  2. Liked those shirts but they dont make em for the kids and I wanted some matching family shirts.
  3. Depends on a lot. I rarely start with the same unless I'm kayakin for fun not fishing. If the wife and I are kayaking I just bring a little dock demon pole my son wanted and tie on a fake salamander and troll with it until something destroys it and I reel it in. Other than that I think about it. But something about a fake pumpkin colored lizard trolling around at kayak speed that makes em go nuts.
  4. I'm in a new area this year so my focus will be on learning to fish in bodies of water I'm not used to. I've done a lot of lake/pond/stream fishing but never any serious river fishing or fishing near locks etc. Had a little nice weather last year when I moved here so I threw a few different things before the ice hit but didn't catch anything. That coming off my productive year, so to end it in an area with no fish not even a nibble was a slap in the face. I drive by that body of water as it taunts me on a daily basis.
  5. This will be my first year with a dedicated frog set up. I went with a curado g 6 (wanted the 7) - Abu Garcia rod MH, as far as frogs Ive got around 25 new ones from river 2 sea Larry dhalberg, to ***, strike king kvd sexy frog, snag proofs, booyah etc etc etc Really going to invest the time to see what works best for me this year.
  6. No, but I for the first time in my life last fall have seen an eel (which I didn't know we had locally) chase after a gander of baby ducks. That was kinda cool. He didn't get them but was sweet watching it.
  7. I play a lot of fantasy sports but not fantasy fishing.
  8. I love the look of them and hope they work so I can have a cool looking frog from a great mind and more importantly one thats works great. I just look at so many other soft bodied frogs that just seem to be more effective. As high as the hook sets up I worry about the hook up ratio but we will see. The crawfish on the other looks like it would be impossible for it not to work. It did worry me when I saw that it can't be kept with other baits. I'll put it back in it's box but if I'm fishing heavy or a tourny and put it back in the box I'm worried about hook rust over time but from what I've heard the legs wont last long enough to worry about it and legs costing half the price of the frog I'd probably just replace the frog. I have a white one which tends to work great around here so we'll see.
  9. Most of the time like most of you guys its just me an mother nature. A bird singing, crickets chirping, frog croaking, fish jumping, and that sweet sound of my line flying into the water as I wrestle a big bass onto shore or a boat. BUT! On rare occassions on my kayak I will keep an ear bud in and listen to some music that soothes my soul when the lake is loud (rarely but it happens especially on the weekends) So I can tune out the other noise and focus on the lake. I'll listen to Moe., Phish, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, Johnny Cash, a vast majority. I don't really have one type of music I listen to though. I pretty much listen to everything those are just among my favorites. I fish to relax though so while on some days I may listen to rap or heavier rock it isn't meant for the lake, sorry. Not for me anyways.
  10. I'm sorry to post this if others already have but as I've said before I cant search on my particular windows phone. This isn't the most user friendly forum for my phone but I like the people and the site. I have been testing out a lot of my soft bodies frogs in my predator fish tank (no I don't let them bite but like to see what makes them the most excited) and this frog creates a TON of excitement. I put this one in a 150 gallon tank with the best frogs from spro, reaction strike, snag proof, strike king, lunker hunter etc and this with the lunker hunter generate the most "strikes" (they dont have mouths big enough to snag a hook - but again these arent bass just predatorial fish) But the River 2 Sea Larry Dhalberg hard bodied frog seems to be a monster. I've never used a hard body before and I like to believe this will be a hit. It sits well in the water, the design is great, Has anyone actually used it? Is this a bait to catch me or the fish?
  11. I got the G on sale at BPS but I was in the frog section BS'ing about frogs and saying I was buying a strict Frog rod/reel combo that day turns out he is a pro and was there with the pro giving fishing demonstrations that day. They both pushed me on the G and said they had tested the I and the difference was 99% color, and a slight SLIGHT change to design. This is only second hand information but even when I told them my limit was slightly more they still persuaded me on the G. I don't fish ant tournaments they do and they actually both had bought up the Right handed 7's that day and some of the 6's and even pulled them out of their stock to show me. If I fished right handed they were even willing to give me a 7 but I had to get a 6 since I'm left handed and bait casters aren't quite as easy to flip as spinner reels IMO. I haven't used either but comfort wise without hitting the water yet my G seems great easy to adjust etc if you can find the G on sale in the right ratio I'd say buy it, and I'm pretty adament about not giving it the thumbs up before I use it but these guys spent a lot of time pushing me towards the G when they could have pushed me to any other reel up to 250.00
  12. I go with the majority as well and btw I thought this post was not fish related haha. Looks like the typical 3.5-4lber I catch from my kayaks. However I agree with the other who say let her pick a weight. Let it be her lie and you swear to it. If she says 7 lbs you brag to all your friends that your girl caught herself a beautiful 7 lb bass, and you know for sure. Watch their jaws drop as you amp up her story and the big smile she has, the arm flying around your waist and the kiss she plants on you is worth letting her tell people she has matched or beat your personal best My wife and I are competitive though. We will be weighing all of our fish this year and even picked teams from the kids haha. We are a tall atheltic family and we compete seriously wether it's chess/golf/sorry/soduko/fishing etc but we strive to be better in everything we do.
