  1. Thanks guys. I agree my old man and I will go out and fish with the best of them in Florida. We reeled in a lot of tournament winners. I'm not doing this for fame or fortune. I think the idea of having a big name sponser me could be fun if nothing else for awhile. I'm in tournaments wether I'm sponsered or not and you will still catch me out fishing for fun on a nightly basis. The last couple of years I've been fishing out of my comfort zone. I went from having my almost guranteed honey holes to bring the kayak new places (some times to no success others to nailing some big ones). Too be honest even though I've fished them my whole life bass fishing wasn't my forte' until recently. I just for some reason enjoy catching bass the most. I've reeled in Marlin which is an adrenline rush. But nothing beats the peacefulness of bass fishing. I also have an uncle who is relatively famous in the bass fishing community and I'm sure any of you New Yorkers may know him. He's been ranked amongst the top in the state multiple times. So I'm looking forward to being competitive against him as well. Another big reason I'm taking bass fishing more serious as of late. Honestly I could try and piggy tail his sponsors (And yes he does it for a living) he would put in a good word, but I've always worked for what I get. I've asked him more but his first sponsor was over 20 years ago and he was given stickers, patches and 3 lures probably not the standard any more. I have a phone interview set for tomorrow so I'll let you guys know more tomorrow. It's honestly sounding more like a salesman spot than sponsorship as I speak with them though.
  2. Check eBay I'm pretty sure I saw quite a few of what you're looking for. all under 10.00 shipped
  3. Thanks and I see they are sold out in a ton of places. Even on eBay most color are limited. I got Green Tea, Bull Frog, and King Toad. Supposed to be here before 22nd cant wait to have more frogs i'm still months away from using Also grabbed an optimum furbit and sexyish from snagproof on top of the dhalbergs, t-frog etc I already have. Spring better hurry up.
  4. Also those three bait shops who carry their product are almost the full 100 miles away from me. Closest being 88 miles.
  5. Well unfortunately kvd would never come to my area and local sales people sell more to the small shops than kvd does. This company is a great company that just has failed to tap my local market. Here's a stat for you. There's 650 known bait shops in 100 mile radius over ten in my small town alone. 3 bait shops carry this product. Its a total shame. So if I could give them even 5% of that market that's obviously worth something to them I just don't know what. This company I actually sold products from the company I worked for that just shut down in this area for expansion. This is initially how I got a leg in I was given an email of a gentleman to talk to which I did and here we are. I'm not asking anyone to argue what this company is looking for. They already have their version of kvd. In fact they have four huge pro fisherman "making" lures for them. But that isn't helping them tap into market places obviously. I'm just asking for advice from peoples past experience what is typical of entry level compensation from these companies as ive never been in this spot before.
  6. Oops forgot the link http://m.ebay.com/itm/131118672501
  7. Is this a good price on them? As big as I am on frog fishing how have I not seen this before now?
  8. I am both. I didn't meant to come across that I go out with a stick, rope and can of hand dug worms on a bent paperclip. The company im speaking with is happy with my fishing resume but have even stated they are very interested in the sales upside with me. That's the reason for this post is I know why im being considered. As a guy who makes close to six figures in sales I know im not expecting to be compensated to my sales ability they already pay people the same money for that. But I am excited to get in ground level with a company I love and possibly work up to that level hone my fishing skills and maybe take a shot at fishing at the highest level. But im smart enough to crawl before I walk. So im just curious what most entry level people get. Just knowing they have expressed their interest in my sales makes me wonder what I could expect? Honestly id push their product if I wasn't paid. In fact I do. But if im going to make this an almost full time passion I want to make sure it's worthwhile for most people. Seems like a lot of people are on the fence. Not just on this forum but in general.
  9. Before I start I want to say I have read dozens of threads on this forum and haven't really found my answer. I have seen people who get a % of sales but no true sponsorship. I reached out to a company I use a ton. I'm sponsored by local bait shops and bars/restaurants when I do compete which isn't a ton but this year I just recently got laid off, have enough saved and am going to work a lot on my buying/reselling and relax this year and do some more fishing before my spot opens back up. So ive had a few emails and they want to set up a phone interview this week so I may have my answer then. With a heavy background in sales and marketing I'm an asset to any company and to finally push a product I like the skies the limit. But what typically do sponsors do for you? Honestly the free products whatever is nice but I already have a tackle box full of their products so any more would just be extras. I have people who help pay my expenses but they are small businesses would love to take expenses off of them and still promote them. As it is I hardly ever pay 1/4 of my bill when I eat there or get discounts on all the bait and equipment I buy. So just wondering typically what big sponsors offer? Honestly I know they are just after my sales ability. I'm young, well dressed, well spoken and love to fish. Honestly I get laughed at a lot because I'll be out in dress clothes and dress shoes with a movado fishing in the rain and mud after work, but have a lot of friends who fish daily, and am always meeting more. I know they are investing in my word of mouth more so than my fishing ability. I just want yo make sure I know what I'm getting into with a bigger sponsor. Honestly from what I've read it may end up being something I'm not interested in. Will also share who the sponsor is once I get the yes or no. If they don't pick me up someone else may have a shot because they are looking.
  10. Ive been very lucky when it comes to contests. Never won anything of that size but have won my fair share.
  11. Yea I always talk the price down even if it was worth 1000 and he asked 800 id still head towards 500. Especially in this area people are hard up for cash and cash talks. However my wife liked the idea of the 18ft blow up boat with a little trolling motor. Because a lot of the little lakes around here dont allow anything but trolling motors however im down the road from the rivers and the current is strong so im positive id need a gas motor there so im on the fence. What do you guys think the above boat vs the 18 ft blow up that he has at like 320.00 in comparison. They will both cost me about the same. I can see the blow up being cheaper to maintain long run. Thoughts?
