  1. Same here. My biggest didn't come at night last year but my biggest numbers did. I got out of work at 5:30 was on the water by 6 and it was a wild mix of LMB, rainbow trout with a few panfish mixed in but come the end of the day I had landed 40+ fish. I could have had days that beat that but usually had kids or a woman with me so when we were hot they thought ok I caught enough fish lol sometimes cant win with em. They are either bored because they arent catching enough or satisfied because they caught "too many" <--- no such thing.
  2. Yeah the guy behind the counter said the 7's left and right handed were gone like that. The right handed 6's gone just as fast. Once they found out I was left handed they laughed and said how lucky I was.
  3. It's funny you bring this up. Met a couple pros at BPS this week. While discussing frogs they said the Strike King KVD frogs were very underrated because of this. Yet both of them said a KVD Strik King Frog trio was ALWAYS thrown during tournaments no matter what time of year. They honestly told me to throw almost all my other frogs away. Granted I had some they hadn't tried but they both seemed VERY serious about these frogs. They stated that something about the rattle on most days inside his sexy frogs from Strike King seemed to drive bass wild. Could be b/s, could be a sales pitch (yet neither had any strike king sponsors) or could be an inside tip but I certainly bought a couple more. Even though they said I was wasting my time using anything besides white/black on bottom I still bought some with green or yellow. While fishing is my main hobby im also a scratch golfer. While I use Adams woods/hybrid and callaway irons I also know Taylormade Drivers and wilson irons are beasts. So what we stick with doesn't mean other methods don't work.
  4. Thanks guys. I've got a big smile on my face and to be honest the real reason I'm so happy about this is the wife (truthfully fiance but I always call her the wife because I know shes the one) wanted to buy me a new frog rod/reel. I had the money but once I gave her the engagement ring she wanted to get me something special and asked me what a good price would be and tried to hand me 400.00... I said no babe thats too much (1. didnt want her to spend too much and 2. didnt want her to know what I really spend on my hobbies) so as she was with me I had to stay under my 200.00 limit and make the best value purchase and I kept telling her I got over a 300.00 deal and even got a couple new KVD Strike Kings frogs on sale so kept telling her almost a 400.00 deal. So she felt like she had spent 400.00 on me anyways and was incredibly happy. Money aside I feel great about the purchase, so does she and at the end of the day thats all that matters. I just wanted to see if I really got the best or close to deal/purchase for my "budget".
  5. Mine did. And they had a ton (20-25) of 5's lefts 6 6's 0 7's and that was at noon. Was very sad to hear there were no 7's. I checked ebay and I could throw in another 30-35.00 for a 7 I guess but I only wanted one frog reel this year.
  6. Also as for the longer rod I couldn't do it. The only one worth buying which was the first the said was 7'6 and 8'0 but was 169.99 and I didn't and couldnt spend that with the 99.99 reel. The main rod/reel combo im going for this year is almost 500.00 so for my frog combo 200.00 was my limit so thats why they moved me to this combo which the rod was their second choice I should throw that out there. This was their first reel regardless of my price range. They were showing me a bunch of 200.00-250.00 reels they said this put to shame. I mean yes they were pros but they were also a BPS for a reason so maybe sales was part of it but so far I am happy just wondering what you would pick for under 200.00 range.
  7. Just So for under 200.00 what would you have chosen? Just curious.
  8. He and another pro also stated they had compared the new and old pre-release and the only difference is honestly the color. I dont know if it's true but that's what was said. I dont care personally I got my Callaway Irons last year for 499.99 the new ones were 899.00 on the golf simulator there was literally 0 difference in my distance and feel. A new release every year isn't always better. Hell Kawasaki Ninja 500's were the same for what 20 years haha
  9. I got mine today. Only 6 left. I didn't even know about them honestly and a pro was there and we were b/s'ing about frog fishing and he asked how many curados I picked up today and I was like "huh?". So he immediately brought me over there. He had 3 and was showing me his (he has 2 right 1 left) no rights were left but Im left anyways. I cant wait to use it.
  10. What time share is that company etc?! That's a lot dif than the typical pay 200.00 a month or 300.00 a month for a time share. I'd be down for that all day everyday.
  11. I saw them today and jump roped about buying one but didn't... I still might...
  12. At least I know if you come up this way to fish I don't have to worry about you complaining we have been fishing "too long" or it's getting "too dark" if I plan to fish for the day and they keep biting (heck even if they dont and I want to keep fishing for that lunker) I hate when people complain once the sun starts to go down. My best fishing is between 5p-1a. I do well in the morning too but I'd say 75% of my fish are between that block. (7-12 being the most active)
  13. I went today found the prices to be hit or miss. Compared what I bought to *** and was either dead on or muchhhh cheaper than TW. So that's a plus. No time share people there today, wife and kids waited in line over 2 hrs to each catch one fish a piece lol never do that again. I spent 240.00 (30.00 on food items etc - anyone ever tried their batters etc the jerkey was good) and on the items I bought I could buy on TW I saved literally 100.00. A lot of that on the reel alone but that was thanks to me being left handed.