  13. I don't know I've been looking on this laptop all day watching the Z-man webisodes and that def looks a lot bigger than their 4 lb'ers and any 4 lb'er I caught. Could be my screen vs all of yours. If that's the 8 lb I'd say 6 lb based on my laptop but it also depends on his height/weight (the angler not the fish) and distance from his body as a variable. Regardless if it's 3-4-5lbs and it tops the best fish he has ever had weighed or not good job! Beating our best is what keeps us fishing! We know we will likely never beat the ONE state/lake record but it's like golf. We won't beat Tiger Woods best but if we can beat John Moores' best (thats me) I had a great day! I'm buying myself some of my favorite beer, a big ass porter house and inviting friends over for some pictures and stories. No matter what good job and I believe you (since we aren't in a tournament together :-p) but seriously goood job man. Keep it up and keep using that swim bait (feel free to PM what you used if you dont want to share) haha
  14. To be honest bass fishing is what I prefer but if I have the kids with me I will fish for what is biting the best and around that area. When it comes to younger kids they just want a TON of fish. So I will fish for what's available. For me to fish alone it's because of the fight, that top water blow up. What other fish around here jumps 3 feet in air tries to throw my bait as I masterfully make sure it doesnt? Bass is the best catch in fresh water IMO. But I will fish for anything honestly.
  15. Haha my wife laughed at me when she read that.... So I'm not thinking she's down for that day trip. But if we don't have any open waters by the 10th I may have to do it.
  16. My favorite way to eat A LOT of species of fish.
  17. It opens up on most waters in this area in 10 days and I can't find a single spot without 12-20" of ice on it! Anyone know of any open waters for any fishing really bass/trout/panfish idc as long as I have room big enough to drop some bait in. Also want to do some practice casting on my new rod/reel before hitting tournaments this year. At this rate I won't be able to practice at all. I've driven all over from 13317 to 12134 zip codes and everywhere in between. I'm willing to drive about 60-90 minutes from Canajoharie NY (13317). I'd prefer a productive fishing spot but honestly I just wan't to do some practice fishing tye on some new lures I've gotten over the winter and see what I can do or if they needed to be adjusted etc. Thanks in advance.
  18. Thanks everyone. I think pp is going to be a no brainer. Will be adding to my reel Wednesday. DVT you are literally five minutes away. I'm new to Canjo and have no one to fish with that's less than 45 mins away we should do some fishing once this weather clears up. Will send you a pm
  19. Boy must be something in the water lol. Wife got me a 200.00 baitcaster combo. Lets hope everyone gets in on this action. Nice pick up.
  20. Well I tried to piggy back this topic not realizing the guy was looking for a light weight mono. So really it doesn't mesh in the topic. He just hadn't mentioned it in the origional post. I am asking for a 65lb because the pro I had been talking to in BPS says no matter what when he is fishing frogs he uses a 65 lb braid and rarely has to change it etc. I wish I had picked his brain more but I'm one of those people that always feels I have 3 questions to ask someone. Not only did he hand pick a rod and reel for me and explain why etc but he also gave me his 411 on frog fishing dos and donts which is going to be a huge part of my arsenal. Now most the time I won't be fishing heavy cover but there is a HUGE pond I fish that for about 50 feet from shore to the shore all you can see is lily pads, and underwater trees so I want to be ready for all situations. Plus the bass can get from the Sacandaga lake to this pond and it's private property but I have permission to fish it and when I can get through the pads I've caught a lot of 5+lb'ers. I usually kayak through that to the clearing and fish the edge of the pads but this year I plan to face the crap head on. I did have someone point me towards a green steel line which I've never used before but just curious what you all think.
  21. Deep crankin and I plan to PERFECT the top water fishing.
  22. Started my own topic once I Realized he was looking for 100% dif line haha.
  23. Also I'm not second guessing myself at all. I'm happy, she's happy. I haven't been able to put the combo down haha. At least once every few hours I'm pulling it out practicing my "Walking the frog". Envisioning that top water blow up..... Almost seems real... Almost.
  24. It's a medium. They didn't have any heavy left. It was certainly slim pickens yesterday for sale items.Place was packed. The line for the catch and release pond was over 2 hours. I'd never do that again. The kids were happy to catch a fish but the truth is all of them caught over 100 fish last year and the small fish they had in that pond were not worth their time. The fish weren't biting by the time they got to the front so I convinced them to open a different bait (they were using the orange balls they switched to white waxies) Fish started biting again (imagine that) I also had some berkley scent so when my four year was ready to go I cracked the seal and rubbed a little bit on because it got so bad they were just snagged the fish for the kids so kids were catching fish by their gills, tails etc so I made sure my son caught his the right way the way he has since he was two. No snagging bs that isn't really fishing. (not that catching fish in a barrell is either haha) The did get a free tackle trey and free picture with the fish etc so to make it more fun for them even though they have their own tackle boxes I add to all the time I opened up one of mine and let them pick out a couple of soft plastics and one older lure a piece so it was like they got to go shopping too.
  25. Left handed. Most my reels are right handed I just flip the rod over though because my whole life that's what I'm used to. I just got my first left handed reel which is a bait caster. It feels odd having it set up this way.
