  1. Totally agree with the paper and highlighter... But I would also check the webapp or phone app with navionics to make sure none of the depth lines changed or new stuff is uploaded in the freshest data.
  2. The best fishing app that I have seen is the Go Boating app. It has community edits where you can see where and when people have caught fish when they mark the spot and where under water cribs/ structure is located.
  3. Yes the Go Boating app is a separate app that doesn't require anything to use... Wayne is right that only gen 2 with go free or the new Gen 3 with built in wifi will work with the app.
  4. You could also use the navionics app with a vexilar t box and map the lake that way spending about 9 dollars for the app and 100 for the vexilar t box.
  5. If you are looking for a lowrance with both broadband and downscan you are going to need a unit with the HDI transducer. Also if you are looking for a gps sonar at a low price you might want to look at a vexilar t box unit and pair it with you phone or tablet with the navionics boating app and you can get a gps sonar for about 140.
  6. I have used it too its an awesome app. If you run lowrance try linking it with the go free and the sonarcharts live will be activated!
  7. You have to be able to save the Lowrance recorded sonarlog in GPX format for the Navionics server to be able to utilize the log.... If you have Go Free on your HDS unit and link it to your phone you can also do SonarCharts Live.
  8. I second Wayne. I use this smartphone for sonarcharts live because it automatically changes your phone/ iPad map to what is recorded when you map the area. Big deal when you are fishing big tournamnets
  9. They are great units, all the elite HDI units do the same just screen size changes unless you get a x unit which is only sonar. The 5 is an all round great size.
  10. Each unit needs it's own transducer if you tied them together with Nema2k it would only share waypoints, tracks, etc
  11. With the aqua view you can get the camera with the video output on the side and if you run lowrance touches you can view in the camera and view it on your lowrance screen with the av power cable
  12. Has anyone out there tried the new Navionics sonarcharts for Garmin? If you have I would like to hear from you to see how you like it. Does it looks similar to that of the other units or what?
  13. I am running a gem 3 9 and yes the image is much clearer the unit is faster and I would say it's a better unit overall, but I am still running a 7 touch on the now because I am upgrading slowly
  14. I agree with everyone above on the lowrance units but if you want to look at another angle. If you have a smartphone or tablet you can purchase a vexilar t box or t pod and download the Navionics app and for around 150 plus the app have a wifi sonar/ GPS with Navionics charts and freshest data
  15. I have used both and like both for different reason. If I were going to rely on a mapping chip for depth and contour lines I use the Navionics charts. Reason being they push new data into the charts every week so It constantly is being updated and with the new SonarLogging people all over are uploading there logs into the system to update the lakes quicker and making the contour lines more accurate. I use the insight Genesis more for bottom composition and vegetation. Also I like to be able to scroll back in my sonarlog and see where fish were located and what I missed on my sonar when fishing a lake
  16. To second what wayne said the T Pod vexilar wifi app is the only one I have used also but it works great off either the castable version and also the t Box version. And if you wanted to turn your phone or tablet into a gps fish finder you can pair it with the navionics app and get best of both worlds.
  17. Make sure once you buy the chip you go online register it and download the freshest data... This will make sure you have all the new data available up to the day you download it.... You also can go back and refresh the data anytime for a whole year by registering it.
  18. I caught word that Navionics is working on a chip for Garmin. PM me if you would like to find out more info on this and get a chip sent to you to demo it in your Garmin unit.
  19. With the SonarPhone you can also turn it into a chart plotter by downloading the navionics boating app. This will allow you to use the navionics app as a chart with using your phone gps for location and the vexilar sonarphone for fish finding and depth.
  20. Check eBay might find a deal on one there too.
  21. Navionics as far as I know has the best maps for pay but if there is a lake you want you cam record sonar logs upload it into their website driver and with in a week you can update your chart chip and either the lake will update using your logs or if there are no depths it will show the depths for the area you recorded and up loaded in there sonarcharts data view
  22. I would go onto the lowrance website and look at the diagrams given for each unit that you think might fit and that will show you the cut out size so you can best match it up.
  23. I second that... the lowrance factory store online is a great place to pick one up other than that I usually just search online for sales at either bass pro cabelas or west marine, etc.
  24. Thanks for the posts guys, I actually tried both out because there were things that I like about both!
  25. Has anyone out there tried either the Navionics sonarcharting of be lowrance insight genesis? And if so what did you like about that one over the other and why.
