those pics proved it.

Also as far as the YMCA ballers. I bring to your attention all NBA players started there, And One, Harlem Globetrotters, European players. Hell all of the college players who may not get sponsors themselves but the universities made a ton off of them. They all started in a YMCA setting. I've also bought bball shoes as a kid that other people at the YMCA or gym used, same with basketballs. We are all walking billboards some of us just get paid for it.

lol I'm not going to report you. You're entitled to your oppinion. I got the sponsorship may be more work than I want to deal with for little return. I'm not even in it for the free stuff because most of my equipment currently is through R2S. I've actually already secured four PO's totalling a good deal of cash. I really only wanted a little reward for pushing a product I already use. I have my own reasons for doing this and it certainly isn't for welfare or a handout. I make plenty, I spend plenty, and really in the current line up I already have all of their products I honestly need for this season. If I can take some of the complaining out of what I spend on fishing from the wife then great. If it leads to bigger things even better. It's an experience and not all are good. I'll know down the line how it went. For now it's a short term deal that will provide me experience in another realm. My life is too short for all the things I truly want to do so I like crossing things off from time to time. At my age of 27 I've already been diagnosed with a possibly terminal illness depending on how I proceed and probably most likely a transplant donor if the rest doesnt work. It was something I really wanted to pursue and have. I hope I'm here to tell my grandkids about it in 40 years (my sons 4), and share my experience with others on if it's really worth it or not. As far as people not caring that's not true. I have dozens of people I fish with who buy lures on my reccomendation all the time. Sure the cocky guy fishing his tackle next to me who doesn't want to be bothered because he knows it all may not give a d**n. So far all the bait shops I've gone into loved the stuff and ordered, and my friends and fellow fisherman have been buying on my word for years.

High Mercury In Water?
Scary the healthiest protein for us to eat can be dangerous? All meats pose a threat but we make a big deal about mercury but still eat chicken which "can" contain salmonella, or beef with mad cow etc.

Old Fly Reels
Thanks a lot. Did some research there's definately some money here. Not big money but money none the least couple hundred worth and thats without looking up any of the old lures etc. Also did get a bamboo rod not in great shape though. I am flirting with the idea of learning theres a lot of prime fly fishing areas around here. I have a friend whos step mom runs a fly fishing shop local to me. She's been telling me to come in and talk to the experts since my early 20s swears I'll be hooked if I give it a try. I've read things here and there then the good ole fashion bass lure bug bites me and I go back and never pick the stuff up. Maybe I'll give it a shot this year though and if I do thanks again for the offer of being able to bug you about any questions I have. It's good to know theres some people I can fall back on, may help with the frustration of the initial learning curve.

Replacing Stock Hooks On New Lures
I never do it because of brand issues (on new hooks) but will do it if I feel the lure is good enough to target bigger fish and the hook size seems too small to be effective. Or if I had a lure break that I was just totally in love with the hooks and I have a lure I've had trouble with hook sets I'll see if the different hooks will be more effective.

Premium Hook Sale
Oh I'm sure it will. As a kid I used to fish crickets and caught a ton of pan fish and rainbows. Never caught bass with it but I am thinking about going up from the #10 that are on it for sure. The detail on it is really nice and I see it 6-9.00 online and she paid 1.50 at Wal Mart. I have just the place in mind to use it. The trout are stocked and a lot of different panfish are in there. They stock 4 different species of fish and about 8-10 native species in there as well. They mostly run small as they get bigger they move into the Lake, but it's a great place to bring the kids. Usually catch an assortment of panfish, rainbow and brook trout and a couple of smallies. Everyone is always guranteed to catch at least 6-7 fish per hour. Usually nothing to write home about but forgiving spot for them to learn to bank fish, not a lot of rocks where I put them and keeps them interested. Then I usually leave the wife with them towards the end and hop over to the spillway on the otherside into the lake and land a few lunkers to show off before we leave.