  14. Went to BPS Spring Classic sale today. While I was checking out the frogs a guy asked me what frogs I have been using or looking forward to use this year etc. Then asked what I was using rod/reel wise. Took me a minute to realize I was talking to a pro he just wasn't in jersey etc he was there with one of the pros that was there today for lessons etc. So after doing a lot of talking etc telling him what I was looking to spend on my new rod/reel combo he moved me on to a Shimano Curado 201g6 (they didn't have any 7's left and no right handed at all but good thing I'm left handed). And the the Abu Garcia Veritas 7'0". The total would have normally been $300.00 but today got the combo for 179.99 + tax. After checking tackle warehouse looks like I got an amazing deal. What does everyone think about this combo for a frog rod and reel. The pros there both thought it was a great combo for the 200.00 range. I'm more than happy myself and got some other really good deals. Just looking to see what yall think.
  15. Relaxation, the ability to teach my kids, having a hobby I know no matter how upset I am I'm just a tacklebox and rod and reel away from solice. And oh yea... The thrill! When that bass blows up that top water lure and your heart begins to thumb, or that trout takes your rod and bends it in half or even watching your son reel in a 1 lb blue gill like its a 8lb monster.
  16. I do a lot of night fishing but its honestly more for relaxation than fishing. Honestly at night I'm happy to eat some food after a long day of fishing with nothing more than jerkey to eat, a 6 pack, and just watching the water and stars. Not as for when I had a rough day fishing and need to catch something it depends on where I'm fishing. Bridge fishing is extremely good at night. You have those orange street lights lighting up the water you watch those big bass and wall eye chill. Swimbaits are great, spinners etc in those cases I don't mind using much brighter lures. If you've fish a bridge with lights you'll see them swarm to them. Also if they are close enough to the top silver top waters aren't bad. If I'm fishing banks of course smaller top water soft frogs are great. In the boat fishing where you know fish are depends on depth and where the fish are. Night fishing honestly is a curve ball for bass. But honestly some places I fish like ponds and smaller lakers that are still water a nightcrawler on a glow in the dark bobber I've caught dozens of bass/panfish/trout in those arents after dark. Big juicy active night crawlers are great in slow moving areas when you want to relax.
  17. Well this wasn't a bass story but last year my brother and I were fishing a local spillway. About once a month the carp stroll in and scare pretty much everything else out so we begin to jig fish the rocks on the bank etc. Well before we saw the carp because they were heading in one snagged a beautiful spoon he was using. He thought it was a rock and decided he couldn't free it and yanked and snapped the line. Two days later I was fishing the spillway. Carps were in again so I said screw it I'm going to catch a carp today. After about 30 mins of reeling in a wet boot I realized it had something snagged to the side of its mouth. I'll be damned it was 150% my brothers spoon because he had been bragging about how well it worked blah blah blah 2 days earlier and was so mad when he lost it. Haha took a pic of the carp sent it to him and that spoon still sits in my tackle box today as a bragging tool that he couldn't tell the difference between a rock and a d**n carp lol. Plus he had his biggest rod/reel combo he owns with 30lb test ( wouldnt personally run a spoon on that combo of all the set ups he has but all the bragging he was doing he wanted to show it off) and I worked that bad boy in with a cheap old shakespear spinner reel that I was using because it was raining with 15lb test.
  18. My small dog min pin x Lhaso Apso (looks like benji) goes with me. My lab/mastiff is too skittish and my great dane is wayyyy too big.
  19. Going to my first bass pro shop as a shopper tomorrow. They have the catch and release pond and my 4 yr old is itching to fish. Also have a pro going to be there tomorrow to talk so the 12 yr and old and myself are interested in that also have a couple of combos im interested in. Guess I'll judge for myself tomorrow. Can't believe people still do timeshare though such a rip off but lets not start on that debate lol. If you have a time share and love it. Good for you
  20. MMM deep fried gator tail beer battered and dipped in Louisianna hot sauce and the best. GATOR JERKY!!!!! Also have blended my share of gator/wildboar/venicine sausage. Amazing stuff.
  21. As not only a fisherman that has done some fishing in the south and lived there. But I also was a large scale reptile breeder. High end ball pythons, leopard geckos, bearded dragons, boas etc etc etc. had thousands. I know a lot of people who own American alligators and caimen crocs etc. I've handled my fair share of crocs and gators so they don't bother me. From 18" babies to helping sedate a 14' american alligator. If you know how to handle them and avoid them when fishing you're fine. They also can give you an indication if you're fishing in a good area if you know how they behave. However the size is up to you to believe. I've shown people 8 ft gators they believed had to be 12-13 ft lol. Gators just scare people so they tell you they are that big the same way they tell you they caught a fish "THIS BIG" haha. Truth is just mind your business and they will mind theirs. Just don't hop out of that boat.
  22. If I'm fishing an hour or two after work I'll go where I know I'll catch maybe one big guy and a mix of sunfish, trout, bass etc depending on which side I fish. I'm lucky enough to be near a spillway where the little lake is stocked with bass and trout and the lake is loaded. So I catch what I'm trying to there. If I go somewhere new I'm happy to catch what bites.
  23. I love bass. Evoo in the pan and tbsp of butter. Season with sea salt cracked pepper, parsley and cayenne pepper. Lightly brown, crisp on the edges, serve with an arugula and manderine salad with a line of pace chunky hot salsa or mrs renfros ghost pepper.
  24. mine is six years older and oh yea my high school math teacher ,. Was love at first site. She likes to fish but prefer to read and tan. Which I don't mind she works out BC she is now a cop and exercises. 6'0 rocking body so I don't mind when she adds a tan. We are two of a kind. I call her women, old lady etc and she's fine with it because I also call her the love of my life.