  12. Man this is what I was worried about everyone loves the ishs but that's not what I have haha. Well if they sell other quality frogs I don't see why this one at the same price point would be any worse. It does seem like it'll be easy to walk and I do like the belly color and yes I know that's what counts. I also like how the hooks get exposed when the plastic is snagged seems like it'll be easy to hook them and the hooks are super sharp. what about the craw? It looks like that'll be effective but the hooks are smaller which concerns me...but the craws smaller. So could make sense. I like where the like ties on. Think it'll take good jerking motions to get the tail to response but that should be fine since craw aren't exactly slow and bass should be used to that.
  13. This year I decided I'm going to fish a lot of artificial frogs, lizards and craws. So yesterday while in a small local bait shop I asked those who fished the following if they were to reccomend just two what would they be? They handed me the Snag Proof Pro Series T-Frog in Firetiger (said this frog has caugt him 100s of LMB and a Snag Proof origional soft craw. Now the craw looks really nice I can see doing some damage with that but the frog looks a bit rediculous like I could have bought a hollow frog from the dollar store and attached some hooks and been on my way haha. I see other people are reccomending other snag proof frogs but not this one in particular. Anyone ever use these and what do you think? He gave me the 2 for only 8.00 which seems fair. But I don't care if they're 25.00 if they work. I don't think it compares to the r2s dhalberg frog but it's a different color for a good price which is why I bought them. Let me know what you guys think. Did I get a steal or is it something I'll probably never use? I just wish there were no ice on the lake I'd figure it out for myself haha.
  14. I use a snuggie lol jk. Haven't joined that cult yet. I'm always warm so typically just a hoodie, undershirt, pants and shoes. Nothing special. It helps my body temp is a few degrees lower than the average person which I guess helps me adapt to cooler temps. I miss florida though. Most I ever had to do was put shirt and pants and a hoodie if it was raining. I miss year round fishing. Lived on a retention pond wasnt loaded with trophy fish but did have some fish and it helped me test out new lures and techniques. My dad lived on the banana river so id fish off his dock all year round or troll through the canals on his smaller boat or take out his huge triple engine fishing boat to the ocean on days i had 3+ hours to fish on top of travel time to the ocean. Did I mention I miss Florida? Don't miss the days when puffer fish were blowing up the plastic baits though. Getting those suckers off could be a pain.
  15. I like the wii fishing games and as a kid the handheld game shaped like a rod and reel where you'd feel it vibrate was hours of fun.
  16. I had about a 2-3k limit buy if this works I think with the addition of a trolling motor it'd be a good start and hive me extra money towards the pontoon or maybe buy a couple cheaper kayaks for the kids to go with us when we kayak
  17. Ive got kayaks, and we are buying a new pontoon boat this year but I'm looking for a cheap fishing boat. This is nothing fancy but do you guys think this is a good deal? Was looking to spend more but if this works I think this would be a good starter boat. http://utica.craigslist.org/boa/4332672648.html
  18. Buying a fishing boat, couple new rod and reel combos so a,couple grand.
  19. Beef jerkey wild bills smoked, slim jims, peanuts. Bring stuff high in protein in case I get stranded. Gatorade. And I've got a pizza place who delivers to my kayak or spillway etc
  20. Been a lot of good clearence items lately getting ready for a new season. Local herb phillipson has vc, rapala, etc all hard lures 2.99 plastics 1.99
  21. I was raised by my grandparents and my grandpa was done with fishing at that point so I was all self taught but then my dad at age 21 thought he finally wanted to get to know me so I moved to Florida to work for him and start fresh and he taught me a lot of salt water techniques. Alas that's about all that was good for I'm back in ny fishing fresh again.
  22. Do I think its crazy? A little but so is me spending 300.00 for xmen vs street fighter stand up arcade game when I can pay two dollars for it on snes. We all have our guilty pleasures. That being said it seems no matter the forum fishing, arcade, cars, motorcycle there's always a group of people who belittle the poster and make him feel like crap for posting. Some of you guys went way overboard on this poor guy. Not like he said you are a bunch of morons for spending that kind of cash. So in response maybe a hey, I can afford it and like the artwork etc behind it to each his own. And this may be an old topic but if you dont search just right you won't find it. Or if you're using a windows phone like me you can't even search the forum. I knew there were high priced antique lures but didn't know they were msrp'ing new lures for that kind of cash. Thanks op for bringing this niche market to my attention and I look forward to seeing this craftsmanship in person some day. And hell I make good money maybe I'll buy one for my man cave and slap it in my case of overpriced crap most of you wouldn't pay for haha
  23. I just went with flowers since I sprung for a 2k necklace for Xmas and almost done paying off her 6k engagement ring. Our dating anniversary is 4th of July so I'm proposing then. So a 50.00 vase of flowers and card will have to suffice and lunch and dinner of course. Needless to say she has no issues with me buying tackle lol
  24. For just tackle id say the bass pro but if food and beverages are important to you and you dont want to carry a cooler besides id go with the latter. I personally just use a second cooler and when kayak fishing use a floating cooler. Incase it gets knocked over or if I have a ton in the boat can just hang it over the side or back
  25. Last year I caught a ton on bass bustin baits pumpkin trolling in my kayak. One day I had three bass totaling 21 lbs. My four biggest bass last year were on those. This year I have loaded my box with different lizards. Got a pack in pumpkin color, got some from strike king in watermelon and they are salt impregnated. Seems like when skimmed across the top at a moderate pace the bass eat em up.
