Smallmouth dropshot
I use a 7'2" Shimano Cumara (now a 7'2" crucial) medium action extra fast tip. I also use a quantum smoke reel with Stren 100% fluoro 8lb. I was using 10lb because I was worried about breaking off but set your drag right and you will be good, I know guys fishing with 4-6lb and you just have to have your drag get right and be patient when reeling them in. For bait I use strike king perfect plastic in green pumpkin. For weights I used to use tear drop style but have switched to ball weights, They seem to hang up less for me. For hooks i use a red octopus hook from vmc can't remember size though. I use an invisaswivel for line twist which works great!

Hook size of Shadow rap
I just checked and it wasn't on there but thanks for the information. I am ordering a few now. To be honest I love this bait but the two I bought both cracked on the bottoms. Neither one of them where hit off rocks or bounced off the boat. The cracks are very some but allowed water in the bodies and the baits action no longer is there due to it filling with water. The bee bees also rusted and now have stuck together. But I am looking to switch out other jerk bait hooks but am looking to buy this bait again maybe give it another shot. I think with the feather tails it will make the bait move less in the water but have the same actions keeping it in the strike zone longer. Even if it doesn't fall nose down I am ok with a slow diving action. J

Swinging Jig Head
Thanks for the suggestion, I am leaning towards the SK and Stringease. I'm not a big fan of adding a slip ring to the other ones some of you guys have mentioned. I am also leaning toward 1/2oz and 3/4oz so having a tungsten weight does help for size which was mentioned! I guess I will have to wait for the fishing show. Bass is out of season anyways so I guess i can wait to buy tackle....

Swinging Jig Head
Hey everyone, I am looking for something like the Strike King Tour Grade Tungsten Swing Football Head. I like that you can change the hooks so with different baits you can change accordingly. For whatever reason I can seem to find them in Ontario (Canada) where I live and I looked at ordering them on live but with shipping I can't justify it. Is there another brand that makes something similar to this? Don't care if it is tungsten or not but I would like it to be painted and 1/2oz. This is what I am talking about for reference. http://www.basspro.com/%E2%80%8BStrike-King-Tour-Grade-Tungsten-Swinging-Football-Head/product/2240828/ Jeff

Lure Finish
I just didn't think it would happen this soon. I guess all it means are the hooks are sharp lol

Lure Finish
Hey! I just bought some Strike King Sexy Dawgs and I only had one timed on for the weekend. Fished Saturday for about 4-5 hours and then Sunday for about 2-4 hours. The finish on the lure is scratched from what I guess is normal use but where the hooks have been rubbing the finish (paint or whatever it is) is all gone. If this typical of all lure companies or do some have better finishes then others. I not trying to bash one lure company from another just wanted to know if one company is known for having a finish that last longer then others or the other way around. Jeff

Best Tackle Purchases Of 2015
Cabela's Fisherman series Jerkbaits and big 6" double jointed swim baits. Both at very reasonable prices and the Jerk baits work great! (I haven't tried the double jointed swim baits yet)

Halo Daylite
Hey everyone, I was looking at get a Halo Daylite rod 7 ft Medium for finesse worms and shake heads. I would like a 7'2 but they only make a 7 footer which I guess will do. My question is how do you like it and how do they hold up? Also the rod feels sensitive, is it as sensitive as it feels? Thanks, J

Do Small Jaws Travel In Packs?
Thanks, I was kinda thinking once we were to get one with a crankbait to follow it up with a finesse worm/drop shot or something that moves slower. We try to fish different lures but when they are hitting one thing it's hard to tell your parent or yourself to switch to something different lol

Do Small Jaws Travel In Packs?
Last year was my first year doing tournaments and it was a blast! I learned lots and made a bunch of mistake (broken rods, lost lures, sun burnt and fish lost) but all in all it just fuels myself and the guy I fish with to do better! One of the many things I hear that people say is true and false (looking for a little clarity, hopefully) is that small mouths will travel together. The main reason why I ask this is because I would said its about 50-50 in tournaments that we catch LM and SM. When we catch a SM (we usually cast to the bank as we haven't done much deep fishing) instead of just continuing down the bank should be stop/slow down and through a drop shot/finesse worm and work that area more. What I'm trying to get at is are we missing opportunity by just continuing down the back or are we right by just moving on because there won't be anymore there. Thanks for any help/tips, I look forwards to reading them! Jeff

Chubby Smallmouth
Those are some big fish! Side note to have a correct measurement don't you have to have the mouth closed?

Whats To Cold...
We were using Light to medium rods as we were going for perch first. and 1/8th with a small grub. and small crank bait/jerkbait
-
Whats To Cold...
I'm very aware that targeting species outside of season is illegal thats why were going for perch. Just more or less about water temps for bass as I have a fishing tournament in June and don't know how much high the water temps will be going.

Whats To Cold...
Hey everyone, I went fishing for the first time this year and it was a beautiful day out but the water was very cold, ranging from 39-45 degrees. I had no luck at all. I was using a drop shot, jerk bait, my buddy was using a crank bait really slow and his gf was using a Mr.twister . By law we can't keep any bass so we were going for perch and if we happen to catch a bass we just throw it back but we had no luck with anything. Not even a bite. What is to cold and when do fish start to move and get out of that dormant state. Jeff

Kvd Using A Crank Bait Gopro Footage
At 7:00 he is reeling in no backlash. He jerks it hard and you can hear the drag going off but it looks like he stops it with his thumb. You can some what hear his thumb on the line.
